The question is simple: if you could get rid of a game mechanic, which one would you choose.
As in it would have never existed in the entire history of video games.

Things like regenerating health, cover based shooting, iron sights,2 weapon system, etc. Whatever pisses you off enough in games that you wonder how they even thought of the idea.

I'm definitely choosing regenerating health.

And I have a feeling the majority of you will too.

I would remove regenerating health because that makes the game too easy. You can just take cover for a few seconds and be perfectly fine.

Regenerating health is fine in certain games, but not in every game, like how it is now.
And I hate the two weapon system with a burning passion. First time I ever played Halo, I thought it was quite a good game, until I discovered the gaming affliction that is the two weapon system. It only belongs in military-like games, such as CoD or Counter Strike.

Oh, and tags/sprays in multiplayer. Somehow, I always get stuck on a server that has that one douche. You know who I'm talking about; that one guy who seems to think it's funny when they post a shock picture (ie, lemonparty) or porn. They don't seem to realize that some people aren't playing on an entirely private computer.

Online achievements. The amount of people online makes them hard, the hackers and glitchers make them impossible.

If that doesn't count, Rubber-banding. I want my competitors to take off realistically (according to the game), and if I have a car that is ridiculously faster, I want it to show.

Because I have seen this thread far too many times and I'm tired of the sheep bleating the same few thing over and over, I'm taking this thing in a new direction.

I would remove buttons from gaming. No buttons on controllers no virtual buttons on touchpads, no button inputs what-so-ever. It would be interesting to see how gaming would evolve without such a fundamental part of it and would be interesting to see how people respond to motion controls when they are introduced to a button-less world.

QTEs.

Seriously, fuck those things. Either work your set piece into gameplay properly or, if that's too hard for you, just give me a cutscene. Don't take the half arsed press-button-when-prompted-while-trying-to-watch-cutscene approach.

PS. I like regenerating health. It means I don't have to interrupt the flow of the game to run around stubbing my toes on first-aid kits every five minutes.

Rubber..banding?

OT: I'd have to say mics in online play. Just breeds dumbfucks, trolling, raging, and overall.. Terrible gameplay experiences. At least make it so we can only hear people on our friend's list, or those in a party with us.

Wave gameplay. You know, when you just sit there and fight wave. After wave. After wave. Of enemies, constantly. It's boring, breaks immersion unless done REALLY well, and makes me hate games. Looking at you, Uncharted. UGH.

Speaking of bad things in Uncharted, random quicktime events. If you've never had them in your game DON'T throw them in at the end.

I've said it many times, but I'll say ti again. Uncharted isn't a good game.

One example of this effect in a racing game would involve the AI driver's vehicles becoming significantly faster when behind the player's vehicle, and significantly slower while in front, as if the two vehicles were connected by a large rubber band.

I'd remove turret sections. Be it the Final boss of Dead Rising, the asteroids in Dead Space, or the multitude of mounted gun challenges in Jak II and III, turret levels have always caused an unnecessary amount of frustration and displeasure without really contributing anything to the game. If you're gonna make these ridiculous feats part of your game, at the very least don't force me to do them in order to advance in the game. I remember playing the turret section in Dead Space thinking "Oh god there's no reason for this level to be here. We could have gone right along without this mechanic and the experience would be more enjoyable! Why would you do this EA?"

What cod you say cod is not a game mechanic but surely almost every fucking fps nowadays feels and plays like cod with the few exceptions that are great but are shunned by the stereotypical 12 year old bastard who thinks cod is realistic. sigh You know some times i wish pedobear was real and gay

but seriously
