Well my humble friends, November the fifth is now upon us...or it is for most of you. It's nearly over for me, but that doesn't matter. What I want to know is how you will or have celebrated it?

I put on my Guy Fawkes mask and watched 'V for Vendetta', as lighting fires is not allowed in the Australian summer. A little dry, I know, but one must do his best in these times. I'm sure this will be a interesting discussion, if we have as many English members as I think we have.

Mine is being spent waiting for the misses to finish work so we can see if our daughter is scared of fireworks or not.

How will I celebrate it? With birthday cake and presents of the BF3 variety! Today is also my birthday, sadly, I do not have a Guy Fawkes mask to wear with my party hat

How silly of me, I forgot that this important event must have music. So, I present this for your enjoyment.

Nothing like dressing up to look like an utter failure who was pro authority.

Let's tear down the Government and install Catholic leadership!

I considered overthrowing the government in a bloody, but hilarious badly planned terrorist attack on religious grounds, but the idea fizzled.

Just think, in a few hundred years, all the cool kids will be wearing bin Laden masks on September 11s.

I have 2 £220 floorside tickets to the UFC event in Birmingham tonight. Got them for £20 and going with a few people from work. Fab!

I know the event which made Guy Fawkes famous, but I wear the mask for a different reason, not to celebrate what he tried to do, but to celebrate what the mask means today.

I...I think I love you.

Except it'll probably be the underwear bomber.

No, the idea that people can revolt and make a difference in their country. That ideas and words still have power, things that should never be forgotten.

No problem. In fact, that's only one small part. The full piece comes close to fifteen minutes long.

Who could forget, the new episode of MLP comes out today.

Nothing else special about it.

Nothing at all.

I'm celebrating by sitting back with some popcorn and watching what Anonymous is doing. They've got something planned for today, although Facebook has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Edit: And the irony is, I clicked on this thread thinking it was the one I started about that. It even had the exact same title.

Things like a false and romanticised view of the Gunpowder plot?

Because what's been remembered is a lie, and the actual events are largely forgotten. This is not a unique point in history, but it is a dangerous one. Even as Guy Fawkes masks appear on Occupy Wall Street in America, the majority of Americans have forgotten how we got to this point, though it is quite important. "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend." And what will we take from this? Probably what we took from Guy Fawkes.

Guy Fawkes masks represent the importance of fiction over fact. You pretty much said it yourself.

I'm sure Australia has its own analogues. It's shit. Dangerous, hypocritical shit.
