I like the formula of Pokemon games. That formula being "catch Pokemon and powerlevel them at the Elite 4 whenever."

Ah, the classic theory of "To make a JRPG better, make it a WRPG."
Does it really sound like that?
If it does, I think I eather missed my point by a ways, or I wrote it wrong. I'm not trying to change the core of the pokemon games... just spice them up a little. Add to the experience so to speak.
i dont think it sounds like that, i think youre on the right track, its not about changing it to western its just about changing it, ive been playing them since i was like 10 playing Blue and i mean come on it really is just the same thing with different colours/graphics and mabey some new pokemon, something different would be appreciated really because i do love this series.

1. Character F***ing customization. One of the things I liked about Pokemon Battle Revolution when I rented it was that I could customize my character from my clothes and body to my catchphrases and opening statements in battle. It's petty, but come on Nintendo. At least let us customize our online appearance beyond picking one of four pre-done appearances that you have to pick from (That are determined by your serial number of all things, :mad: )
Oooh! On this point:
Let us be able to acually pick out the gender of our rival and what they wear as well, please? I mean, come on, besides having the ability to make them wear bright pink and get a couple of snarky jokes out of what you name them, the fact that your Rival is ALWAYS a guy is a bit annoying.

I mean, I would much rather have a female rival. I like the idea of having a girl chaseing me thoughout the game. (Ok, bad joke, but still..)
Ruby and Sapphire your rival is the opposite of your gender, that being said the girl one is the worst rival of all the games because she is constantly friendly and nice to you, not much of a rival.

Nintendo needs to look at their own notes to be honest.

Red/Blue/Green -> Success

Yellow -> Knocked 'em dead

Gold/Silver -> Huge success*

Sapph...

*extra region was especially popular

Look I just want either;

A) A Pokemon MMO

or

B) A Pokemon Brawler, as in you take your Pokemon and control them action game style.

Okay, heres a list of recommendations from me:

1) EV/IV training. Simply put, fuck right off with this.
2) Enough of this "GOTTA CATCH THE LIMITED AMOUNT AVAILABLE IN THIS VERSION! POKEMON!" crap, make all pokemon acquirable and stop trying to "maximize profts durrr"
3) Keep the idea of the "Elite 4" but approach it differently. Have them all like Red, hidden away in hard to reach places full of dangerous pokemon and have other trainers trying to reach them. Once you beat all 4 of them, receive a phone call from the generic named after a tree professor, informing you that he is actually the champion. Have a shit brix worthy battle in home town. At least try something different.
4) Legendarys. Mewtwo was good, hidden away in a cave and kept as a secret but all of this "DERP IM A GOD LOL OH NOEZ MASTERBALL" shit is getting out of hand. Have them really well hidden, and give them a sidequest each, kinda like Kyourge and Groundon or Dialga and the other one.
5) HM's. Gtfo. Alternatively, make them "held items" like a surfboard or a hedge trimmer and make them have added effects like surfboard giving a damage boost to water types.
6) Moar endgame content. Have people recognize you as the Champion. Legendarys become available. All that sort of stuff.
7) 4 Regions. Let us explore all of them in one game. Thanks.

K, I'm done.

I hate to use Yahtzee in an analogy here, but it wouldn't be the same thing if he changed his background to green, would it? You don't change something to a great extent if it works well, that is just the science of making money. Play it safe, in comes the cash. Especially if you've already established your fanbase, which Nintendo have by miles.

The only thing I'd like Pokémon to do is to add a little character customisation. Nothing ridiculous, but just a little individuality to separate my character from the other million who happen to be playing the game.

Not only the extra regions, but remaking Blue/Red into Fire Red and Leaf Green, and adding 1 more area was a genius move.
Same with Emerald, and Platinum.

But then it wouldn't be a Pokémon game anymore. It'd be a game about Pokémon. There's a difference. Those games sell that well 'cause they add more to stuff the masses like. It's the core wrapped in a different package. Changing the core, even a little, is going to break the main fanbase.

Too big a risk to think, I'd wager.

7) Add more regions. The Pokemon world is vast. Represent that in your games.
8) The ability to re-challenge gym leaders. If you can fight the 4 fifty-bajillion times, but slightly stronger you should be able to do it with the gym leaders too.
9) Let me be able to change what my character looks like
10) Bring back the old room system a la Gold/Silver (did they do this in HG/SS?)

Well, it is true. JRPGs, to be frank, aren't fun. 15 (if anyone gets literal on me, I will kill you) year old guys (who look like chicks) fighting to save the city/world/solar system/galaxy/universe/multiverse? Really, Pokemon at least strays away from some of the JRPG clichés.
I wonder how long it will take for one of a resident JRPG crusader to come along and berate you for that comment.

On-topic: I have to disagree with you. I don't think the Pokemon formula needs to be changed in such a dramatic way. It works fine and clearly a ton of people like it. In my opinion, it just needs to be updated to modern standards. And that means getting rid of all the arbitrary limitations imposed on us by the old games that still linger on for no reason. An example of this are some of the HM moves. Flash and all of its offspring need to be purged. It's an annoying feature that does not enhance gameplay. It necessitates that you remove one of your team members and replace him with the HM slave, because flash is such a crappy move that nobody would use it on a battle Pokemon. Same goes for rock smash, cut, and the other pitiful HM moves. Each HM should be powerful enough so that we can actually consider putting it on our main Pokemon, rather than having to drag along an HM slave.

Another thing that I can not tolerate is the key item system. On the original gameboy, there were fewer buttons so only being able to register one key item made sense. It was annoying, but it made sense. Now we have the DS, which has several buttons that aren't used for anything. Why the hell can't I register items to these unused buttons? As far as I can tell, the start and select buttons serve no purpose in the field. Why not let me register items to them? Only in the most recent game can you register two key items. It took them all the way to the second Pokemon game on the DS to let us register another key item. On the subject of key items, they need to stop giving us so many superfluous items that serve one purpose and then just eat up inventory space.

Those are just some example of how the Pokemon formula could be updated without giving it a major overhaul.

They actually just made a game like that called pokemon rumble. It's only on VC(I think, don't quote me on that." but it's pretty much exactly what you described.

Or how about they just stop with the remakes altogether? Good GOD I can't tell you how much rage I felt when I got explorers of the sky and found out that the only new content had to be unlocked by playing through the plot of explorers of time and darkness. Pokemon has turned into a massive cash cow for nintendo to milk every cent out of.

I just want to be able to choose any pokemon when i start off. None of this fire, grass or water.
Besides I don't like the fact that after two trips through the game my team is going to be pretty much the same because the only two flying pokemon i can choose from are a pidgey or a spearow. So greater access to more pokemon would be nice, which is why i guess the open world thing could work but it would be difficult to get the leveling of okemon and what not. I guess one way to deal with that would be to have all pokemon at say level 3 in their unevolved states and the only way to raise them is through trainer battles. And also get rid of that trade to evolve thing.
And bring back Digimon too.

I have been playing the shit out of SoulSilver and I love it, but I do think Pokemon use some changes
. I like the idea of waring gangs
. In every game you are asked if you want to join the gang but always say no.
why not let the player join the bad guys (could give extra advantages in rising dark types)
. Better bad guys
. Having more gyms, why only 8 (or 16 in HGSS)
. Being able to better customize the player (i.e. age/race/basic look of player)
. More shit to do after the elite four
. No more trade to evolve Pokemon (I always hated that)
. More then 4 attack slots
. Being able to access the PC and withdrawal Pokemon on the road (like maybe as an app for the next pokegear thing)
. Bigger cities
