See I don't find it that big a deal, I mean Batgirl may be a super-hero but she's not Batman. Batman's a psychopath, like it or not. He's fucked in the head, just somehow retaining his moral compass, but still he's batshit crazy (no pun intended) whereas Barbara Gordon is, for all intents and purposes still just a normal person who dresses up in costume and fights crime alongside Bats. However, being alone, with a true psychopathic killer like the Joker, having a gun pointed at her head? I dare anyone short of a war veteran, gang member, lifetime inmate, etc. to have a psychotic killer pointing a weapon at them and not be scared witless, perhaps even crying and begging for their life, much good that would do them.
It portrays to me what any real person would experience in a situation like that. Hate me for what I say, I care not but its a poignant reminder that human beings are still fragile creatures and most of us when faced with our own mortality will probably not be as hard as we think we are.
I've had my share of guns pointed at me and my reactions to each of those situations have been a mixture of fear, anger, downright mortal terror and yes even tears. I've seen some fucked up things in life, and still a psycho with a gun to my head would probably scare the living shit out of me, possibly to tears and I don't consider myself an easily scared person. So that original cover, to me is an accurate portrayal and shows that Batgirl is human... Batman on the other hand... I don't think he's human anymore.
