Actually, Bioshock has been quite good at making you care about the character by proxy, I find. You understand the relationship everyone else has with you, as the protagonist, and it's all the easier to understand his reactions to how others threat him because it's -you- they're saying things to, -you- Atlas-but-actually-Fontaine betrays, and -you- who decides how to treat the Little Sisters. The teeny bit of backstory they tack on doesn't detract from it, and helps to make sense of why you're there in the first place.Flamezdudes said:Wow. That looks absolutely astounding.
It could change a lot since it comes out in 2012, probably early 2012. But it looks brilliant, the gameplay, the graphics and the story looks interesting.
I'm quite glad that the Protagonist can speak, that means he can develop a relationship and make the story a lot better i think.
well, maybe because just that, I mean, it's different to the rest of FPS out thereDarthLurtz said:snip

I mean, 3 games in 4 years, they're really just milking the franchise for cash now.
The gameplay is stale, no real innovation. Basically left click to shoot, right click to shot magic.
You have to painstakingly switch weapons to melee someone beating down on you, and to heal, you have to go around smashing trashcans that people have been throwing unopened packets of potato chips in.
There is no real protagonist, just a voice actor grunting into a microphone, and the villains seem like they come from a bad comic book, yelling their motivations while they proclaim victory over a random guy they found.
(Actually I enjoy Bioshock, just felt I should take some of the things I've heard about Halo recently and turn it around onto a game the Escapist seems to love a lot more.
Well, there's a lot of hate being piled on Halo right now, due to Reach being awesome and selling a lot, so I decided to take a game that receives almost universal acclaim here, and see if I could make it sound "bland and generic."MarsProbe said:DarthLurtz said:I don't really understand how Bioshock is anything special.

I'm sorry, but you call three games in 4 years (or 5 by the time Infinite comes out more likely) "milking it"? Considering the second game wasn't even conjured up by the same developer as the first, I'd say that's pretty good going.
Also, playing Bioshock 2 recently made me realise how much I had been spoiled by some the trappings of modern shooters, predominatly regenerating health. it's amazing how much more challenging a game can be when you can't just hide round a corner until you health is resotred before re-entering the fray.
Your last paragraph confuses me. You like Bioshock, but you're deciding to pick it apart because....it seems to be a popular game among escapist members? Or is there some other reason?
as far as I know, basing on my own nerd mind, each "power" like the Murder of Crows comes with it's own "recombination juice", instead of using a single base and adding extra abilities (ie, plasmids wouldnt work if there was no adam in the body first)SmilingKitsune said:Looks great, though I wonder how they're using plasmids (or whaterver they're calling the genetic powers this time) if they haven't got Adam.
