the woman named Eryn told about improvising torchs. David didnt think it was a good idea. I could stop myslef to reply : "Anyway walking with an open flame into a labs that could be filled with propane from broken lab burner, it's not a good idea." and then whispering "way to go, genius"
David ordered us to cut the bodies down. Both team started to do it, but not in a very collaborative way. after taking a body to the floor i decided to take a cell sample for further analysis. i took my scalpel and a sample bottle of of my side pocket to get a nice sample.
I was happy that I got rescued and even happier that everyone was alright. I turned to the captain. "Sir" I said "What is the situation? I've been gone."
Eryn looked at the woman after the comment that she made. "Well at least I had an idea. Also if you have something to say say it to my face and not under your breath." Eryn could already tell that she and Nathalie were not going to get along.
She was told to cut down the bodies by David and did so much to her discontent.
I was still mad at the Squad A because of their remarks when we first arrived. What they were complaining about, they didnt watched their friend being eaten alive. As i were on my knees to cut samples i heard in my back Eryn saying something about telling what i wanted to say in her face next time. I took my time to finish my sample, get up and went next to Eryn. just to be sure that David and Covington wouldnt hear me.
"Sorry kid, but just try to not have ideas, i dont think it's you Squad's job to use their brain. Unless it's to feed those beasts of course..."
Eryn looked over at David and Covington and saw that they were talking. She turned back to Nathalie. She spoke in a quiet voice so she couldn't be heard by anyone but Nathalie. "Obviously my squad has to use their brain. You guys aren't smart enough to. If you were then half of you wouldn't be dead."
Eryn stood up and went to help Aileen bring down another corpse that was hanging from the ceiling.
I decide to open the lab door. We've waited long enough. The whole group was here, we could enter. I walked up to the valve on the door and twisted it open, I turned my torch on and looked inside.
My artificial light swept over what looked like a normal reception room. There was a desk with some computers, a timetable, and two doors. I stepped in. The room looked untouched, everything seemed in order, apart from the pitch black. I gestured the squads in, Covington took to my side and the rest followed in. Dmitri closed the door behind us, we didn't want anything to follow are trail. I tried a lightswitch that was on the wall, and to my suprise, it worked. That wasn't meant to happen. I walked to one of the doors and opened it, I leaned in just enough to reach the lighswitch. The lights in that room worked as well. Something weird was defenitely(?) happening. If there was power in the labs, why were all the lights off? It was almost as if someone had gone around turning all the lights off...
"I don't think we're going to see many undead around here, someone's been turning all the lights off." I said. The two teams looked puzzled, rightly so, as I was puzzled too.
as i bring down the last corpse, i heard Eryn speak to me. I was totally furious. I tried to pushed her, but i only started the motion and stopped. David were calling us to enter the lab. i spit at Eryn feet. "You have been lucky so far kid..." and went to rejoin the team at the door.
we followed Covington and David inside the complex. Everything was clean. Something wasn't right. why did they abandon the place then ?
David flick a switch on and the light went on to my surprise. why there was power there ? I went to the computers to look for clue. if the lab reports up there was incomplete, i guess maybe there was more complete reports here...
Eryn felt the spit hit her boot. She clenched her fist and held her self back from punching Nathalie. She knew that sooner or later her and Nathalie would fight. But for now David called the team over.
David opened the door and the team entered the room. It was spotless. Someone had definantley(?)been there. Eryn saw Nathalie go to the computer to see if there were any files on it.
Eryn examined the file cabinets. She found a red folder. She read over it quickly. All it showed was the name of test subjects and the result of injecting them with something.
"Hey guys look at this." Eryn walked over to the group with the folder in her hand.
The reply was delayed, possibly a signal problem, they were underground. Kyle and I paced at a fast speed, Eric struggling to keep up.
"Did one touch you Eric, Did you get bitten?" I kept asking Eric, phscologically reasurring myself he was okay.
"If we take a right and then a left, we should be there." We turned to face ten or so of the creatures. They looked pu at us and groaned. I handed Eric a Glock and we shot at the things. Blood fell over the corridor, more were coming...
"Oh come on you son of a-" I said amost angrly. I wanted to get back to the captain as fast as possiable, being sepreated from him for this long was not a good thing. Even worse was the fact that we hadent been getting any raido support from both H.Q. and also from others in the squad. "Leave us alone damnit!!!!" I shouted and pulled out a second glock that I had taken off a dead police officer not long after we had goten to Eric. We kept fireing and after the fire fight stoped, we went to assess the damage. It was nice to see that Rick and Eric were getting along. I desided that it was time for somthing fun to break up the slience from other people. "Well guys if we survive this i'm takeing us out for a round on me, Hell i'll buy the whole goddamn bar if we make it out of this alive!" I knew that it was kind of inapropraite but little things like that made all the diference in a situaition like this.
There were more of them. The soldiers seemed to be multiplying. The sad part is that they werent working together on this. If they ever wanted to survive theyd have to work together, but I just held my tongue and waited silently while we moved.
I thought about our situation for a while, in an underground lab, undead monsters outside and all the lights switched off.
"I'm going to couple you up and send you out to turn the lights back on, keep your eyes out for anything interesting along the way. Eryn and Nathalie(Oh no he didn't!) go through that way, Covington, would you go with Dmitri?" He nodded, even though we were of the same rank he knew what I was doing and agreed to it." Thomas and you(from now on, anyone adressed as "you" is a member of B-Squad), Jason and you."I can't be bothered with this, it's like picking people to be on my team at school."The rest of you just couple yourself up with someone," they nodded."I'll wait outside for Rick, Eric and Kyle." The teams went out to do their job.
Left alone, I had time to think. Why didn't H.Q answer? We weren't that far underground,the storm had stopped, it's almost like they're blanking us. Dear God I hope no-. At that moment a young girl burst through the lab door, my MP5 went straight into her face. She pulled her pistol out and I felt it against my groin. I smiled, checkmate. I lowered my gun.
"Hello there, what's your name? I'm just waiting here for the rest of my team that are outside, would you like to wait with me?" She nodded.
We waited for a few minutes in an uncomfortable silence. I'd been trying to engage her in conversation, but to no avail. And then the banging started. It sounded like someone was hitting metal on metal. Then the door opened, and a naked man came through the door.
"Manny porp awanny gobbles!"
"What?"
"Biddy pooly?"
"I'm sorry, I don't understand you," his face then turned into a mask of infernal rage. His lips curled back to show a mouth of filed teeth. He ran at me with his metal bar held high and I shot him twice, one bullet hole appearing in his stomach and the other sending brains fly from the exit wound on the back of his head. I stared at his body for a while, I guess we know who made that altar. I pulled my radio from my belt,
"I've just encountered something new, I've just had to kill a crazy man. Look out, he was pretty noisy so you should listen carefully as well. There could be more out there, so watch out." I got a chorus of acknowledgements in return through the radio.
All I had to do now was to wait for Rick, Kyle and Eric.
I'm not going to be here from 5PM this afternoon(GMT) till sometime next Monday, I've set the story up so you can carry on, please use crazy men from now on, a few zombies, but not too many. Just carry on turning lights on and finding Lab reports.
We reached the door, everyone was cowded around. The bodies above were starting to smell, rotting flesh sitting in the air. The door had been opened, A thing lay on the floor, dead, a metal bar near his face.
"What happened here?" I said and awaited a reply.
I was looking into the computer files. Lab reports again. But nothing seemed critical. For what i could see they were working on viruses, but there were no detail. Probably that what i was looking at was the failures.
Eryn came back with a file with some papers in it. She's was looking so happy to have found them. I stood up and went to see what she have found., i took a quick look.
I look at David and Covington.
"It's a list of their subject names. But the only thing it told us is that they injected something into 25 persons, and if it worked or not."
then i turned back to Eryn
"But unless you can tell me what substance #54328-b is, and what it was suppose to do, it's worthless. i found similar files on the computer. What do you expect, that they keep super secret research details on a paper file left on a table's corner ?"
Then back to David :
"Sir, if we are to find something, it will probably be crypted, or at least password protected. We have to look for files like that and anything could tell us what the password might be. Back at the base, my computer also use finger print or magnetic card as password, so we may look for bodies, or cards too..."
David said that i had to team up with Eryn. what ??!!
i didnt not object. i had enough army experience to know what an order is. i looked at Eryn, and pointed a door.
