I'm in a rut right now, I'm very fond of the Sci fi/ fantasy scene (particularly sci fi. I'll provide a list of anime I've seen and absolutely loved, I hope this can help narrow down the list. I'm a young adult male that appreciates dramatic and serious tones. Comic relief must be a side aspect only, and not overshadow the serious tone
Additional requirements and/or restrictions:
Romance / Love plot: This is a big plus and almost required, I'm a sucker for drama especially when its romantically driven =D, however love plots should always be on the side focus or a joint main focus. I'm not looking for an anime that is 100% focused on the relationship aspect. I can make exceptions though, Fullmetal Alchemist was great without one (or barely one)but they seam rare.
Harem: I like love triangles but gender ratios of more than 4:1 female male feels like a dating show that I'm not very interested in. I want to see character interaction focused on a smaller cast but that's not to say that some harems can't pull it off. (SAO bordered harem but the premise was still good and characters were lovable, Stiens Gate has a very lop sided ratio but is still great)
Ecchi: I'm not opposed to this but it's not a requirement either. Sometimes it feels awkward and tacked on other times its an effective way to display character lust or emotion towards one another.
Please no primary hentai, Intercourse is an important issue to tackle and I don't hate that it exists and i appreciate the creative approach for it. However I'm not looking for a porn focused experience unless its a slight amount is added in for dramatic effect (like dragon age and mass effect). The same rules also apply for Yuri and Yaoi. Its rare I will like these animes.
Gundams: As long as they are just on the side, Gundam focused anime are not to my taste
Tsundere Characters: I have a fondness for these characters, while almost exclusively female they are very dynamic characters and despite being a trope feel realistic
Older anime I've absolutely loved are:
Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star
Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Ghost in the shell
High School of the Dead
Anime that I've recently grown very attached to:
Sword Art Online
Steins Gate (this one especially)
Notable Others:
I saw Akira and Spriggin long ago and forget the plot, but not looking to rewatch them.
I did not like Final Fantasy Advent children, I did not like Naruto, I did not like Gantz
Attack on Titan is decent to good
Thanks in advanced for reading this and offering suggestions.
