"(and since we're already nostalgia tripping, what the hell happened to Lemmings?)"
Ehmmmmm, well... what happened was it got ported a billion times over many years and people got massively sick of it!
Plus that one truly doesn't need shitty 3D levels to up the difficulty or be a stupid gimmick.
The original is absolutely wellsuited for the graphics and gameplay it had.

Yes if there is a god we will get a Blood remake! Also Strife needs some retro love'n too.
A Strife remake would make me jizz nonstop from the moment I heard it's announcement to the moment I actually finished the game. but I think the rights are lost somewhere in limbo. Plus I don't think the game had enough enough of a fanbase for there to be a fan remake since I've been on the internet for quite a few years and I've never heard of a anyone talk about it :/ shame too because it had one of the best stories and did a very good job at narrative story telling in a fps that wasn't surpassed until Half-Life, and I think it still holds up when compared to modern games today. simply based on the reviews so far, it seems like it was much better than the Xcom game that just came out

"Videogames have an advantage here because games from 20 years ago look massively worse than games today, while films etc. have had no equivalent technological upgrade. I'd still argue that the quality of the original 1993 Syndicate overshadows the fairly shitty 2012 Syndicate."

I think this quote is interesting, especially considering that the original Xcom, syndicate and Rise of the Triad were better looking than the remakes^^.

I find most of the recent remakes rather pointless, as none of them really captures what made the originals special. I´d much rather see rereleases of classics on consoles with updated controls, that would be much more interesting. Or they could remake L.A. Noire, make it look like an actual Noire movie and remove all that Sandbox/Action nonsense, they missed the chance to make an awesome climactic court drama as the final showdown, something that could be retconned in a stylish remake. But then again, i´d rather someone took inspiration from L.A. Noire and made something fresh and awesome, than i would want a remake.

Some of these ideas seem rather well put together, it's a shame you probably don't have time to make games yourself (what with the 50+ game ideas I've read so far on XP).

When thinking about Nostalgia in videogaming, 20 years seems like quite a stretch. Styles of games just seem to disappear in a few years, or styles of games seem to overtake the market in a few years. Two years after CoD 4 came out you'd be lucky to find a shooter that wasn't trying to be CoD 4 (even it's sequel was just CoD 4 with gloss and boredom all over it).

Now there's a name I haven't heard in ages. If we're talking about Doom engine stuff might as well toss Heretic and Hexen on the list too.
Would be nice to see a new H game with the classes or not since Hexen is a sequel to Heretic and all. But no one wants to make a good FPS they are all quasi rail shooters like DOOM 3/Quake 4 and or a bit too generic/mindless like COD now adays ><

You never know it might be easy to get it might not. But the word must be spread around.

Id go flr mutant league football. It was on the sega genesis and was madden with trolls, robots, skeletons, aliens and mad max style humans.

Plus the half time show was killing the alien cheerleaders with explosives. Brilliant. There was no gain for killing them all except personal satisfaction.

I remember gloom as a quake 2 mod with aliens vs humans where your rewards for kills etc let you spawn as something bigger and meaner.

It's not "nostalgia" so much as being creatively bankrupt, Ben. They've sucked the "brown military shooter" teat dry and now they're desperately casting about for something else to be their lightning in a bottle (as opposed to their thunder in a bucket).

That said, one of these days I'm totally going to do a full-3D remake of Dungeons of Daggorath [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_of_Daggorath].

One Must Fall 2097 needs a remake so long as they a) keep it 2.5D a la Super Street Fighter IV, and b) keep those ugly robot models. Love me some two-button brawling.

Wait! Did Yahtzee just argue that the WiiU's touchscreen could improve a game?

It would be sweet if Star Wars EP 1 Pod Racer (N64) was remade for today's consoles/PC. It was one of my favourite racing games back then and reminds me of F-Zero for its super fast races and wacky courses. They could update the visuals to today's standards, add new content ranging from new courses to new racers (plus racer features similar to sebulba's fire shooting) and improve the multiplayer to support more players and bots via split-screen, LAN and online. Plus have some background music during the race (not just on the final lap).

Yes, I totally agree with Blood. A shot-for-shot remake of that would be just superb. I think it's one of those 90's games that still holds up.

There was actually a Lemmings reboot a few years ago by the guys who make Worms. I don't know if it was any good.
I played it. It was not.

Sea Dogs needs a remake. Think Pirates! but you can actually command your own fleet with your own captains and specialist crew members that give various bonuses to their respective ships.

If you take a Galleon you can give it to your first mate for him to escort you around with. Suddenly you're a pirate king... shame the game had horrible AI for your followers and was buggy as hell.

A bit of polish and modern tech would make it a brilliant romp.

well i guess the shitty 2012 syndicate is one of the reasons they're making an unofficial successor: sattelite reign. Which i think is good. Syndicate elements but at least not a blatant rehash.

I'd love to see Captive redone, or at least the Idea that your using a remote control robot/team of robots to free yourself from a space-based jail, having to actually traverse different bases to try and find the jail in the first place.

Syndicate should have been set in a GTA sized sand box world. Where you get to run around the streets, persuade people to join you and kill random people for fun. Remakes are fun, but they have to have the core basics of the original. The Bureau being a version of Xcom is fine as long as its stays true to the original, it being an FPS doesnt matter. Hell out of the four original Xcom games, only the first two was any good, the other two sucked.

Lemmings MmoRpg would seem like a suitable way to kill it off for good.

A nice self aware nod to the pseudo-suicidal behavior the game basis itself upon

The games I'd like to see re-done would be Ultima 1-6, Might and Magic I-IV, King's Quest I-IV, Maniac Mansion, Wizardry I-VII, and Dragon Slayer I-IV. Heck, a lot of games from the NES, Commodore, and DOS era. Games that certainly would have aged better if they had the technological freedom of 20 years ago..

Ultima 1-6 would be especially interesting remakes. Their interfaces, controls, and graphics needed a rather large instruction manual to fully embrace them when they were made.

Now, you might as well tell someone that "it's like playing Everquest or Elder Scrolls 1... without sound... or a mouse.. with the visual style of an NES game.. using DOS commands.. and requiring the knowledge of a rather extensive manual.." and see how many people line up for a chance to play it.

Compare it to Rise of the Triad:
"It's a 2.5D DOS shooter similar to DOOM or Wolfenstein 3D, featuring jump pads, collectibles, and a chance to transform into a dog," Comparably, RotT sounds and looks rather decent, even in its original form.

Despite its popularity in the past, a game like Ultima I-VI would be hard-pressed to find anyone interested in a remake without some severe re-tooling involved.

HERETIC and HEXEN would be just awesome to see again. Especially the gloves of the necromancer. No stealthy bullshit, no two weapons only. I want all ten, and I want it to be fun and atmospheric with odd mechanical puzzles to solve. I just want it with new graphics.
