Well, I thought some of the stuff had been toned down, and things were getting back to normal, at least normal for this site. But, the giant pony picture that was posted in the thread for the newest installment of the Critical Miss comic says otherwise. The big thing that came out of the whole pony thing was that the fervent fans of the show haven't been all that great at being subtle and courteous when they bring their fandom out.Pinkamena said:Hi!
I was in the "Memes you hate" thread, and noticed a lot of people voted for My Little Pony. I'm just curious of why you hate it. I don't think there's much of a reason to, at least not on the escapist. We keep to ourselfes in the MLP group chat, and the only pony you get from us are our avatars. Otherwise we're like any other escapist user. And I don't see you hating on people with, let's say, TF2 avatars, even though there's a lot of people with that too.
The picture I was talking about is an example, because I find that I haven't found one post where a pony fan properly put their giant picture in spoiler tags so that it doesn't mess up the flow and size of the thread. Yeah other people do it to, the example being the funny troll picture near the beginning of this thread, but with the majority of the other fan bases of things, people put pictures in spoiler tags and are much more civil when someone says something about the thing they like.
You making this thread shows my point. So what if somebody makes a vote thread and the majority vote that they don't like the pony thing. Why is this so alarming that, that you have to make a whole thread about it. Of course you are free to do so, but it just comes off as desperate to have everybody like what you like.
On the avatars thing, I don't nearly see as many TF2 avatars as pony avatars. Plus what gets old is that so many pony fans have the same pony avatar and they copy of each other that it is hard to tell each person apart unless I pay close attention and quote the right name before I comment. With most people on this site, I can usually easily recognize if I have read comments from them before, because most have pretty unique avatars, but I have seen quite a few people sporting your avatar, and other pony avatars I have seen in this thread. While, I haven't seen quite that many TF2 avatars that are the same.
There are a few people that have similar Doctor Who avatars, but I would say about 90% or more that I have seen are unique. I strive to be unique with my avatar and not follow the group. I specifically picked out a section of one of the newer episodes cut it down in Windows Maker and used a gif making program to turn it into a animated gif. It really isn't hard at all, my first one I made was a Scrubs gif of the Janitor doing a jig:

It took about an hour of time to learn how to use Movie Maker, find a good gif making program, and learn how to use that. After that it took all of five minutes to make a unique avatar.

On uniqueness like that, I have maybe seen five or six new pony avatars since the craze started, but four have become spread around so that they aren't unique, and two have been replaced by user that seems to change his avatar almost every month if not every week, he probably knows who he is, he is an okay guy as well.
I don't watch the show, but it wouldn't become so grating on the Net if the fans actually came up with something new instead of posting and having the same stuff over and over again. But again, the overreacting and being offended by the slightest hint of somebody saying that they don't like the show or find the memes annoying (on the seeming, most of the fans), it isn't a surprise that a lot of people are annoyed by it all and vote that they hate the pony stuff.
So the next time you see stuff like that meme vote thread, just let it slide and continue in your fandom, oh and strive to be unique, because for a show that from what I have seen(the show is partly about being unique and being accepting of uniqueness), the majority of you aren't being very unique in your fandom. You pony fans all talk about being a part of the herd, well instead of totally being a part of the herd, stand out from it and be different, be unique.
