Finally... *picks up rifle and resumes hunt for mosquito in his living room*

Yeah, screwing with Mother Nature may not be very smart, but I approve of anything that helps me not wake up to find 10 new mosquito bites on me, not to mention trying to sleep with a mosquito buzzing an inch away from your face.

I wholeheartedly support this. The day these accidents of nature go extinct will be a happy one indeed.

YEEEEEEES!

HAHAHAHA, FUCK YOU MOSQUITOES, YOU'RE FUCKED!

*Ahem* More seriously though, I hope this doesn't fuck nature up too much. Why don't they do this on the tick though? From what I gather those things are just fucking useless.
Well according to QI there is a species of European Boar that require Ticks in their breeding process... how this makes any sense I dont know, maybe the Ticks run some sort of Boar dating service.

Ah, shit. But don't worry, I'm sure the butterflies can kick in and take over the dating service.

Provided that the animals that eat mosquitoes will adapt to eat different food, so I say go for it. I hate mosquitoes. And malaria.

Wouldn't it make more sense to make them stop itching us and give them some viagra ?

10 years later mosquitos no longer itch and we already have shots and treatments for most diseases they can transmit.

Wiping them out seems far more dangerous then the risk they pose transmitting anything.

This already happened to King Kong. Why do you think there are no other giant monkeys around?

This can only be an ill omen. Every time human beings fuck with nature bad things happen.
I don't know about that. Using that phrase broadly, one could say all medicine and surgery was fucking with nature because it's saving people who 'should'(if not for medicine/surgery/etc..) have died.

Granted, I say this while scratching myself from all the mosquito bites I'm getting because I can't find the fucker in my room.

I support this research for purely selfish reasons.

Ok, that wasn't what I meant. When I said "fuck with nature" I meant like messing around with ecosystems and stuff.

This is a travesty. They are removing a huge foodsource for birds and other creatures. This must break some global laws, if it doesn't it should. And they should all be burnt on the stake (Just for dramatic effect).

I hate mosquitoes, but have they done ample research on the effect on the ecosystem? They better start small scale then wait a few years to monitor what happens.

Domesticating animals doesn't count? Breeding plants (corn, bananas, etc) to drastically change them for consumption doesn't?
Not every case destroys things, those are just the ones you hear about and think about most.

Anyway, as long as they don't instantly make this a world wide thing, they will have plenty of time to monitor the effects.

What right do we have to wipe something out because we dont like it?

Sure, mozzies kill a fair few people every year, but that's nature's population control. We already have far too many people in this world and yet we keep breeding without thought to lessening our impact on the environment. And now we are going to royaly fuck with it?

We have no right to arbitrarily kill something simply because we dont like it.

People die.

It's nature.

Get over it.

Mosquitoes are a food source for some animals, bats for example. It might be rather nice but I wouldn't consider doing this in any sort of place where the mosquito is a natural part of the ecosystem. Now if the mosquito is an invasive nonnative species to an area ya this is likely a good idea.

uh............

Aren't mosquitoes...like...super important to the food chain? Doesn't every single baby frog/amphibian and bird species feed almost exclusively on those things when they are babies?

.....That...can't be a good thing to screw with.

I could point out how forests were destroyed to make room for farmland for your bred plants, but I'm fairly certain you already know damn well what I meant.
