For those of you who have played Call of Duty 4, remember that level where your with the sniper, and he gets wounded, you wait for a heli to come and extract you in Prypiat? With the big ferris wheel?

Two missions in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare take place in Prypiat, where the player is tasked with sniping a target.

Its also in the game STALKER, that goes without saying.

Here is some photo's of someone who visited that place. If you dont know about Prypiat it was a place that was populated with around 50,000 people. It was made to accomodate the workers and their families of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, then one of the Power Plants exploded, thus causing an evacuation of the city taking 2 days in total to evacuate.

Now the city is abandoned and unused, looking at these pictures really is 'bone chillingly' interesting.

I just thought I would show you guys.

The following link contains a bunch of images shot by the guy.

(Yeah, that part on CoD)
"Get out of here, Stalker!"
My god... it's crazy how accurate the game is compared to the actual landmark.
Looking at those photos, i honestly felt like i had already been there and seen all of this before.
I was half hoping for a shot of a rabid dog or a bloodsucker to pop up during that blog, but no such luck. Still, awesome shots. thanks for sharing with us.

I knew that the deserted city was a real place, but I didn't know the in-game level was modelled quite as closely after the city. Cool picture, thanks for sharing.

Umm... I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

They made a level set in the town Prypiat. (A good idea incidentally.) So they made that level look like the actual town.

And of course they included the ferris wheel. It's the landmark of Prypiat. Arguably even more recognisable then the actual Chernobyl reactor building. Not including that ferris wheel would be like making a game set in Paris without including the Eiffel Tower.

Pripyat is a very interesting place. It's a city that's been abandoned, but at time of evacuation the city itself was intact. It hadn't been bombed or burned or anything else that would due major damage to the structures of the city. Radiation is obviously deadly to us but it doesn't destroy concrete. So when you look at Pripyat, you see a city that has only been destroyed by the ravages of time. Like what would happen if humans just vanished one day, and everything we built was left to decay and crumble.
There's actually an entire TV series all about what would happen if people up and vanished without warning. It shows what would happen to all the mega structures, reactors, power plants, wildlife and farm animals among other things without people around. I don't remember what it was called, but its pretty damn cool.

Oh my God! Pripyat, Ukraine looks like Pripyat, Ukraine! The shock!

Sorry for the sarcasm, but I don't understand what you're trying to say here. Did people really not know this was a real place, or that the level design was actually based off the abandoned city?

Anyway, I'd love to go there.
Yeah I never even thought about it being a real place, just came across it so I thought others who are gamers and dont know its a real place should know, coz' its interesting right? I also, would love to go there.

Fair enough, then. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.

Anyway, back to how cool this place is! There are some really great documentaries about Chernobyl that go to Pripyat (I have no idea how to spell it in English) that go there and catch some great footage of the abandoned buildings and playgrounds overgrown with plants. It's eerie and awesome. I think that Life After People program shot there too. It's probably on Youtube somewhere. I highly recommend it!
No problem, thankyou I shall check that out.

Screw Call of Duty.
Stalker was way more accurate and they recreated the entire fucking town, not just the amusement park bit, and in Shadow of Chernobyl, you can walk around and in nearly every single building in Pripiat. i wish everyone would shutup about Call of Duty.
Stalker did it better.

In depth research reveals that the city is called 'Pripyat,' not 'Prypiat.'
The city is called 'При́пять' actually, and both 'Pripyat' and 'Pripiat' are accepted english translations.
Extensions upon extensive research have extended my brain out of my sphincter and onto the kitchen floor.

If your enjoying these images, may I recommend that you check out the series of images "Zones of Exclusion: Pripyat and Chernobyl" by Robert Polidori. Absolutely fantastic work by a very skilled photographer.

Obviously it lacks the connection to games, but it is fascinating to see these places, they have a strange beauty about them, which never really comes across in any of the games I played with levels set there.

Yeah, check out this video. Most of the level is true to life locations. When i first saw it I gained a new respect for the IW team and their research team because its quite mindblowing.

Yeah, I saw some commercials for that. I believe it was called "Life after humans" or something like that. It looked interesting, but I wouldn't watch it for some reason. I think it's because it was on the History channel, and most of the shows on the History channel are complete bullshit.

I've had an interest in Pripyat for quite some time now, and if I ever get the opportunity, I will visit the place :)

That's exactly why I find it interesting. From memory, there's also an island near Japan that has something similar. Was a city full of people, now it's abandoned, but everything is still intact.

Creepy.
That would be Battleship Island ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashima_Island ).

Oh yeah, that was the name. I watched a few episodes, it was pretty damn interesting, not really a bore or anything to be honest. It started off on the day after people, and then started to get further and further after people until it was like thousands of year after people. It did it on a whole bunch of different things like all the animals and stuff, I recommend it if your'e interested.

I already knew Pripyat existed, but seeing those pictures and seeing how accurate CoD got it (never thought I would type those words) is pretty cool.
