For people nowadays it's pretty simple. If they don't recognize this sound

then they're too young for you

Never in a million years did I think I'd have to suffer that noise again.
There is a special place in hell for people like you. Right next to telemarketers and Lexus dealers.

Reading this thread made me realize that if you round off a few months here or there, the half age + 7 rule applies perfectly to me and the girl I'm teetering on the edge of being involved with. Weird.

So... that, I guess...

I don't really have a good way to reference.

As a senior in High School dating a freshman practically makes you pedophile (That's a 3 year age difference in case you're to lazy to count)

Meanwhile my parents are about 10 years apart age wise.

So...

Who the fuck cares? If you like them THAT much, fuck what everyone else thinks.

I think as long as it's legal, it's fine.

You can't pick who you fall in love with, and shame on people who think they have the right to tell others who they can and can't date.
Huh?

This is confusing to me. At first you say Love is fine as long as it's legal but then go on to say people can't choose who they love, and people should feel shamed for telling others who the can and can't date? Why is the Arbitrary legal age correct? Why is 18 more Correct than 21? Or more correct than 16?

And what about Pedophiles? What about A 34 year old man dating a 16 year old? should they fuck what everyone else thinks? In the name of love?

If she was raised that stupid then sure.

But otherwise use common sense, do you really think I was referring to pedophile cases?

I've heard about how half your age plus sever years is fine (as long as it comes within the age of consent), but I don't really follow it. Overall, I don't care as long as the pair like one another, but I will probably still be creeped out if there's a very noticeable age difference.

I guess it just depends on what age the people are and what the age gap is.

Not sure, my parents have a difference of 13 and a half years between them and have been happily married for years, so I assumed that that was normal. I must admit I would find a 30+ year difference odd, but I wouldn't say there was anything wrong with it.

I generally think the half of someone's age + 7 works well in most situations. But I think its fine if two people of any age truely love each other, their age gap shouldn't matter (as long as we are staying away from pedophillia of course).
I feel like I'm forgetting to say something, but I'm not sure what...

I don't think it matters what the age gap is.

As long as they like each other and all that jazz, age doesn't and shouldn't matter.

Personally, this is one of those questions where there is no right answer. People are attracted to different things, some people fall in love with those much older and those much younger than them, some can make it work, some can't. My only issue is the power dynamic (though age isn't the only thing that can cause it) which may lead to the relationship becoming unequal. Instead of a relationship between two people who love and respect each other, we have a relationship where one person (man or woman) is taking advantage of the other.

Basically: if someone falls in love with someone else (regardless of age, looks, gender, etc) and they respect them as an individual? I don't have a problem with it. If the only reason they are dating is because of age? Midlife crisis, pedophilia, whatever, then I have an issue.

doesnt matter to me, as long i like the person and i'm attracted to em. obviously it's most likely this will be the case with someone close to my age. i'd say about 10 years older to 4 years younger (because i'm pretty close to 18)

if i was 30 than any thing from 18~40 would work for me lol xD
(though im sure i would probably hate an 18 year old girl at that point)

When I was 18 I had a relationship with a 35 year old woman. We both knew that was all for fun and we never had any kind of feelings for each other, so when it fell apart no one was hurt and everything was fine. I still see her from time to time and we're good friends. So if it's legal and both parties understand that it could easily end badly I say go for it.

EDIT: She was not married, by the way.

I'd say 5 years is fine (as long as it's legal).
Any number between that and 10 at push if you're both older than 40.
More than that is ridiculous in my opinion but I guess if you fall in love you fall in love.

Numbers to back it up:

A 24 year old can be with a 19 year old or a 29 year old.

A 32 year old can be with a 27 or 37 year old.

A 55 year old can be with a 45 or 65 year old.

It's not always about the individuals involved, though. It's a bit selfish to believe that. There are SO many more people affected by large age gaps. Parents and resulting children especially.

If the relationship works (and isn't illegal) then... whatever. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'd be grossed out if I saw an 80 year old man kissing a 20 year old girl. But then again, if I saw anyone kissing in public I'd be grossed out. Unless it was two hot gay guys, but that's a...

I SHALL END THERE (EDIT)

Assuming both parties are at least 18, five years older or younger is fine. After that, I don't know what you would talk about and you might be in very different places in your lives.

half your age + 7 is a decent enough guesstimate to follow, but i think after 21 it basically becomes free game, if you love each other and all that, then awesome, hest of luck.

granted, their are problems with being different ages (especially when you get older) but it works all the time, so don't see any point to really frown upon it.

(although sometimes it's weird...was hit on by a lady who was my aunt/uncles age, thought about it later and it was a little gross/creepy. still, what a cougar...)
