Oh for the love of...

I just had an epiphany: People blame video games for causing violent tendencies, right? Well, who made the "violence-inducing" games? Human beings. We're violent by nature; video games just let us satisfy our bloodlust without hurting real people.

And f*** you, spell checker, bloodlust is a real word!

Well if I personally met that guy and he said all that to me my reaction would just be:
*light a cigarette* - Meh I don't really care.

PS.

I knew Inifnity Ward was actually owned by Al- Quida and secretly is trying to recruit me.

I've been playing games since I was 7. Mature Games at that. I have NEVER once gotten into a fight in school. Or hit anybody that didn't start something first.

Edit: Sorry, bit of an afterthought here, but just to nit-pick. Since when does playing through a level count as 'plotting' a terror attack on civilians? Was there a section where you actively plan out the attack and hand-off orders to your Russian comrades? If so, went completely over my head.
Yes! Playing a weird level in a game totally counts as if you were telling both real and virtual people to blow each other up in real life!

This totally true fact was brought to you by Jack Thompson.

Tell that to people who have lung cancer, tell them that kids who play M rated video games have it worse than them, go ahead

The problem is that yes, I will concede that kids shouldn't be playing violent video games, but you know what, it isn't the game's fault that the kids are playing them, it's the PARENTS FUCKING FAULT!

There are CLEAR markings on games that give it a rating based on it's content, an explination of what ratings mean, and why the game give the rating, plus more info on their site if I'm not mistaken. Kids who play M games play so because their parents let them play them. 10 year olds can't BUY M games, so any 10 year old playing means the parents let them start playing them. If they don't like it, don't buy them the games. Or if the parents would actually EXPLAIN that it's not real and these things aren't acceptable in real life, maybe there'd be less violence in RL...

It's not games that are the problem, its people who would rather place blame on others rather than take responsibility for their mistakes.

Edit: Who thinks that Natal having you act things out will be a bad idea in the long run? Since in any new Natal FPS you hold a gun like you would in real life, while nowadays we hold controllers and move by pushing sticks and shooting and other things with buttons and not controllers...anyone else think Natal will start a "natal lets kids hold guns so ban video games" movement from in-informed pricks like Micheal Atkinson?

I guess they are right, maybe we deep down are violent people. Now who's up for cracking some anti-gaming heads. I call dibs on the rocket launcher!
Well, now there's a valid point. Are these regulators really sure they want to piss these "violent" gamers off? What are they gonna do if they can't get their cyber-fix of violence.

Who these psychologists and researchers are, what studies they've conducted or which conference they're being "summoned to," as if Australia's Imperial Mage clapped his hands and sent forth his drakes to call the wizards of the council to his dark tower, is never mentioned.
Probably because they are to busy playing Halo!
Anyways all this "rewireing" of a childs brain business is crap...its down to THE PARENTS! they're the ones who have ultimate control of what their child does and plays. Would I let a 10 year old child play MW2 hell no, but i'd still let him play other games.

They're obviously a load of pillocks who, if they don't come up with something to report, will loose their jobs, or their RA is so bad they can't pick up a controller to play themselves!

I've finished now

Well, your username seems to be an appropriate response to the claims in this article.

Two researches on games, both negative, from Australia in such short time?
To paraphrase Gandhi, first they ignore you. Then, they laugh at you. Then they attack you. Then you win.

Right, show of quotes. Who here thinks that Atkinson is paying foundations to come up with this garbage just so he can bolster his case?

I certain do.

Ah. The smell of well spent Australian money.

Uh... guys... as important as videogames are (and I realise how much of a negative impact they have on your society, since at least 15% of videogames can't actually be played in your country)I think you could be spending your time, money and "experts" on something more important. Curing cancer maybe? Just a thought.

In other news the elections are approaching and the Rudd government is doing anything it can to direct attention away from the failed home insulation scheme, including their recent announcement that Australia has never been a larger terrorist target.

Is this really news? I mean, honestly? What, another idiot from the interwebz is shouting about how terrible video games are... Yeah, we've had a few of those. The only thing you're doing is giving this guy a platform.

Wow Australia...just wow

Oh because kids sitting indoors playing violent videogames are more likely to kill/start a fight than the others getting drunk, vandalising or getting high.

Thank you for this now as a 14 year old I know that it is safer to join a gang than play violent video games.

Video games is a frikking outlet for anger and lets you kill without hurting anyone.

Will anyone, other than sensationalist tabloids, trust this as a reliable study?

It mentions very few actual names, saying "experts" rather than "Dr. Smith from the institute of whatever". Therefore, nobody should take this seriously.

Are we basing this off the data that smoking isn't connected to lung cancer because tobacco inhibits the destruction of cancer cells, but isn't actually carcinogenic itself?
that is true but theres a metric shitload of more crap then just tobacco in your average cigarette
Indeed, it's the pesticides they use ON the tobacco that's outright carcinogenic. You sir, have earned this cookie. *Dispenses cookie.*
Is it carcinogenic?

Oh my god! We're all going to die! My love for Dragon Age will lead to me rampaging through the streets with a greatsword, butchering all those in sight!

Sarcasm aside, I doubt that anyone with half a brain would even begin to take this seriously. Apart from that Atkinson prick, of course. Yet another round of ammo for his farcical vendetta...
