'Tis a blue day indeed. For 6 months I have applied meticulous care. Surrounded it with fans to keep its exterior cool. Sat it atop a "heat dispersing" platform thingy I got at Wal-Mart. In a well ventilated area, dusted three times a week. Even rotated gaming between it and my PS3 so as not to overwork its little heart. Yet today as I prepared to tend my Viva Pinata garden, with a press of a button I became a victim, some may say a statistic. My 360 died. I never thought it would happen to me...

So here are my questions to anyone who might have some answers...

1) Has anyone seen any serious issues after recieving their 360 back from repair? Any performance degradation? Minor or major quirks, buggy gremlins or had their system just not seem like the box they had before?

2) Does anyone have any information on whether the RROD is an issue to the 360Elite? I know this question is a little broad. I currently own a Pro, and was thinking about upgrading to the Elite. As naive as it sounds, I have always just kind of assumed that the RROD was a plague to the Arcade and Pro models. I don't know anyone who owns the Elite, but if this(RROD) is an issue with THAT model as well I might as well just stay with my repaired PRO.

3) I plan on making my decision about what to do about my downed 'Box in the next day or so(I need time to mourn...and heal) If anyone can give me any things that should be addressed, or looked out for when going through the steps, should I get it repaired, I would TRULY appreciate it.

As always, thanks in advance to any and all who have time and two cents to share...
Keep on truckin'

mine broke a while bak and i got if fixed, but not by microsoft, by a guy i no how owns a little shop nearby and everythin is fine again now, its still working great (well if it could be called great in he first place)

im not sure about the elite as i dont have one, and i only no 1 friends who does but he hasnt had it long so it hasnt broken.

i no sometime it can takes a week or 2 for microsoft to do it so it can be bit annoying, esspecially if u are addicted to it like my friend (how has broken it somethin like 4 times wth a coling fan!) but check ur warrenty (im sure u have) if not have alook and see if u can get omeone to do it cheaper, alot of people do it now-a-days...

You're just asking for it.
I'm reporting it to prevent a flame war, just hope it gets locked before Indigo_Dingo or Aries_Split get here.

Mine also died a few weeks ago. It's currently in repair and I patiently await it's return.

as for the 360Elite, they also fall victim to this. I thought they would be exempt from it, but obviously not. My neighbour complained and constantly kept coming over because of it. I haven't heard anything about problems when your 360 comes back, it should be the same. Worst case senario, they'll just send you back a different one (fresh new scent included!).

Wait! Wait! Wait! This is legitimate! I've seen the burnings from atop the hill! I don't want ANY of that nonsense. Just some help. I swear that's all. I could give a damn less about the BS console fanboy crap. Really please! Christ, if it goes that route I'll shut it down myself!

Mine RROD'd about 5 months ago, it was fixed and returned in about 2 weeks (I was told roughly 4-5). All I have noticed is the fans seem a bit louder than they used to be and it gets much warmer after extended play, although it could just be my imagination.

I applied inversed psychology on my X360.
I made it clear to it that I expected it to break and that I didn`t care if it did.
I took no care of it whatsoever, played for extended amounts of time without reseting and put no cooling device nearby, not even a fan.
It never broke. And it`s a first generation X360. I bought it 2 weeks after release.
I guess I`m either a good console psychologist or a lucky guy.
I'm touching a lot of wood as I'm writing this, sitting at a wooden desk, with a wooden chair, and drinking in a wooden glass while chewing oak flavored gum.
Same but mine died about a month ago, pretty good for a release day console.

If anyone ever gets a new console try to go somewhere that sells a lot of them, they tend to get newer consoles in and they tend to have less problems.

Providing you bought it within the last 3 years, and the problem is the RROD, then repair is free as far as I'm aware. This is the case with my 360, which just decided to die one morning. It seems to be an eventuality with the console, it will break and there is nothing you can do.

As pertains to the topic, several friends of mine have received consoles back from Microsoft not repaired but replaced instead, therefore there were no bugs or quirks with their 360's as they were brand spanking new. The procedure of returning it to be fixed is fairly straight forward. You register the knackered device at xbox.com and they send UPS out to pick it up. I "securely packaged" my console in 6 layers of bubble wrap, and the whole process took roughly a week and a half.

Mine died about a month or so ago. Being located in england i got mine sent to somewhere in germany for repairs, but overall the proceedure was smooth and efficient and the console took about 2 weeks to ship back to me. From what i can tell the repair centre swapped out the motherboard and the dvd-rom drive, and the console still looks in very good condition (i havent opened it up to see if they installed the more modern board with extra heat sinks).

also if you are considering buying an elite because it might not break my advice is dont. i bought an elite console using the same logic however out of the two xbox consoles in my house mine was the one to break instead of my brothers which is a pro.

personally id go the repair route as its free for RRoD if your console is less than three years old. also if microsoft replace your console im told theyre obliged to put a note in the box of the new one telling you its a replacement? if not you could always record the serial number of your original box before you send it in.

I have no complaints about my Xbox upon return last Christmas... they did send me a refurbished model instead of working on my failed one, but the refurb actually runs a bit more quietly than my old one. I did find that my 120GB drive[sup]*[/sup] does run notably faster than the 20GB model from my (year-old) Pro did; I don't know if this'll be the same with the 60GB model or not.

Heck, I'd suggest sending it in; it's free, and for me it only took a week. Remember to detach your hard drive (and custom faceplate, if any) before sending it in though, just in case they do send you a replacement instead of holding your 'Box until it's repaired.

Edited to add: [sup]*[/sup]I bought the bigger drive separately; it did not come with the refurb. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

That sir IS THE best way to treat your X360. After my first one broke I decided no to worry anymore; I abuse the thing, playing for hours non-stop, no cooler system, I move it back and forth from my HDTV to my computer monitor, I only clean it when it's drowning in dust, etc. Let's see how long it lasts (I've had this one for about 8 months). The point is that if it's gonna break it will break, unless, of course, you get lucky like some have.

WaitWaitwait... Your supposed to clean it? And "cool?" it? Not play for 6s of hours in straight?

Thats All LIES! Ive had mine for a year and its only gotten slightly slowed in loading whats stored on the HDD.

Bottom Line, Treat it well and it shits on you, Treat it bad and it wants you to love it ^^.

There's really no point in babying the thing. 90% of the faults are caused simply by inherent flaws in the manufacturing process of consoles and there is very little you can do from an outside standpoint to prevent them.
