Honestly, I had this dilemma a while back. My poison being Sweet Tea (I'm Southern). And I would drink a pitcher a week, probably drinking 2-3 glasses a day with ease.

After doing some research, I found that literally anything that had "flavor" was not much better. Yes, even juices. So I bit the bullet and started drinking nothing but water. And over a year later, I don't find water tasteless. It's a pleasant drink and I probably drink 5 glasses a day, especially on work days.

So I say just try drinking water. Give it a month or two, and you probably won't even miss soda. Even more so, if you start a work out regime.

Squash, but with carbonated/sparkling water instead of still.

Diet soda drinks are my current vice. I dropped the sugar years back, and moved completely to water for a while. But the water in my new area tastes like garbage. I do find water filter jugs improve the taste a fair bit, though. Mainly I'm on diet soda (and coffee) for the caffeine, which is the next thing to eliminate.

Juice is not very good for you. If you look at store bought juices, it is like 30-40g of sugar per serving, which is basically a soda.

The only way juice is in anyway good for you is if you get a juicer which keeps all the pulp and fibre. And even then, you don't want to drink lots of juice.

There is no good sugar. All sugar is the same. It all spikes your blood sugar levels, it all will lead to health problems.
Yep, this. You guys can stop trying to wrap your heads around the riddle of the healthiest sugar drink, because there isn't one. You can drink water/tea or other zero sugar beverages, or you can just pick whatever sugar bomb tastes best to you and ride the sugar high all the way to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, and an ever expanding waistband.

If you absolutely love pops and fruit juices and cannot bear to be without them, have a little bit, now and then. Treat it like a dessert you have once or twice a week. You drink that shit with every meal and you're setting yourself up for some ugly surprises later in life.

Well, pardon us, for trying to keep something actually tasty in our diets!

...

I kid, I kid. Moderation in all things will make one happier, I reckon.

That's the real cut of it though. There's so much sugar in the SAD now that people's sense of taste is completely screwed up. It can and will return to normal if people eat healthy foods for a couple of weeks, but there's usually a revolt before then because people want their food to be "fun".

When I eat a piece of fruit now it tastes INSANELY sweet to me. Incredibly tasty. That same fruit was sour to me when I was eating SAD.

Everyone kind of has a stake in the situation with diet and nutrition these days. At the rate incidences of lifestyle diseases are skyrocketing, the health system we're going to depend on in our old age is going to collapse in the next 10-20 years.

Well, I'm caffeine addicted, so that's mostly why I drink soda. I do think a few taste absolutely delicious, but I can only drink so many. It makes me feel sick knowing there are people who can drink a half a case or more of soda in day or two and not even know it. Though I'll occasionally down a 2 liter of Coca-cola or Brisk Iced Tea (might as well be soda...) depending on my mood.

Anyway, I mostly drink flavored water. As far as I can see most of them only contain a small amount of sodium at worst.

For my caffeine fix, I drink coffee and have caffeine tabs/pills. I'm still an energy drink junkie though, and I drink them way more often than I should, even after I quit my shitty job.

I will never understand why people can't just drink water.

It takes, what, 15 seconds to drink half a litre of water? If that? You drink 1-2 litres a day. That's a minute total, max.

Surely people can endure one minute a day drinking something that isn't liquefied sugar.

Because it doesnt taste...like anything. Its boring and a chore. I try to drink water every day, but I honestly forget to cause I have no taste compelling me. And that is not even considering actual meals where I want to enjoy the taste of it. Water usually dilutes the taste.

I will add, I am the kind of person who if I did not need to eat, I still would purely for the enjoyment of eating.

Yeah, a chore that you can do in a minute or two per day. That was my point.

Walk to sink. Fill glass/bottle. Drink. Such a chore. The horror.

If you can't hydrate yourself without the motivation of sugar then there is something fundamentally fucked up with your dietary habits.

I'm not standing on a podium here. I'm no paragon of healthy diets. I don't eat as many veggies as I should, I love cheap pizza and I'll pig out if I give myself half a chance, but an inability to endure pouring a glass of water down one's throat every so often is beyond my ken.

Water tastes like dirt to me, and that's the best taste as all the others i've found taste like licking a dirty drain pipe. But there really isn't a good alternative, as tea tastes like mulch.

I mix it with Orange or Apple juice to get more drink for less sugar. Ginger ale mixes particularly well with just about anything you want to use (even water), and it's the only carbonated drink I ever have any more. Probably just as bad as Coke or Pepsi, but better-tasting even when mixed with healthier things.

I take water to work though. The strange thing? It gives me more gas than carbonated drinks.

It's fifteen seconds of something you don't enjoy, four times a day.

There's no good excuse here unless you don't have access to potable water.

Do you know how many half empty bottles or cups of water have just sit next to me? It really is not for a lack of trying.

here's what I do
find a bottle for brewing tea in, they're normally glass and have a mesh filter inside them so you don't drink your tea bags
get 1 or 2 of them, fill em with lemon and lime slices, chuck em in your fridge overnight and BAM
you have seasoned water that requires very little prep (literally 1 lemon and 1 lime will do both) and you don't even need to remove the slices because of the bottles included filter
and because I don't need the flavour to be very strong I just re-use the slices
