yeah, the first 150 and singing along to the pokerap with Ant and Dec on SMTV live on Saturday mornings...

One of the corner stones of a 90s childhood

But yeah, I do not mind so much, some of the new pokemon in the games are pretty cool. I love Swablu, but I cannot remember what version I had it on, I think it was the last one on the gameboy advance version.

I really did not like using the touch screen on the version after that (I think it was diamond) but the new black and white version looks pretty sweet. No more `hidden` pokemon jumping out of the long grass

I still play my Blue and Yellow while on the bus. I tried to play Gold and Silver when they came out, but never really got into those.

Give me Red/Blue and Yellow any day.

why did we have to introduce another 1000 (of course Im over exaggerating) new Pokemon.
Where's the exaggeration?

Oh, I'm such a card.

Anyway, yep I agree that there are too many; not in the sense that we should only have 151, but just that they're so bloody hard to get. WiFi events, US/JPN only events, retailer events.. There's probably 20 or 30 that are impossible to get if you aren't able/willing to fly internationally for it. And the trade station? You can't request it unless you've encountered it? What's the point!

By the time I managed to get a Mew, I'd stopped trying and didn't care any more.

I personally liked Generations 1 + 2. Then after that... while the Pokemon got no worse, the show did. :p
Then with Generation 4 things declined in terms of Pokemon a bit. And seeing some of Generation 5... well, it is just sad. :p

The poster I had years and years ago only had 150 pokemon on.
I'm a bit on the fence about mew, as you can't catch him in the games only through cheating or those special events they had.

Also, Mew isn't even in the old Pokerap from the show!

It's common to hear people going all nostalgic over the original set and decrying the newer additions for being comparatively crap, but I think it's just nostalgia talking. Yes, the newer gen might have had weirdos like Vanilluxe, Klink and Swoobat, but Jynx, Magneton and Execute weren't exactly stellar designs either.

There are basically good and bad additions each generation.

No, I don't miss the older ones because they're still around.

Also it would be outright stupid to just have the original 151 Pokemon. In a world as big as Pokemon's, spanning continents and vast distances...only 151 species of them exist? Yeah, right. I'd rather risk it with new designs than have that particularly huge question destroy my suspension of disbelief.

Nostalgia truly is powerful; I imagine that if we'd had 5 gens of games and no new Pokemon besides the originals, the same people who ***** about ice-cream cones and trashbags would complain about stagnation and lack of originality. We all have differing opinions, but let's not lose perspective by wishing 5 gens' worth of new species gone.

Chandeliers, coffins, trashbags and gears aren't particularly sensible designs, but neither was a glop of muck, a mime, a hippie, and a floating magnet...I enjoy the new gens as much as I do the old ones because it was never about how "true-to-real-animals" the monsters are.

Besides, I love how every new gen makes last gen's rarest Pokemon much more easily attainable without making them obsolete. You could catch wild EEVEES in Gen 4.

gen 1 and 2 had horrible legendarys but better starters so I like games all in a different way. (I would take rayquaza and giratina over Lugia and Mewtwo anyday)

The newer Pokemon give the game more variety in terms of content, everyone loves finding out what the new batch of Pokemon look like whether they're good or bad. And every generation has it's gems. Without the newer generations we'd have missed out on so many great Pokemon.
id say gen 1-3 were perfect, gen 4 was where it started to go down hill and gen 5 is where it crashed into a sewage plant
well basically gen 5 was just 'lets make every combo of type we havent got yet!'

M'aiq thinks the old Pokémon are beautiful. The new Pokémon are beautiful as well. They look better than ever before.
