And for the haters who are ready to spam my mail as we speak, this is what Wikipedia had to say:
The Escapist (typeset as the escapist) is an online magazine covering video games, gamers, the gaming industry, and gaming culture.

EDIT: The point is why are these on the escapist, and not somewhere else.

Because believe it or not, gamers have other things to discuss other than gaming. Plus, we have a gaming section to discuss about games.
I do not appreciate it when people use the wrong section to complain about things. This should have gone under off topic along with all the other stuff you complained about.

I agree with this completely. Even though I'm probably one of the people you're hating on. If it weren't for Doraleous, I probably would have never accessed this site. It's just that the escapist has unique viewpoints that seem to match my own, most of the time. It's the "gamer" culture and their opinions that attract me to the site, not necessarily the content.

I was brought here by gaming, but certainly found joy in the variety of topics this community was willing to discuss. It's refreshing having a more insightful view into various topics, and I'm glad The Escapist has a place for those as well.

Gaming still seems to be the focus, and as long as that remains the case; does it really matter if there's some Off-Topic discussion going on? I'd much rather keep track of one forum than several.

Again, this is more personal preference.

Also, your thread is about the Forums themselves, not gaming...just saying.

No. I don't think I came to the Escapist early enough to remember that, I mean I know gaming is discussed here occasionally but I just don't see it as often as one might expect.

I agree with this completely. Even though I'm probably one of the people you're hating on. If it weren't for Doraleous, I probably would have never accessed this site. There is an Off-topic section. This is where we discuss things other than the site's "Topic" which is gaming. Don't go there if you don't want to see threads unrelated to gaming. The Escapist, while technically a site for discussing gaming, has always covered the various aspects of "Nerd culture" Video games, science, movies, books, happenings around the internet, etc.. If you don't care about these topics there's a simple solution: Don't read them.

And why in God's name would you want to discuss a divisive issue such as Abortion on Yahoo of all places?

Everything on here is covered. maybe if there was a major gaming announcement that they missed or didn't thoroughly report on then I would understand. But to my limited knowledge this hasn't happened and is not your beef.
You are upset because.....people are talking about their lives(which I would think is what the whole 'culture' portion is about) and such on a website that WON A WEBBY FOR BEST LIFESTYLE?

This topic should have been in the off topic board.... I don't see anything wrong with off topic boards on hobbie sites. I mean, I used to go to the ones on gamefaqs that had nothing to do with games... It could be interesting to see the other opinions, hobbies, and interests of fellow gamers.

Err...you see those sections when you come to the forum? You seem to be looking for gaming discussion in the Off-Topic forum. Try looking in the Gaming Forum. Problem solved. Ignore whats irrelevant to you. 80% of my posts are in the Gaming Forum, with the mostly split evenly between Off-Topic and User Reviews

Ok since I like repeating things everyone else already said this is a gaming site but not all the content is about gaming. This is a site for people who play games to discuss anything as long as it is in the right section if you want to talk about random stuff go to the off topic section if you don't go to the gaming discussion section.
