Relatively minor things we want on NX

The "NX must and musn'ts" topic has been done to death recently, especulating about specs, backwards compatibility, cartridges viability, launch titles and how many screens the controller is going to have, etc. But here let's talk about the things people are not talking about: details, minor things, the ones not at the top of the priorites list, but would be very much appreciated with the new console.

Online store: Unlike the 3DS eshop who kept ALL of the DSiware games, the Wii U eshop did not maintain the WiiWare's library and althought it was fairly limited, there were still a lot of good games that were possible to get there such as Cave Story, the Konami ReBirth series (that include Castlevania, Contra and Gradius), Tales of Monkey Island series, etc. They can still be bought and played on the Wii mode of the Wii U, but that's way more work than it needed to be. So online backwards compatibility is something to keep in mind.

Multiple control support: So yeah, Smash and Super Mario 3D World and a lot of Wii U games connect with multiple kinds of controls, not only the GamePad and the Pro Controller, but also the Classic Controller, the WiiMote (w/ and wo/ Nunchuk) and the GameCube adapter, so I think they should keep those options would be viable if we already had one of those controllers, but do not want to buy new ones.

A new/improved social network: If you have a Wii U or 3DS, you probably know about the Miiverse, its all the features of Facebook, with the strictness of a forum and the usefulness of an AOL messenger. I think it's the "30 comments a day" limit thing that kinda kills it, I know the moderators must keep their mental sanity, but they could be a little more lax, especially since Swapnote and Pictochat are no longer a thing.

A new "New Play" series: During the Wii era, Nintnedo decided to re-launch select GameCube titles to work with the WiiMote + Nunchuk, with varying results, I think that some Wii and U games could use a little treatment to adapt to whatever new controller they come up with.

Do something about the Wii brand: I'm not talking about the name of the console, I'm talking about the series of games that showcase the features of the Wii (Wii Sports => the WiiMote, Wii Resort => Motion Plus, Play/Party/Motion => splitscreen multiplayer), hear me out, I think that among the millions of Wii Sports that went with Wii consoles, I think a decent fraction of them stuck with the casual audience and some will come back for more; and Nintendo even had plans for Wuhu Island, where it all takes place. Or they could just make another Nintendo Land, a tech demo collection for the new hardware. Whether you like it or not, expect to see the Miis back in whatever form they come in.

Achievements: Why not? I don't see their appeal, but a lot of people do and I think this could be a use for the My Nintendo thing.

Aesthetic: Since they're not trying to be X1 or PS4, might as well not be a black rectangle, at least be small.

Controller layout: Not sure about this one, give me your opinions on the GamePad and Pro Controller's button placement, the analog sticks above the D-pad and the action buttons.

That's all I could think of, do you think there is something minor the NX should or shouldn't do? Let's try to keep it minor and efficient, but not necessarely deal-breaking if they don't show up.

Region Free status is a must for me. Nintendo likes to censor their games or not include the Japanese voices so import support is imperative to these systems. Also, all other systems support it.

Minor things? Well...most of what comes to mind aren't minor things.

So uh...don't make it glossy I guess, cause that is a dust magnet.

A Metroid game that isn't bad or mediocre. Seriously, do that and I will buy the NX with an honest to god smile on my face

I think that's what My Nintendo is for, trying to unite social media and the Nintendo accounts.

I think you could had phrased the last argument a little better, "all other systems do it" should also apply for paid multiplayer, regardless Region locking is something that should stop. However even if the console was region free, they still could region lock the games themselves, like Atlus did with Persona 4 Arena. I think what we need is a eShop with access to all games since Nintendo is trying to be more digital, something the American and European branches could turn a blind eye to in regard to their politics about games.

Considering the GamePad and the Pro Controller and the Classic one have the proper button layout they should work with the new console, I don't see them making another besides the one that comes with the console. But yeah, I feel you, after my nieces chewed off the plastic covers of the WiiMotes, they gathered dust like there's no tomorrow.

So, what about an HD re-release of the 3D ones? You haven't ruled out that possibility, have you? And considering how much Zelda had its games re-released in the last years, I think AMR2 is not the last we will see of the second game.

And considering how Federation Force sets up the possibility of a sequel to prime (or even a prequel since it's between the first and second games, I think we are going to see Samus in the NX, but I doubt it's going to be aywhere near the launch.

Normal hardware, normal controller. Seriously Nintendo thats all you need to get the mass of gamers swinging back to your camp.

If you console can have CoD, Elder scrolls GTA etc plus Nintendos library thats a huge selling point over psbox.

I can second Achievements. When I first got the Wii U, ZombiU was the first game I booted up and I was a bit impressed to see "Accomplishments" on the menu. Then I realized they weren't being used all over the console and felt a twinge of disappointment. It's a minor thing but I can't help but like trophies or achievements (or trochievos if you want to sound like an ass...like me).

I'd also like to see the console go Region Free. On the Wii U, Japan got Fatal Frame and Ken's Rage 2 on disc which I would have loved to import. On the 3DS, Japan got physical copies of things like the Phoenix Wright Collection, River City Ransom and, Senran Kagura got physical editions. There are also games like Love Plus that I would have loved to have imported but couldn't due to region restrictions which didn't exist on the DS.

Don't make the console or controller glossy please.

Unify the eShop...well, allow me to buy everything on the NX eShop. I hate how the eShop/Virtual Console are different on the 3DS, Wii and Wii U.

You are dreaming if you want them to have a "normal" console, Nintendo gave people the option of a "normal" gaming experience back when they introduced the Nunchuk, the Retro Controller and the Pro Controller (easily, their best), which brings me to the next topic.

Yeah, I kinda gave up on companies like Bethesda or FromSoftware doing anything on Nintendo Hardware, even when the GameCube had the top specs of the generation, even when Wii was selling like water, even when the Wii U Gamepad showed them an interesting take on the pip-boy, they still refused, and I don't care if Nintendo has a "normal" console, they will still find a way to say no. That's why the Nintendo console-PC combo was the way to go some time ago.

The thing is, I don't see the point of Achievements, many nintendo games are made with the completionist mind, you either beat it to the end or you try to 100% it, putting achievements on top of that seems kind of redundant.

Yeah, I still fail to see the point in region-locking.

Yeah, but what if it's compatible with the previous controllers and you decide to keep the old ones?

This was my biggest problem with the Wii U (and that's kind of saying a lot), the 3DS eshop has all of the DSiware library, but the Wii U does not have the Wiiware titles, which means I have to use the Wii mode of the Wii U to buy and access them. I hope the next one gives us the option to transfer all of our purchases to the new console.

Steam in home streaming. There is no competition between Nintendo and people who own high end gaming pcs. It would be slick if I could play KSP on my couch with a touch screen from time to time. It's not like Nintendo competes with Steam anyways.
