This thread is just going to be about things that you remember or feel should be remembered about gaming's past (A year ago and beyond). I'll start off to give an example:

...when TES IV:Oblivion was praised for it's amazing graphical quality...(well it still is pretty good...but those faces...)

...when blowing into games would fix them...

When pointing an orange plastic gun at a screen and pulling the trigger would cause ducks to fall from the sky.

Remember when the controller was a joystick and a single button?

Remember when games had to be loaded using the command: load "*",8,1
(* being the file to load off the floppy drive)?

No?

Well, guess you guys missed out.

When you couldn't save your progress so if you wanted to finish a game you had to sit there and finish it in one go...

Oh, but that should be remembered. We can tell our kids of the horrors of gaming past, when nerds were persecuted by those who considered themselves "normal." When lunch money was taken and books hit out of our hands, simply for liking video games or comic books! When an interest in anime was punished by isolation and abandonment! These things we remember; we remember so these events may never repeat themselves again! We remember the mistakes of our past so the future will be a better, more nerd-friendly time! NEVER AGAIN WILL INTEREST IN NERDLY ACTIVITIES BE LOOKED DOWN UPON!!!!!!!

*ahem*

I mean, that stuff should be remembered too. For a different reason than most on this thread, but it should definitely be remembered.

Indeed, and nowadays it's all cool and hip, and what did we, the through-and-through gamers get for it?! Nothing!

Anyway, I remember not being able to save, but instead you got a code each time you beat a level so you could still play the next level if you turned off the game. Gods, I had so many pieces of paper lying around with dozens of codes written all over them.

I remember when a certain game-related magazine and its staff were hilariously funny, from start to finish, while all the time maintaining the status quo of "Yes, we're reviewing games, answering questions, and even giving away stuff". Somewhere down the line, the fun part got less fun and the humor dried up. Not because they were less funny, but because they just trying to get more serious. These things happen, but I always remember the zanyness.

Oh, and Gazuga. Can't forget HIM.

When lining up in the early hours for a game release was for "geeks and "nerds" and now suddenly it's alright to do it (I'm looking at you Modern Warfare 2).

I also remember a time when games were fun and made me shout "YESSSS!!!" when I beat them. Now it more "Ah, awesome. Another game done".
