So I had my last day of school ever yesterday. You'd think I'd be over the moon but I'm not. I spent most of my day alone watching and hearing about everyone else having a great time. The thing that bugs me is that I know that I had I not changed schools two years ago I would've had a great day, in fact I would've had a great year. I try not to worry about the past but this is something that has really gotten to me.

So I have two questions

1) Ever made a decision that you've really ended up regretting?

2) How do you stop these mistakes bothering you?

Yeah I've made a bunch of really bad decisions... I won't go into them.

I stop it from bothering me because they're in the past and you can't change the past, just learn from your mistakes and keep going forward.

Don't dwell on things you've missed out on, look to the future and try not to make the same mistakes again.
It's all you can do.

I regret most of my decisions. I don't let it bother me, because otherwise I'd be constantly unhappy about everything. I guess it does bother me a little, but I'm easily distracted, and I just get over things after time. Even if I wanted to do a certain thing differently, there's no way I could go back in time and redo that thing, so I may as well forget about it in any way possible.

Oh god, do I regret ninety percent of what I do.

The trick is to learn from it and try not to make the same mistake again. I do TRY, alot. It does not always help, damnit.

I have some regrets. I keep them behind me and at the back of my mind in case a similar situation comes up in the future.

How did you finish school in October?

And yeah, there's plenty of things I regret - the biggest of which being not getting braces when they were offered to me years ago. They'd be off by now and I'd have perfect teeth.
Now I'll have to get them soon, and have them until the end of my first year of college.

1) Not really (See 2)

2) Well I usually try to see the good instead of the bad in things. There is usually something good that came out of a "mistake". Butterfly Effect and all that.

I often think in the terms of:
What if I had gone in another direction, but then I would never had met Person X, and later Person Y, or done Event Z.

I make many decisions I regret, mostly revolving around the decision not to do something.

To stop them bothering me, I just stop thinking about them. They've happened, move on.

I only regret things i havent done. From misstakes you learn. And they are in the past so why care about it.

i know it sounds easier than it is. I regularly cant sleep because something reminded me of something dumb i did or said years ago and thinking how it could have turned out differently. These Scenarios can be helpful too, cause "What if?" is about the most important question mankind invented, but you shouldnt take it too important.

or to put it into the words of a much wiser beeing than me

Adult Simba: I know what I have to do. But going back will mean facing my past. I've been running from it for so long.
[Rafiki hits Simba on the head with his stick]
Adult Simba: Ow! Jeez, what was that for?
Rafiki: It doesn't matter. It's in the past.
[laughs]
Adult Simba: Yeah, but it still hurts.
Rafiki: Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or... learn from it.

the only thing I can trully regret is doing nothing in several occasions. Slacking off studying, not asking someone out when there was a window of oppurtunity. That sort of thing.

getting over it is a combination of acceptence and learning from the mistake. Making the right choice in a similar situation is probably the best way to get over it.

if there is no bright side to the choice you made at least it's over now and new chances arrive

if your steal activly feeling the effects try to make the best of it. There is always a positive way to look at a situation and that makes it the best way to get it out of the way.

as tempting as it may seem, and by god I have done it, pondering doesn't help you for squat unless you do to try and learn from it.

Wait until you're my age. You'll have enough regrets to keep younger folks entertained for hours.

I live in Australia so we start late January and depending on what year level you're in end late October early December.

Who knew that Disney movies designed for kids could be so good at helping you deal with problems when you're older

I kind of regret having started drugs at the age of 15 and doing them everyday until i was 18. As a result, I could have done so much better in my GCSEs (I got Bs instead of my predicted As and A*s) and would have got 3 As in my A Levels instead of just one (the other two grades were, again, Bs...which is still very good). However, I have never looked back since because I had a fucking amazing time in those three years and tehy've made me into the person I am today. I'm in my final year at University, happy and am actually quite glad that I've experienced a different culture (ie: drug culture) to what i'm living in now. of course, I managed to get out of the downward spiral, unlike some people - and I'm not condoning drugs, I'm just saying that the experience has helped in forming my personality.

Granted, it's not something that I can use on my CV but it all gets filed away under "Life Experiences"

I reget many things. Mostly opening my big mouth. I had a small rep as the funny guy, but that didn't last when I ran out of jokes. I'd far rather be the quiet guy in the corner, but then I open my mouth and crap falls out. The same goes for typing.

You eventually wash your hands of it and forget all about it. Then again I guess it depends on what you regret doing (or not doing). Like I regret turning down the chance to run the bases in Turner Field when I was kid. Not really that big of a deal, so I got over it quick.

Just one regret. A drunken night with another guy while I was still completely unsure about my sexuality. He talked to my then friends who then knew I was gay long before I was ready to admit it to myself.
This doesn't really bother me any more though, it was certainly a regret at the time though. The positives only really came out when i did. When i accepted my sexuality it was easier for me to see what i'd done wrong. It also showed another thing for which i'm thankful, i guess. Those people who i thought were my friends really (there's no other word for it) bullied me once they knew. I became the butt of all jokes and they really discriminated against me. I'm glad i'm no longer friends with any of them.
So, yes. That's the one thing i think i can regret, but at the same time it helped me see who my true friends are and, in a way, lead to me being liberated from the quagmire of self-doubt i'd found myself in. I've just recently started coming out to family and friends and while the act of putting a spotlight on something that feels like a small part of my life is still slightly painful (hard to describe... for another day) I feel much better with myself, so i guess it's not a regret at all. More an experience.
