Several impounded dogs have been shot by a rural council under its interpretation of COVID-19 restrictions.

In order to prevent people from traveling to the dogs, they eliminated the reason for travel by shooting the dogs dead.
Surely there could have been a better solution than this?

There could be a basic principle here that if animals cannot be kept to a minimum standard of care, they need to be put down. If covid meant these standards could not be met, it would be an appropriate thing to do.

However, we might certainly question whether sufficient attention was paid to investigating other mechanisms to ensure a minimum standard of care if the normal processes were disrupted.
