My favorite band is Clutch [http://pro-rock.com/v6/main.html], and I believe that it is a travesty that they are not better known. Their music is amazing - they have a singular groove/funk/metal sound, sounding almost like a completely different band from album to album and even song to song. Their technical ability is amazing (they have an instrumental alter-ego band called The Bakerton Group which is nearly as good). The lyrics are layered and thought-provoking. And they work their asses off, touring almost constantly. I strongly recommend that you give 'em a listen.

I would have to say either Within Temptation or Nightwish. While they are popular over in Europe, they haven't gotten too popular over here in the states.

Sweet - always a pleasure meeting fellow C! fans. You hear about the new album dropping on July 7th? Can't wait - I'll probably write a review on it.

The only thing I have to contribute to this thread is:

The title of this thread is too vague. What does "Respect please" tell me about the content of the thread? Nothing. When I came here, I was expecting either a person requesting that his/her beliefs be respected, a question as to why people tend to disrespect other people's beliefs, or the title being a rule/intro for a controversial topic.

Not a music thread.

Also, your use of "artist" alone is inappropriate here, as your thread seems to be exclusively about musical artists.

Bait n' switch, vdgmprgrmr. No offense, but did you make your name intentionally hard to spell? >.>

-dBu music
-Did I mention Voltaire?

I don't know that many, but I'd have to say The Mountain Goats. They're kind of famous, but (in the area I live) only the emo kids know of them.

I'm looking up some of these bands, by the way. So keep them coming.

Baiting and switching should be punishable by 30 lashes. It is at the peak of non-violent assholiness!

Also, nope. I made the name vdgmprgrmr as a vowel-less version of "videogame programmer," because back when I made this account, I was absolutely sure I had reached the level of skill in programming that could be called full-on programmer of videogames. (I was pretty much wrong, but the nagging feeling that I had made people think I was something I wasn't encouraged me to actually attain that skill level, sort of.)

So, no, not made with being hard to spell in mind. It's actually pretty easy to type out, because the way the keys are arranged (at least on the QWERTY keyboard) involve one pattern (vdgm) that can be tapped out with three characters on the left hand, then one on the right, all in a natural path, then the next part (prgrmr) can be rendered by keeping a single finger on the R key, and doing a quick alternating pattern with the other available fingers.

Yes, when the OP says, "...popular artists in the world of music today..." the topic would generally refer to...well...music artists.

Plenty of local bands don't get the recognition or fame they deserve, just because they don't know the right people.

Peachcake is great live.

Authority Zero (Although they have gotten kind of big lately) is a great band, but very few people know about them.

On a different note, Crass should have gotten more respect then they did.

No worries, we all misread things every now and then. And there's always the 'EDIT' button to correct mistakes.

Tom who? Muahahahahha!

But anyway...almost no one knows who were the Traveling Wilburys. A rock group that had George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan in the same band!
OMIGAWD TRAVELING WILBURYS

...Sorry about that. It's just so rare to see someone who knows of them. They are indeed awesome sauce.

They may be pretty well-known, but around my neck of the woods only one other person knows about Death Cab for Cutie or The Postal Service.
