In the Commonwealth Saga novels by Peter Hamilton people have the option to rejuvenate their bodies back to their early twenties, allowing them to another life. this process can be repeated over and over; effectively making the person immortal.
Memory crystals (sort of like back up storage) and clone bodies can also be used to ensure that nobody dies a permanent death. memories can be edited at each rejuvenation, allowing you to forget bad memories if you wish.
Pros:
1. You effectively live for ever
2. can do anything (legal) you want, no threat of permanent death
3. you can amass a fortune over the years
4. you can get married/raise a family as many time as you want
5. you have several lifetimes worth of experience and confidence
Cons:
1. rejuvenation is incredibly painful, you spend 15+ months in agony as your body undergoes the treatment. And cloning is even worse.
2. life may become routine/boring as you have done everything you can think of
3. love becomes temporary, marriages usually only last a few decades as people get bored and move on
So, would you live forever at a slower pace? or live one lifetime in the fast lane?
Me, I'd probably live a few lifetimes, see how things progress around me. Though I would have to completely change my life at each rejuvenation; new job, new home, etc. I would hope love would be permanent though.
