Regarding the new background colors on The Escapist

Hi!

I was pleasantly surprised when I read that we now had the ability to change the background color on the escapist. I've been missing the soothing darker background we had before the new design, so I quickly went to a news article to change the color.

I was dissapointed when I saw our options though... Beige, slightly darker beige, and washed out grayish purple. Sure, it's better than "blinding white" (currently using the dark beige option), but come on! Color is not a bad thing! I am glad that the tech team listened to our complaints, and I understand they still want to keep the "modern" look with white and blue, facebook-ish color scheme, but I really wish we had more options when it comes to background colors. The ones we can choose between now are just depressing. I'd love some dark blue or purple, for example. Anyone else with me on this?

I think Kross said that they are basically concentrating on the technical side of things at the moment regarding making the site run smoothly, but are still taking in ideas for the cosmetic side which can be submitted here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/contact/subject/redesign].

I think ideas for adding your own backgrounds and more colour choice have been submitted so far.

Heh, my initial reaction was the same. "We're able to choose our own colors now? Awesome!"
Then all these colors were just shades of grey. I love the idea, but really? I hope they're just testing it out and are going to add more colors soon. The current colors just makes the site look boring, honestly.

And I want pink, just 'cause.

Sounds like they got their priorities straight then. It's more important that the site runs good than looks good.

Honestly we should be greateful that they did consider given us a few options to change the background colour and here you are complaining about the available colours. (You will take what you have been given and you will like it!)

I'm using Beige, and it's looks so much better than that eye blinding white.

Though, i do think they should have more opinions for fonts though, like Comic Sans! [Trollface.jpg]

I either worded myself wrong, or you misunderstood me. I am very happy that they've given us options! I just wish we had more, as the ones we can choose between are rather dull.

Also on your profile/settings page there is a link called "Browsing Options" in the Profile Options box which allows you to change the background colour and font style and size.

On Topic:
I to was thrilled when I found out about the ability to change the background colour. I do wish that there was a slightly darker option though (I'm currently using the "Darker" option which puts the background at a light grey)

But at least I can browse the forums now without my eyes screaming in pain at the brightness of the original white background.

It's a good start, but I want to change the entire background, seeing as how I am using a widescreen monitor, I am confronted with huge whitish/grayish static bars on both sides, it's all too bright for me. Give me dark gray, black or even purple, I don't care, just get rid of this migraine inducing color scheme.

when i realized you can change the color of the background, i was thrilled

but when i realized it was only a change from white to white to white to white, i nearly threw my monitor out of the window

Turns out I'm using dark grey... I actually thought I? was still using white. Good idea, bad choice of colours. Throw some blue perhaps.
They should change the setting so it only affects the outer sections of the screen instead of the whole background though. It would be impossible to read any news if the background was completely blue.

Heh, I actually really like grey as a colour, so this suits me fine.


As has been said, I'd much prefer they continue working on the technical stuff. Colour schemes I can put up with, painfully slow loading (and occasionally pages not loading at all) I can't.

Hi! We are primarily working on performance and certain functionality issues currently, but we do have plans in the works for more options relating to the look of the site/user customization. I'm sorry for the delays, hopefully we'll have many quickly loading pretty Internets for you soon.

I like the grey, note that I didn't really mind the white either. Next step, custom background. That would be awesome, especially if everyone could use it. Keep up the good work !

Honestly, seeing the image for their twitter account change to a lighter color actually bothered me a bit.
