I've decided to use the search bar to see how many of my topic ideas have already been taken. Turns out that a few have been SPAMMED around here like there's no tomorrow.

I can understand that if a certain topic is constantly made (zombie apocalypse), it gets irritating.
I like trying to be original and asking some new question that no one has asked before, but it seems difficult for me sometimes.

How do you feel about thread topics that are brought up repeatedly? I'm also wondering if it doesn't bother anyone if there's only one other thread like it. Is there some sort of time cutoff for it to be okay?

Edit: I ask these because I'm still new to posting questions on this here internetty thingy. I don't know the ethics and standards of forums very well.... Bah!

The ironic part of me wants to ask if you searched for "Repeat Threads."

Nah, just kiddin. I typically don't mind as long as they are not horribly clustered together. Hell, when PSN went down earlier this week there were at least eight threads that popped up about it within hours.

It gets even worse with big name releases.

I don't mind if threads are repeated, so long as it's not every day. But when threads are repeated on an hourly or daily basis they start to become a sort of cancer.

You caught me. I honestly did just to be safe. Irony caught me!

Exactly! Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 plagued my school.

So if they're fairly spread out it's not too bothersome?

I like it if a good week goes by before the next one of the exact same thread appears but... that NEVER happens. just now yet another, yet poorly done thread about... shit I feel dejavu... did I post here already?

edit*apparently not*

Anyway, I really think a week shoudl go by. The playstation 2 has been 10 years old for a while now and we already had a great thread on it and then some other guy brings up the same thing only to do it in a pathetic way compared to the first guy.

Same thing with EVERy UBisoft DRM thread and Metroid Other M did it too.

SHit guys, all of the first ones are only 3 pages down AT MOST...

I'm pretty sure he'd break you in two.

Anyway, yeah. I felt this sudden, "pop" in my head right behind my eye of when I was typing almost the exact same reply to this one that i did the last. It made me laugh. But it was worse here than any of the otehr threads because I actually had something different to add in those. But here... nope. There's nothing mroe to say than to give it at least a week.

I really hate repeat threads. Having to say the same thing over again bothers me. I'd prefer it if people did revive old threads, in my opinion no matter how old*. Then everyone's opinions and ideas are together rather than separated into several different threads. I don't see the point in not doing this.

However, my opinion is certainly not a part of the majority, as I'm sure many people would be quick to remind me of if I did not point this out. So rather than continue to whine about repeat threads, I simply use the search bar to find the repeated thread and copy my post from there. Technically I'm not adding any new discussion, but nobody should really expect me to when the thread has been done several times before. I'm not going to bother to retype my entire post just because the thread as been done before.

*Though depending on the topic I would make an exception. The discussion of some topics is limited by time depending on the subject. For example, there is no reason to revive a thread analyzing the trailer for an upcoming video game 5 months after its release. But then other threads, like ones that ask what your favorite video game is, are not limited by time.

I just hate seeing repeated threads and going "did I post on that one? or that one? I can't tell" And in every one it's the same arguments, same topics, same everything it's annoying

Don't realy mind too much. I'm not on all day and sometimes I miss threads that will be repeated a few days later so I get my opinion on that thread. If they are repeated every day then it just annoys me.

Wonder if this thread will be locked?

Anyhow I usually don't mind too much, I just tend to ignore them.

On occasion I like repeat threads because I just search back through my previous posts and find the answer I used for the last one. One cut and paste job and a snarky comment later and I feel good about myself. However if this is constant, then I stop responding and ignore them. Besides, I hate being the douche-y one to say "Use the Search Bar".

Eh. Anything's good for discussion. If a thread was started a few months back and it hasn't had a response for a few weeks, it's not a sin to re-create it, rather than necroing. Nothing puts people off like 10 pages of replies (not to discredit escapists, it's a just many threads can get caught up in quote wars/discussions).

Well, it's kind of tiresome to see the lack of originality, and it's always annoying when someone's main contribution to a topic is "search bar" or some variation thereof.

So I guess originality is good, but on the other hand you can bring up a topic 100 times and still find something new to talk about... Except when you can't.

I find people posting "search bar" or some snide remark to that effect far more irritating than I find the actual dup. threads themselves.
