I would have to go for some old favorites...

Star Trek: Birth of the Federation

This was one of my first, and still favorite 4X games. Never has surprising your friend with your (cloaked) fleet of 12 Romulan warbirds with all veteran captains been so much fun! I would LOVE to see an official re-make of this game!

Star Trek Supremacy is ok, but it's still far from finished!

My runner up would have to be Tribes 2. Anyone who has played that game will likely agree.

Pong. Imagine the EPIC-nes!
They did that on the Wii, it's in WiiPlay, I think it's called Laser Hocky
No, that's just air hockey with a make over, NOT pong.
You're right, the Pong remake was Wii Play's Ping Pong... or any of the thousands of tennis and ping pong games...

But seriously, Old games with updated graphics/engines... off the top of my head:
Final Fantasys V and VI.
F-22 Raptor. (a "shmup" game where you flew a realistic-looking F-22 using un-realistic weapons, like giant death lasers)
Blake Stone. (a DOOMlike rip-off and predecessor to 007's superspy-based elements)
Earthbound, and the entire Mother series. (they can't/won't localize the originals, why not just remake them?)
Pokemon. All of them. (the engine has needed a complete overhaul since gen 3. Colosseum came close)
Legend of Dragoon. (look it up, it was awesome.)
Chrono Trigger. As long as they can keep the original battle system, instead of lining up in rows like Chrono Chross.
Crystal Caves. (Duke Nukem's space-dwelling, collect-a-thon cousin from Apogee. If you entered a depressurized area, you exploded. Metal.)
Yar's Revenge. (oh wait...)
Centipede. (why not? they did Space Invaders. There's some potential here)
Ghouls and Ghosts. (for the love of God, keep it 2D. or at most 2.5D)
Parasite Eve.
River Raid. (an interesting flying game for the old-school Atari. shoot obstacles, collect fuel)
Mechwarrior series. (Please Microsoft, give it to Bungie and let them run with it. Yours sucked.)

I'm sure there are more that deserve an update/overhaul. We can rebuild them. We have the technology.

Ooh...Morrowind, definitely. Shinier graphics, some, you know, physics...great, now you've got my hopes up. And no, Morroblivion doesn't count.

Phantom Dust would be a close second. See some even shinier effects, larger maps, MORE maps, better between-mission system, more characters on a map at any given time...I mean, I loved Phantom Dust to death, but there were a lot of things I'd like to see done better.

Blast Corps. One of my favorite games on the N64

That or Bushido Blade remake, or at least a sequel to it, I love that kind of more realistic duels where fights are over in seconds.
A great spectacle doesn't always need over the top ridiculous action

Remake or not, I want to finally see a US release of Soul Hackers.

If I had to pick something for a definate remake though, I'd say either the 'Ultima' series, or the 'Wizardry' series.

Fallout 1 and 2. New Vegas was excellent, but I want all that great lore from a couple of games I could just never fully get into because of the ancient, old-school "PC RPG" gameplay from the 1990s.

Fallout 1&2, so I can actually play the fucking things.
I'm probably biased, because I did play Fallout 1 and 2 in the "old days", but I'm not usually nostalgic. This year I decided to play the first one again fearing I wouldn't like it so much because of "bad aging". Yes, the interface is quirky, but once you get used to it (which takes some time), the game shines. I then replayed Fallout 2 again and it's even better than the first one, even with all the bugs.

As a less-biased data point, I convinced a friend (who had never played it before) to play Fallout. He bought it from GoG and is having a blast. He likes oldschool games though, even ones he never played.

Me, there are games that I loved in ancient times that I can't stand to play today. Fallout 1 & 2, are definitely NOT in this list.

This sort of thread depresses me. How is it that an industry oft-maligned for repackaging the same game over and over again so rarely manages to recycle content that actually deserves it?

Can't disagree with all the old-school PC RPG nods. Planescape with high Mass Effect-quality voice acting? System Shock 2 with Bioshock-quality visuals?

I've gotta second the Colony Wars nom, though. For whatever reason, they've just stopped making space shooters - and right when we've got the tech to really make this subgenre sing. I honestly don't get it; weren't the epic space battles every kid's favorite scenes in Star Wars?

The Legend of Dragoon, without a doubt.
I agree with this. It was a great game at the time, but now the graphics literally hurt my eyes if I try to play it for too long. An updated look and orchestrated soundtrack would do wonders for it.
