if it does it again, call them up.

mine RRODed last summer, but it was a slow thing, first it RRODed once, then within a week it did it twice, by the end of the third week, there was 7.10 chance of the RROD occuring, and after that it was gone. i sent it to repairs, and had it back inside of a week.

what i found to be strange was that my console was one of the first generations, back when they were difficult to get hold of, and it took it several years to get the RROD.
my friend got a standard console about the saqme time the Elite came out, and he'd got th RROD within a week, and the thing had died completely

How to stop RROD: Throw the 360 away and don't spend another dime on Microsoft's game business.
You are a person after my own heart. It's exactly what I did.

True, took me four replacements to figure that out, but still...
Considering Sony's backing out of the console market, and Nintendo's rather kid friendly gimmick based games that only really leaves you with the 360 for a comforting shoulder to lean on in the late hours at night, it's gentle hum filling the room as you boot it...

I mean, that is to say, it's the only console that offers a wide variety of titles to choose from and allows independent developers to produce games for.

Honestly I've had my 360 for almost three years now [albeit it is the Elite model and I did get the back of the unit fan that plugs into the power supply itself, not the one that take up a USB slot] and it hasn't died yet. And this is through four moves, and a deployment to Iraq where I first got it. So perhaps I just got a surprisingly sturdy model, or I just got what I paid for when I bought it to begin with. Other than two crashes ever, both that went away right after I restarted it, and both being almost a year apart and on two different games, I don't have any complaints about the Xbox 360. But if you don't like it you can go back to the Xbox or the PS2 [which was the former King of a Thousand Game Titles], or any of the other, older, cherished, but no longer produced for, consoles and enjoy one of them. You'd find in the long run every console has it's issues, not just the ones made by Microsoft.

So how do you stop the Red Ring of Death? You don't really. You pay for a decent console that's made decent, get the right kind of fan attachment for it, and take the best care for it you can. It'll fail sooner or later, as all things in this modern age are designed to do. But if you take good care of it, you'll still get plenty of miles out of it before then.
lol sony isn;t backing out of the console market you idiot.

I wish I didn't feel compelled to read these threads, they make me live in utter fear of being ring raped.

Then again maybe it's better to be prepared for the inevitable.

Mine died roughly six months after I got it, which was a few months before the Elite came out. Got an Elite on release day, transferred my saves etc onto it's hard drive, got the dead one replaced at the shop I bought it from and sold the replacement. No problems with the Elite so far, though in all honesty it hasn't even been plugged in since the start of January never mind played hard.

The Elites and the newer standard consoles were fitted with better heat sinks to stop the RROD, allegedly.

Hahaaa. Nice.

But yeah. RROD is inexcusable, and the way Microsoft have dealt with it shows how little they really care about their consumers.

Look at Nintendo. They had a problem, weak WiiMote wrist straps, and the WiiMote banging in to things. So they sent all Wii owners a new improved wrist strap, and a rubber WiiMote protective case. In the stores you would've payed £15.
And those things weren't even to protect the wiimote, it's to protect everything it might fly into because of gamers with butterfingers. They didn't need to do that at all; legally or even for PR really.

Though after this whole RROD thing nintendo might look at the 360 sales and think "hey we don't need to make our machines nigh indestructible for it to sell well, it's just got to hit shelves first." In fact when the next gen hits, I'm definitely not getting whatever comes out first. It would be a shame if nintendo did have a change of priorities like that. I still have a fully operational NYC launch NES; of course I have to blow into any cartrige I pop in it. In the Nintendo World Store they had a gameboy that was melted to slag from a missile blast from the first gulf war; it still works.

If only Nintendo made cars & cell phones.

if you have to talk to microsoft, ask for the supervidor and tell them this is your fifth xbox, you traded in all the other ones before and your going over to ps3. they'll be more sympathetic to your cause. maybe cry a little

"New, from Nintendo! The car that tickles and tells you a joke when you crash into it!"

That's a world I want to be a part of.

They actually already started making Nintendo cars, though I think they have to make them bigger but I'm an American.

What I like is how easy it is to find powerups in urban areas.

Bill Gates has a button on his desk, and when he presses it, random 360s will RROD. Why does he do this? Because he is sustained by QQing on internet forums across the world.

Recently, the hardware division of Microsoft found out about this button, and had it removed, thus the recent statement about how "The worst of the xBox hardware failures are behind us."
LMFAO. Yum, consumer's tears.

I get RRODs every now and then. I'll turn it off and on and if that doesn't work, slapping it works. I'm serious. I've had three of these.

I really don't like the way you've called it that. *shudder*

Never had a problem with my 360 and it gets moved a lot. Alone amongst my friends though.

I'm guessing the well ventilated area is just assumed.
