I love me a bit of multiplayer but I just don't wanna play cod anymore, anything a bit different would someone recommend?

ARMA? The multiplayer is free on the PC, but you're still locked out of a few things if you don't buy the full game.
If you're looking to get away from FPSes and their MP, try Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and their MP. It doesn't focus on your K/D ratio but instead on how you kill people. It even includes a little tutorial so you're not lost when you start.
Come on people! If you're looking for a good fps then look no further than the STALKER games. There are even 3 of them at this point.
Failing that, I'd say Far Cry 2. You'll have to look a while for a more fascinating game these days. It lets you run your car off a bridge because you were busy looking at the map! How brilliant is that! And the map, I might add, is in the world, not just a tawdry screen.

Since you're coming from CoD and you said no Battlefield, I'm guessing you want fast paced simple deathmatch, but implemented differently from CoD, right? Because if so, try looking into some old fashioned arena shooters. Some free ones include Quake Live, Nexuiz, and Open Arena, while decent paid ones include the Serious Sam games, the rest of the Quake series, the Unreal Tournament series, and if you're really feeling adventurous, Doom. My suggestion is to give Quake Live a shot, and if you like the premise, to try out some of the other games I just listed.
I agree with a few people on here, the best mutiplayer FPS out at the moment has to be Team Fortress 2, with the added bonus of it being free on steam! Also Unreal Tournament 3 is awesome, but as stated above, finding a decent server is quite hard.

Looking towards the future, the latest installment of Counter Strike will be out next year (on all platforms), which promises to be as awesome as always, and if you're a PC or PS3 player, cross-play!
And one other future release to be looking forward to, that is if you own a PS3, is DUST 514. Which is set to be (hopefully) quite a revolutionary game, in that it is set in the EVE Online universe, where you will play as a mercenary hired by a corporation (player run or npc, if I'm right?!) to seize control of parts of planets. But the interesting thing is that both games (Dust 514 and EVE Online) will be interacting with each other, i.e. some EVE ship could lay the smackdown on the battlefield, or you could fire some giant ass laser thing, and destroy a ship in orbit. But look it up if your interested. Again PS3 only...
