For those of you who have played Call of Duty 4, remember that level where your with the sniper, and he gets wounded, you wait for a heli to come and extract you in Prypiat? With the big ferris wheel?

Two missions in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare take place in Prypiat, where the player is tasked with sniping a target.

Its also in the game STALKER, that goes without saying.

Here is some photo's of someone who visited that place. If you dont know about Prypiat it was a place that was populated with around 50,000 people. It was made to accomodate the workers and their families of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, then one of the Power Plants exploded, thus causing an evacuation of the city taking 2 days in total to evacuate.

Now the city is abandoned and unused, looking at these pictures really is 'bone chillingly' interesting.

I just thought I would show you guys.

The following link contains a bunch of images shot by the guy.

(Yeah, that part on CoD)

EDIT: I myself actually never knew or thought about this being a real place, if I offend any of you who do know about this place by showing people who also dont know about this place, I apologise... ¬¬

Its still interesting right?

And?

Liked Pripyat in the first STALKER game, the push when the Brain Scorcher went offline.

That is so cool. It would make sense that the developer would include some recognizable landmark in the game environment if it were meant to be representing a real place.

Yeah, I remember that mission, big deal. They went and did research on a location. Lots of game developers do.

Pripyat is a very interesting place. It's a city that's been abandoned, but at time of evacuation the city itself was intact. It hadn't been bombed or burned or anything else that would due major damage to the structures of the city. Radiation is obviously deadly to us but it doesn't destroy concrete. So when you look at Pripyat, you see a city that has only been destroyed by the ravages of time. Like what would happen if humans just vanished one day, and everything we built was left to decay and crumble.

Wow, that is pretty cool. That mission was one of the most unrealistic, you know, 2 guys take on hundreds of enemies but this makes it a little bit better.

Oh my God! Pripyat, Ukraine looks like Pripyat, Ukraine! The shock!

Sorry for the sarcasm, but I don't understand what you're trying to say here. Did people really not know this was a real place, or that the level design was actually based off the abandoned city?

Anyway, I'd love to go there.

Fifty thousand people used to live here, now it's a ghost town (ingrained into my skull - I still play the campaign to relieve myself from the Blops tragedy) - as said by:
Gaz, too awesome to live (come one its been 3 years now. It doesn't count as a spoiler)
MacMillian, too awesome to die!

That's exactly why I find it interesting. From memory, there's also an island near Japan that has something similar. Was a city full of people, now it's abandoned, but everything is still intact.

Creepy.

Fair enough, then. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.

Anyway, back to how cool this place is! There are some really great documentaries about Chernobyl that go to Pripyat (I have no idea how to spell it in English) that go there and catch some great footage of the abandoned buildings and playgrounds overgrown with plants. It's eerie and awesome. I think that Life After People program shot there too. It's probably on Youtube somewhere. I highly recommend it!
