No Gran Torino showed us Clint is never too old to be badass.

They died becasue the genre had no place left to go. It's been deconstructed, reconstructed and parodied dozens of times.

i know gran torino showed that clint is still badass, i said, baddass cowboy, and i suppose they made more westerns than they have any other genre of film to date, i think.

I agree, they have died in a sense. The only way they exist now is in the form of contemporary Westerns like No Country for Old Men and Gran Torino, which have the same structure but a different setting.

Exactly the imagery remains but the setting as a whole is gone.

A comic book movie, which is what's in right now. And that's part of the point. Westerns don't have a built in audience now, all major modern films set in the west are appealing a specific group and that groups isn't western fans. Unforgiven for example was targeted at Clint Eastwood fans. Coyboys and Aliens will be aimed at people who like alien flms over people who like cowboy films.

Only way a movie would be good, if it was perhaps John during Dutch's Gang. Just copying the game plot would be boring and would be another casualty of game movies.

As I said in the official thread, I would much rather see Daniel Day Lewis in this role, since Lewis is a certified badass who I think looks somewhat like Marston. That being said, I am sure Pitt will do fine. I just hope that Hollywood makes it a good movie for once. I mean, they actually have an amazing story from this game. Is it possible that they cannot fuck it up for once?
