Now that we more or less have a date on which all of the mysteries of the Xbox 361 will be revealed, that only leaves us about a month and a half in which to speculate on the technological wonders Microsoft has in store. 4K resolution? Headset-free virtual reality? Sexy anthropomorphisms of both genders to cater equally to whatever a user's filthy kinks might be? Hit the comments and see if you can add anything less likely.
That either of the next gen consoles will actually function as well as a low end PC.
Hah.

For how long though? A year or two?

From the PS4 specs and a rough idea of what the tech is the memory is gonna be the first thing to start throttling the new consoles, the APU in the PS4 is likely pretty good for a budget.
I think the APU in the PS4 (and likely the exact same APU in the next xbox) is well balanced, so nothing will be a massive bottleneck. However, it's not exact fast by todays standards. It is decent for a budget gaming machine though, which is why AMD and Nvidia are supposedly releasing PC component versions of what that APU is (why not after all? more money, and they'll make more profit per part).

Yeah I think it's probably gonna be pretty decent for a budget, which was my point really, it wont be a bad chip at all for a few years and I'm actually looking forward to games using more CPU cores since the thin has 8 we could see some interesting shifts in optimisation.

If the 'always online' rumours are true, I wonder how Microsoft will spin it to make it sound as less damaging as possible.
I'm interested to see, but then who will buy it?

Parents won't because they're afraid of it spying on their kids and crap.

Enthusiasts like those around here won't because we aren't that stupid and we're much more aware of shifts in the market and the way digital distribution through Steam, GOG, Green Man Gaming and such is making PC a more friendly and viable thing for the masses.

So, what, the frat houses? Can you sustain a permanently online console that requires 24-7 monitoring and servers on selling COD and Madden alone? Because I don't really think you can.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out but I'm moving away from microsoft more each day. I'm even playing with ubuntu to replace windows once the gaming scene improves on it.
actually, from what we've been told, you can use the network to spy on what your children are playing

Yes but that's the parents doing the spying. I don't think parents want Micrsoft itself spying on their kids or themselves for that matter.
