The thread really doesn't need to be explained, right? So many dog/cat threads, they dominate the 'net. Well fuck that I say, lets have scaly stuff in the spotlight.
I loved my pet gecko. I had him for about 13 years before he died a couple of months ago. He always had a smug look on his face and loved a scratch on the back of his head. Reptiles arn't for everyone I can understand that but if you like reptiles you will love your pet lizard/snke/tortoise.Johnny Novgorod said:I wonder though how much empathy can there be between a mammal and a reptile.
I'm sure human beings can love pretty much anything, I meant the other way around.ever-vigilant said:I loved my pet gecko. I had him for about 13 years before he died a couple of months ago. There is definitely truth to that. If you are expecting a pet that will become attached to you and show affection, then a reptile is not the pet for you. There is "simulated" affection that you can pass off on being genuine, but in reality reptiles are pretty independent creatures. Two examples on my end. My bearded dragon will lay on my stomach for a long time when I let her out of the cage (that's what she was doing in the photo I took). But I know she likes to hang out there from my body warmth, not due to some kind of attachment. Secondly, she has meal times pinned down pretty well and anxiously watches me when it is nearing time. Then she gets very excited when I get up off the couch and walk next to her cage, running around causing a ruckus. But that is because she is going to be getting food, not an association with me.Johnny Novgorod said:I'm sure human beings can love pretty much anything, I meant the other way around.ever-vigilant said:I loved my pet gecko. The colour is very good in both of those photos, but the second in particular is excellent. I haven't seen an example of a bearded dragon with those vibrant colours before, only faded yellow ones. I notice bearded dragons seem to be fairly popular around these parts; the local pet store always has one or two available. There's something fantastic about their spiky little diamond scales.Private Custard said:I don't own any reptiles myself. But my cousins bearded dragon, Heisenberg, is very photogenic. Point a couple of grands worth of camera gear at him and watch him strike a pose!!
