Hi, thread. Nice to see you.

Poor Crytek. This has to be hard on the developers, seeing people pirate their hard work like this. Especially when Crytek are one of the chief "still making games on PC" people.

That's... just... wrong. So wrong.

How could this happen? I don't really care about Crysis as a franchise, but those folks at Crytek must be going berserker mad, suicidal, or anything inbetween right about now. Imagine spending more than two years of your life on a project like this, just to have a likely substantial part of the financial returns go down the crapper because some douche leaked the code.

Get 'em, Crytek. Find out who leaked the code, IP-trace anyone who downloads it, and sue the pants off 'em all.

Even though I'm a PC gamer I would understand if Crytek doesn't release Crysis 3 on PC. This is outrageous.

Crap, that is going to change sales like a ************, it will be interesting to see if it increases sales (through potential buys downloading it) or decrease sales because people already bought it

Someone's probably going to get fired and/or killed for this...
Someone should get killed for this. All that effort and some low life scum does this? Unforgivable.
I can't tell if you are purposely exaggerating or not, but a viewpoint like that is just plain crazy.

OT: Well that sucks quite a bit.

I imagine this was Crytek's reaction.

But seriously, I hope someone gets their arse handed to them. Crytek spent 3 years on this, they diverse every penny.

6 weeks prior to release? Mere letters cannot describe how much I laughed at this.

Also 6 weeks has got to be a record.

And while the guy who caused this clearly deserves a medal for making Crytek live up to the first half of thier name for the umpteenth time, Crytek will probably skin him if they ever find him.

Lol. It's Crysis 2. Warhead was the expansion to 1 (although it would have made an awesome standalone, in my opinion).
First of all it could have been a typo. But it's not. I meant Crysis 3 because Crysis is supposed to be a trilogy. I meant that I would understand if they don't even develop the third game on PC after something like this.

He probably implied that Crytek would consider not releasing an hypothetical Crysis 3 for the PC, in the future.
Edit: Yup.

Anyway this is bad, even for pirates. I mean, of course everyone expected this game to be pirated a couple days after its release if not on release day, but with more than a month until its release... well yeah, I feel like I'm stating the obvious.

I'll be looking forward to seeing sales numbers in a few months.

No, he's saying when they do Crysis 3 he wouldn't blame them if it didn't come out for PC.

I mean, do these fuckers really not get it? Cry all you want about publishers restricting games and not supporting the platform, but if you're going to pirate it you can suck a dick. You're just messing it up for the rest of us.

I take it back, this is bad. Really fucking bad. Like, this is almost as bad, if not as bad as the Half Life 2 leak back in 03.
Worse, that was a leak of the alpha version of hl2 and it wasn't even the full alpha, this is a leak of an entire finished product over a month early.

How can Crytek respond, really?

I feel sorry for Crytek. The DRM part is probably the most damaging thing.

I hope that they will finally make Crysis as big as CoD, and things like this... ehh...

Truly despicable.

I can understand taking the challenge of cracking a game, I can understand why someone copies cracked games, hell, I could even understand someone publishing the security key as a stand against DRM.

But to just take years of work by a group of people, the means to do anything at all with it and the security program that program that protects it and then put it in the public domain is just sheer disrespect.

I know there's no difference legally but I just can't understand the mindset for doing this. I hope Crytek can trace who did this, they deserve whatever they get.

Because game companies rely on sales info from first day/week sales to calculate their successes, it seems pirating is most damaging to sales when it has no competition, as in a game is available to download but you cannot even buy it yet. This actually encourages those who usually don't stoop so low to do so. How many kids these days think 'God I love this game so much, but I don't want to steal it... but I want to be the first to play it!'. I worked at a Gamestop and we would get games a month, sometimes months before they were supposed to come out. They sat in the back room taped up in a box for no reason but to comply with the big release date. I wouldn't blame anyone who pirated those games, especially if they knew we had it but wouldn't sell it to them. It's a really screwed up system that needs to be reevaluated, because it's punishing those who do things the legit way.

If Crysis 2 was out already and most people who wanted it had already bought it, then what ever damage is about to be done wouldn't even be on the radar.
