I downloaded it, played it, hated it, I'm sorry but this game isn't for me, what did it was you can't move while shooting, melee does little(your punch does better than the knife), and using both trigers to fire a wepon is bullshit, any game with guns should have hip fire and this one does not.

It is pretty much exactly the same as RE4, except the graphics are prettier, your partner can actually use a gun, when you open your attache case it no longer pauses the game, and you're killing infected Africans instead of infected Spaniards.

Oh yeah, and you still can't move whilst using a gun. I was really hoping they'd let you do that in this one, but alas, they did not.

Played co-op with a friend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The co-op elements work really hard, and even though me and my friend are seasoned RE players, we were surprised by the difficulty, but not to the point where we were frustrated, tough, but fair.[

Well I can understand not liking the type of gameplay that RE5 has, its an acquired taste. This one seems like a very faithful sequel to RE4, the controls follow the same logic as the last one.

Same old argument. "It's Resident Evil, it's always been like this." Bullshit. Just because it's always been the same, doesn't mean they can't change it. The only reason they kept the whole not moving while aiming thing is because the AI is shit and the game would be way too easy. As it stands, while it's a good game and I'll still be getting it, it feels like a step backwards from Dead Space.

It appears to be a good action game, but I'm personally not a big fan of RE's new approach.

I preferred RE 1, 2, and 3, simply because of the tense atmosphere and slow paced horror. I remembering feeling dread everytime I opened a new door in the mansion; the zombies were slow and haunting, which was the ideal RE experience for me.

Resident Evil's aiming style has always been the same, but I do believe movement whilst aiming should be implemented. RE is taking on a more run and gun style, and the controls should reflect that.

Me and my friend we're playing it all day yesterday, I absolutely love it, because we're die-hard fans of Resident Evil we kept on going and took out both sub-bosses the first time!

Sheva is actually a lot better than I thought, especially with the co-op jump scenes and her X moves. Chris is a beast! I played as Sheva all the way though.

Unlucky for all them with the PS3, they didn't get the Demo!

Have you ever played a Resident Evil or what? If this game was like the same old crap you get in Halo and Call of Duty it wouldn't be the same, I'm guessing you got killed by the first zombie you went up against, don't judge a game because you don't like the system, stick to your lousy games where you shoot from the hip.

Agree with you there. Admittedly, i haven't played through a RE title from start to finish, so flame me on that. I can also see that they want to conserve a certain gameplay style so that old fans of the series won't be disappointed, and that being limited in your actions can add to the game's thrill. However, if a zombie slowly walks away from you and you have to put away your knife in order to catch up the two or three steps he made, just to ready your knife again in the hope he's not walked any further by the time you can actually hit him is a bit ridiculous. While i don't want to change the gameplay to run&gun, being able to walk _slowly_ while attacking wouldn't destroy the game's feel and remove an artificial and unrealistic handicap.

Zombies.

Zombies don't need great AI. The stop and shoot is to make you feel less invulnerable. We are not talking about the old 'pivot & pray' resi style. R4 is still one of the best action games out there.

...no, it's because it's a GAMEPLAY style that is synonymous with the game and fits the genre rather perfectly.
I know it's synonymous with the game, but it makes the game feel dated and less fun.

Funny, I thought they were Ganados, not zombies. And if they were the running "zombies" as promised by the first trailer, not the walk slowly towards you with an axe "zombies" that we actually get, the ability to move slowly while aiming wouldn't make me feel invulnerable at all.

And RE4 is in my top 10 games of all time, but I expected improvement, not a Hi-Def rehash.

There are a number of problems with Resident Evil 5:

The camera is horribly placed. The entire left peripheral side of your view is not shown at all, moreover, the character obscure a lot of the view. Gears of War has a similar problem but handles it much better because the cameras is a lot more flexible.

The fact that you cannot move while shooting is very frustrating. While it may be difficult to move and shoot in real life, the fact that the enemies are constantly coming for you makes the issue a significant problem.

The AI is very poor. As the enemies have one overriding behaviour, to move towards you regardless of their situation it is hugely limited. They do not think to flank or out- manoeuvre you, to overcome this some zombies seem to drop in from specific parts of the map to make you feel like you are being surrounded. Running to another corner immediately omits this effect.

Furthermore, regarding the AI, the enemies will run towards you which is quite intimidating but just before they get to you they have this bizarre method of slowing to a meandering walk. I can't imagine there's much point to this other than to compensate for the poor controls. They lack any sort of unpredictability, something which Resi 4 did a lot better.

The interactive elements are weak. You don't feel like you're being attacked by zombies. The guy with the chainsaw will run up to you, pause, then swipe. By that time you've been able to run far away. In Resi 4 the chainsaw guys would come up behind you, you would know that they were there but not how close. Once they got close that was it game over.

The two character system. By having two characters almost all sense of horror is lost. It becomes much more of a co-op action game than a survival horror.

Despite all these weaknesses, the game is fun in it's own way. I personally look forward to playing it through in co-op mode. I just don't expect it to be anywhere near game of the year.

Just before I start I want to make a statement of opinion:

Resident Evil 4 was slow, uninteresting and caught in two minds about exactly what sort of game it wanted to be. It barely caught my interest (let alone held it) and I can see know creditable reason why it garners the levels of praise it does.

However, in the small but significant changes that are apparent in the brief demo they seem to be on the right track to resolving the issues.

I was expecting bad and I got good, very good, looking forward to playing some co-op and usually I can't be bothered with that shit.

Oh, and as much as I've tried to ignore the above bickering I just wanted to say that if 'some people' had their way every game would be identical - and what would be the point in that exactly?
You don't like the way a game plays? Fine. Don't buy it. But that doesn't mean it's broken.

I'm downloading it now! I'm at work, but I'll be playing it tonight.
Never played ANY RE (Never had a console until Xbox), so this will be a blank slate for the series.

Seeing as I was a big fan of Resident Evil 4, I was looking forward to playing this. I was always expecting a mere update to it, with pretty graphics, a new setting, and a continuation of story. from the look of the demo, this is what we'll get, and I like the idea. Resi 4 was easily one of the better games of the last generation (despite the fact that some people on this forum didn't seem to gel with it). The Co-op is fairly cool (replacing Ashley from 4 with some flippy shooty woman is probably a good move), and it feels fairly difficult, which is always good. Very much a new incarnation of the previous titles, and I think they've kept out all the things that would have made it just another zombie game (Shooting from the hip just wouldn't be Resident Evil now, would it.)

I think it's fair to judge a game by its 'system'. It's the control of and the gameplay that are major factors in people's view of a game.
