Haven't looked hard enough,

Its looking good, but still got at least a whole year to wait, so I'll just hold of on the hype for now.

Wow. That looks absolutely astounding.

It could change a lot since it comes out in 2012, probably early 2012. But it looks brilliant, the gameplay, the graphics and the story looks interesting.

I'm quite glad that the Protagonist can speak, that means he can develop a relationship and make the story a lot better i think.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
it looks cool but thats definatly a mock up, like the early halo 2 footage, unless the game is gonna be massively scripted, there are just too many variables with that footage, although I will bet some parts of it will be incorporated into the real game

Actually, Bioshock has been quite good at making you care about the character by proxy, I find. You understand the relationship everyone else has with you, as the protagonist, and it's all the easier to understand his reactions to how others threat him because it's -you- they're saying things to, -you- Atlas-but-actually-Fontaine betrays, and -you- who decides how to treat the Little Sisters. The teeny bit of backstory they tack on doesn't detract from it, and helps to make sense of why you're there in the first place.

something I already love about this game (besides the disturbingly hot girl in blue dress) is the main character's personality and how he interacts with the world and the girl

remind me so much of Cortez from TimeSplitters 3 ^-^

I don't really understand how Bioshock is anything special.

I mean, 3 games in 4 years, they're really just milking the franchise for cash now.

The gameplay is stale, no real innovation. Basically left click to shoot, right click to shot magic.

You have to painstakingly switch weapons to melee someone beating down on you, and to heal, you have to go around smashing trashcans that people have been throwing unopened packets of potato chips in.

There is no real protagonist, just a voice actor grunting into a microphone, and the villains seem like they come from a bad comic book, yelling their motivations while they proclaim victory over a random guy they found.

(Actually I enjoy Bioshock, just felt I should take some of the things I've heard about Halo recently and turn it around onto a game the Escapist seems to love a lot more.

I'm sorry, but you call three games in 4 years (or 5 by the time Infinite comes out more likely) "milking it"? Considering the second game wasn't even conjured up by the same developer as the first, I'd say that's pretty good going.

Also, playing Bioshock 2 recently made me realise how much I had been spoiled by some the trappings of modern shooters, predominatly regenerating health. it's amazing how much more challenging a game can be when you can't just hide round a corner until you health is resotred before re-entering the fray.

Your last paragraph confuses me. You like Bioshock, but you're deciding to pick it apart because....it seems to be a popular game among escapist members? Or is there some other reason?

Well, there's a lot of hate being piled on Halo right now, due to Reach being awesome and selling a lot, so I decided to take a game that receives almost universal acclaim here, and see if I could make it sound "bland and generic."

Also, the milking it claim comes from people doing the same to Halo, which has had 5 games in 10 years, and one from a different developer.

I was hoping this thread would increase and more people would see this and realize the hypocrisy, but...

well, uh, considering it has been put up as news now, I know this thread will no longer walk and everybody will post in that other thread, so maybe lock this one up?

It's definitely heavily scripted but it still looks great. Even in the sky it keeps that familiar fallen paradise theme.

Looks great, though I wonder how they're using plasmids (or whaterver they're calling the genetic powers this time) if they haven't got Adam.

I'm just going to repost what I said in the news thread;

Can someone explain to me why everyone thinks this looks so good?

I mean, at first I thought it was cool. The character is just slowly walking through the town lying in ruin. You see a few people who are clearly broken mentally, but unlike in Bioshock they don't instantly try and tear your face off. It really creates a good atmosphere.

Then you pick up the gun, and the game does a U-turn. It goes from unnerving to over-the-top goofiness. Suddenly the entire populace is trying to kill you. A guy starts firing mortars at you and is destroying the city in the process (what possible purpose were these mortar launchers supposed to serve?). Then you slide through the sky in a ridiculous scene complete with gratuitous slow-mo (LOOK HOW COOL THIS IS). In the end, Big Daddy batman shows up and hopefully kidnapped your spunky sidekick, since AI controlled "companions" can go die in a fire. She may have done fine in that video, but that's because you were running through one big scripted event by the look of things.

I just don't get what is so great about this. It had a good setup, and I was really interested in seeing where they were going to go with it. But the very second you touched a gun the whole thing devolved into insanity. I really want to like this game, but each time I see something I might like it is ruined.

as far as I know, basing on my own nerd mind, each "power" like the Murder of Crows comes with it's own "recombination juice", instead of using a single base and adding extra abilities (ie, plasmids wouldnt work if there was no adam in the body first)

but dont quote me on that one there, I'm just, as I said, exposing my own nerdyness
