No.

No.

No no no no no.

Hell no.

No.

Everything the Elder Scrolls games do right would be ruined by making it an MMO. I do not want to explore Tamriel with 1 billion other twats who all want to kill/loot/teabag me thanks. I also do not want all of Bethesda's time and manpower being used up on one huge MMO, leaving them no room to work on new Elder Scrolls/Fallout RPG's.

I thin it wold be cool.... and it doesn't mean that they still won't continue on with making single player games too. It's such a huge world with lots of lore and different cultures to experience..... just as long as it doesn't become the gear orientated cluster fuck that is WOW.

Seriously, why an Elder Scrolls MMO? I don't recall anyone asking for it.

Oh there has, it's been discussed on this site in forums lots of times. And don't let it bother you dude. IF you don't like it don't play it.

This seems like a rather good fit for the Elder Scrolls series since it already offers the things an MMO tends to like a very large open world and...um...hmm. So anyway, yeah I can see this working rather well for them, TES does have some strong brand recognition. On an unrelated note: Oh hey, so we'll finally see something on Doom 4?

it would be on consoles ? i mean it would right ? Elder Scrolls is on consoles.

there has never been a "breakthrough" console MMO.

its one of those things that everyone knows will happen at some point but simply hasn't happened yet.

this, if true, is a very serious contender.

PS here's my bet for the factions:
Dragons: Dovahkiin led or inspired "rebellion" (possibly including NPC Dragons)
Lions: The Cyrodiil Empire
Bird of Prey: The Aldmeri Dominion
Guild Wars 2 is a one-time purchase MMO coming to consoles at the end of the year.

Dragons didn't exist in the Second Era, they were in the Merethic Era which was before the First Era. The First Era lasted nearly 3000 years and the Second Era lasted nearly 1000 years. The Third Era hosted TES I, II, III and IV; all about 30 years between each other ending in the year 433 thanks to the Oblivion Crisis. 200 years after that lands us in Skyrim for TESV.

So it won't be dragons as dragons hadn't been around in thousands of years, and we're still a thousand years off from TESV.

My guess is that:
The Dragon Faction are the Akaviri Tsaesci, dragon-people from Akavir.
The Lion Faction are the Empire. The emblem for the Empire changes through bloodlines, so in the 2nd Era it wouldn't have been a dragon with a diamond above it (Skyrim logo).
The Bird of Prey Faction are overthrowing elves/rebels of some kind, I haven't the slightest and I've read a lot of lore...

Good News For this: If it is true, it could be somewhat of a good fit, at least with one half of the MMO model.

Bad News: Nobody has ever managed to do an MMO right. An MMO is supposed to be an exercise in allowing comunities to flourish without it becoming a forced option. And it's that "forced option" part MMOs have trouble with.

I left WoW with one thought in mind: getting into a raid is too hard for not much of a payoff. You're luckey if you get a single scrap of equipment from any single raid. It's not worth it.

I often submit that that the best MMO would essentially be somewhere where you can gather matirials, hunt monsters, mine for minerals, build structures, fight enemies and craft equipment for yourself; all without a structured world with things like story and raids tying you to a tedious schedual that amounts to gambling.

Strangely enough, rather than sounding like an MMO version of Minecraft, I'm begining to think that what I want sounds like a RTS, except from the perspective of the units rather than the perspective of the one pulling the strings.

...All that said. I think an elder scrolls MMO might have the slightest complication of not being able to mod it however you want, or otherwise make it exceedingly difficult. And in the end, is that not what the elder scrolls means most to people? A game that although great on its own, gives you the assuerance that you can change it at any time. That is one of the great appeals of The Elder Scrolls.

Honestly, I just wanted co-op so my husband and I can play together without a bunch of people named something like, "XxLizardMater69xX" doing it as well. I'm 'meh' for the MMO idea. Then again, it may depend on how it plays. I'd probably still try it out.

meh, depends on what they do with it.

However, unlike half the internet when they hear stories like this, I will not be ranting and raving, I simply won't buy it.

A lie. Tom Sawyer the CEO of Bethesda said that no matter what they would never create an MMO. These people are there to get peoples attention of themselves nothing more.

It will be an entirely different game and the enchantment, armor, magic, environment, and all other systems will be entirely different as well.

I mean, they have to be. Theres time slowing mechanics and limitless objects and gold and stealing and houses.

There is nothing special about the idea of an Elder Scrolls MMO. The Elder Scrolls world is just another western fantasy setting that has virtually nothing to distinguish itself from D&D, Tolkien, Warhammer, Kingdoms of Amalur, Dragon Age, or Warcraft. The only thing that would be different would be the company that makes it, and there is no evidence that Bethesda can do a strictly "better" job than Blizzard. The difference between single player Bethesda games and MMOs in general (a genre that has seen almost no mechanical changes since Everquest anyway) is really only the control system.
I'm not even going to mention the beast-men introduction that was basicly unheard of other than shapeshifter's(which is a very insignificant number) in Tolkien lore. Or their own unique take on the origins of vastly different cultures within Mer and Men, which is contrasts the whole "elves are enlightened and at the end of their existance" and "men are teh last hopez!". Im not going to mention probably the most significant piece of lore the Elder Scrolls themselves or perhaps even just as important, the Daedra.

But yeah, other than basicly anything that goes into detail beyond "There are men and elves..." i guess it is unoriginal.

Edit: just to clarify, i do agree with you that an ES:MMO is a bad idea (unless Akiviri are involved) but don't call ES lore unoriginal.

I disbelieve this claim. I just don't see Bethesda trying to make an MMO Elder Scrolls. The most we can probably hope for is a multiplayer Elder Scrolls.

Not that I'd want either one. When I Scroll, I Scroll alone. Yeah. With nobody else. You know when I Scroll alone, I prefer to be by myself.
George Thorogood FTW! Awesome, you have my respect.

Also I really hope this rumour is not true, there are enough bloody mumorpugers already! I can't be the only thinking that a certain bioware game may have been a little better if they were not focused so much on a certain mmo... Nasty thought and I'm sorry but there are not enough high quality single player rpgs these days, so lets hope Bethesda does not jump on the 'we can beat WOW' bandwagon.

I don't really mind or care for an Elder Scrolls MMO.

Now if they were to announce something along the lines of say... The Elder Scrolls: Tactics... Yeah, I'd buy that faster than I got my copy of Skyrim(that is really fast).

An Elder Scrolls MMO by Bethesda, well alright just as long as it has the same amount of bugs & glitches as Skyrim oh please count me in.

I'd rather they test with the waters with Co-Op before jumping into a full MMO, we already have enough MMOs, and they're mostly all shit.

The source states that it will take place 1000 years before Skyrim, so we won't be seeing either the Aldmeri (I think) or Dragons.

Except the Imperial Dragon symbol came from when a Tsaesci was in charge of the Empire for the first half of the Second Era. Also during that period there was a major war between the Elsweyr Confederacy (lead by the Mane) and the Aldmeri Dominion (Summerset Isle and Valenwood). This makes me think it might be like this:

Dragon: Empire
Lion: Elsweyr
Eagle: Aldmeri Dominion.

If we do see Elsweyr play a major role, I hope we get to see some of the Khajiit varieties described here [http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Mixed_Unit_Tactics], particularly the horse-sized ones.
