It seems like the entire movie series has been trying to force-feed the new Alice character into the storyline, and she's been hogging the spotlight and forcing the games' main characters into supporting roles.

Why didn't they just cast Milla Jovovich as Jill Valentine to start with? That could've worked all right.

If I hadn't seen the other resident evil movies and knew nothing about them, but still had played the games I probs would've struggled to guess that was a Rez movie....
For the short time that I saw zombies they were running, which aint what I like to see (unless its in spain, NOT AFRICA xD) And if the writers are gonna finally take a few more tips from the game (by this I mean add in some of the monsters and characters) then why resident evil 5?
That was the worst resident evil game in my opinion where they managed to ruin the character of Wesker and destroy the last little remains of what was The Story line!
But then again, maybe I am just trying to be negative cause I didn't appreciate the other films =) (the first one wasn't bad)

Considering the games didn't get good until they said, "Screw it" to the story and mechanics of the first three games. Maybe that lighting will strike twice for the movie...

I doubt it, but maybe...

Oh god. Complete nerd rage. Interesting that a lot of people posting in this forum are only leaving enough info that could easily fit into a twitter...

Who cares about the story contents? As far as i care, its basically its own movie premise but with the Resident Evil logo slapped on. Would there be as much flaming if it had carried the original Biohazard name? Or the bad guy was called Parasol instead of Umbrella?

Scrub away the RE greasepaint and all you get is another generic action-horror clown. You shouldn't be looking for a ground-breaking movie that stemmed from a ground-breaking game - you should just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

(Also the music in the trailer was awesome. Thanks for pointing it out, Scrumpmonkey.)

If that was Wesker then thats the only reason I'm seeing it. However Milla whatsherface is a pretty shitty actress, after Dazed and Confused her acting career should have gone where it deserves to be, the shitter.

Well, as the only person in the world who actually really liked the first three movies, I'm excited for this one. I noticed a surprising and unsettling lack of zombies, though...
Actually, I'm the second peron in the world. And I agree with your comment. Though to be honest, I really wish that Afterlife was bringing back Jill Valentine. Milla is great, and so is Ali Larter, but Sienna Guillory beats both of them in terms of hotness and kickassness (not taking Alice's psychic powers into account from Extinction...). Plus, I loved the setting for Apocalypse, Raccoon City really made that film, so I wish they'd return to that sort of setting too.

Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to the release of Afterlife :D. The trick is to see the films as being completely seperate to the games. Comparing seperate continuities of things to their source material (when they are actually meant to be different), always disappoints, yet sadly people always do it and refuse to give things like this a fair chance... :(
Number three. I treat them as separate entities as well... "Resident Evil" is the film series, "Biohazard" is the game series (that's a bit difficult in the US, but whatever). Odds are it won't win any awards, but it still looks to be a roaring good time at the cinema. I wouldn't be too concerned about the lack of zombies in the trailer...this was mostly to show off the 3D technology used.

kill 99% .
that is an unfounded complaint.

the apocalyptic nonsense was an accident.
What does that have to do with my point. My complaint was the fucked up the entire world. They didn't just kill most of the population, they messed up the ecosystem and killed off or changed (not for the better if the T-virus was involved) god knows how many species so why the hell are they researching Las Plagas?

Look. The reason Umbrella was researching the T-Virus (and the G-Virus, the Progenitor Virus and every other virus) was for biological weapons research. (There were also plans for its use in medical research but the bio weapon capability was their big thing.) That much carried over from the games. This meant they planned to develop and sell them as weapons. Whether or not they meant to cause an apocalypse is not the point. Practically everyone is DEAD! There is no point to continue that line of research if there are no buyers. So why are there Las Plagas? They serve no practical value towards medical research, there is no point in weapons research, and from the trailer it seems that they still have plenty of solders who are quite loyal to the only people keeping them from the zombies.

I can only think of two reasons why Umbrella would be involved with Las Plagas.

1. They are holdover from past experiments. Maybe another section was researching the Plagas was the T-Virus research was going on. The race to make the first usable B.O.W. Not that farfetched. The military has done similar in the past. However that would make them predate a fair amount of T-Virus research. Also not big problems since the movies have long stopped caring about the games storyline. I still don't get how they would end up in combat though.

2. The Las Plagas were discovered and they want to use them to control the zombies. This could easily tie into my first point. However it being newly discovered helps explain why they were never mentioned beforehand. (Though that could easily be explained away by ?It wasn?t important enough for screen time but they did discuss it.?)

Or it could be RE 4 and it only remotely connects to Umbrella because there the only other humans alive.

[Edit] I spend WAY to much time thinking about crap like this.

Remember Resident Evil: Degredation.
That was a good movie.
Degeneration wasn't what I'd call an Oscar-worthy effort, but in terms of faithfulness to the source material, Degeneration is a Porterhouse steak in comparison to the live-action movies' catshit souffle.
I agree.

This whole 3D thing they have out there right now, is it the new big gimmick that all movie makers will be using? I mean, are they using it because it looks better in 3D or that they simply based the movie around as many (as the aforementioned) 3D objects flying towards the viewer as they can get?

Heaven help us if Michael Bay decides his Baysplosions are better in 3D.

I'm looking forward to it. Not that I believe the movies are the best in the world but Alice kicks ass.

I don't give 2 shits about 3D, but this movie looks like another "balls-to-the-wall" action movie that won't be worth seeing, but that's just my opinion.

I was interested by the appearance of it all at first...then the Matrix universe suddenly merged with the Resident Evil movie-verse.
