Anyone here younger then 25 still play games that were made before you were conceived. I'm 14 I'm supposed to be a part of the MTV/CoD degenerates, BUT I'M NOT see, i grew up playing old consoles it started with Tomb Raider when I was 3 then my dad gave me consoles "Retired" into the attic including the ZX Spectrum, with Dixie and Zork along with a Snes that had games like Shadowrun and Killer Instinct. I later got an Original Xbox but even then i still could not resist the alure of Starfox "ill fucking barell roll your head you stupid Dog-Twat" now i know way more about Video Games then I should (near encyclopedic knowledge) unfortunatly unlike the God amongst men i should be known as i get bullyed and i am branded a nerd i HATE Cod and i hate when the old Veterans of the game world (who i envy for living though the 80's) treat me like a noob....
well thats the rant done and dusted anyone else got any thoughts

I have Mega Man 2. I can't think of a single reason I'd play that rather than Assassin's Creed 2, just to name one example.
You're probably bullied by people like me but not as nerdy. They think the old games are crap and games need to keep moving forward. Well, they don't think like that, they probably think "New game = Good, yes?", but the same logic applies.

Assuming knowing stuff about games makes you awesome is probably another factor you're getting picked on. I'm trying not to be rude here, but I can't think how you got the idea it would make you cool.

I play alot of new game, but I still play my older games on occasion.

In order of how much I love my consoles:
N64 > DS > Wii > 360

I will be more depressed when my N64 dies than when my parents die, lol.
The fact will always be: older games will always be better than newer games.
I love playing Reach, SC2 is awesome, and Diablo 3 will consume my soul for a few years, but all of those games came after other original games.

Goldeneye is still one of my most favorite games of all time, FF1 is still one of my favorite RPGs, and I still can put 100+ hours into playing Pokemon Red.

I don't mind people that enjoy new games more than the classics, but what I loathe, is people who say each new game that comes out is "the greatest game ever".
I'm sure you've seen these people before, and probably know a few.

"ZOMG BLACK OPS! THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER ZOMG"
'Didn't you just say that about MW2 when it came out?'
"But Black Ops is better than MW2 in every way!"
'...so you've completely forgotten about MW2, and how good it was?'
"Yeah man! Who even cares about MW2 anymore?!"

While FPS games are usually a case of: new game = old game + 1, RPGs can rarely be ousted.
If you told me after playing FFIX, that FFXIII is the best FF you've ever played, I would have to hit you... and I don't know when I'd be able to stop...

I remember when MTV wasn't just shitty reality TV shows.
Those were the days... They do still play music though! Granted, it never changes for about a month and even at that the change is only very minor.

"A gentleman never tells."

Just enjoy your knowledge, getting other people involved in a hobby is very difficult if they don't want to, even more so if you pressure them with your experience. I can understand you (a bit, I guess), being marked for my enjoyment of video games beyond what was currently in style. But you wouldn't really like a "CoD degenerate", as you put it, to go on and on and on about how he pwns n00bs daily and nightly, right?

Oh, by the way, I'm currently enjoying FF VI and Ninja Gaiden(NES) to bits, again :D

Gee I wonder fucking why.

My work here is done.

OT: Unfortunately I only grew up with my PS1 from about the age of five and loved it. Towards the end of the PS2 era when new games slowly stopped coming out I began to drift back to old PS1 games. One thing that really saddens me is the fact that there are so many games being released in this console generation that I barely that a chance to play my childhood favourites anymore. What makes it worse is the fact that my PS2 is dying and I own a 360 so I'm lucky to play some Timesplitters: FP on my friends PS3.

Well, I started out on a PS1 at like 4 years old, with the help of a mother who's been gaming since the Commodore 64. So I certainly learned to respect the classics. At 16, my favorite games are either early PS2, or stuff old enough that I need an emulator to play them, depending on my mood. Damn, do I ever love me some Super Mario World, or some of the more obscure PS1 titles. My current muse is this crazy Japanese game called "LSD Dream Machine"

Yeesh. =S I think this might be your problem right here. It seems like your attitude could use an adjustment. You seem to have the classic 'I am so awesome, why have they not made me their God?' mentality. Get over it, and you will be a happier person.

Enjoy your old games and consoles, perhaps try to introduce your friends to older stuff (in a nice way) and have fun with it, but your 'encyclopaedic game knowledge', like 'encyclopaedic' knowledge of anything, should be meted out in fun little facts on appropriate occasions, not in floods for which you expect instant approbation.

Also, yes, I am under 25 and cut my teeth on classics such as Zork and Lemmings etc, but it doesn't make me special. It makes me someone who happens to have played Zork and Lemmings etc.

Nice one. But seriously, you didn't really have a point there. Also you should stop writing big blocks of text in one single paragraph with no punctuation it makes it very confusing and diffiocult to read unless you were trying to convey a sense of anger and frustration by writing like this in which case fair enough but its still not very clear as you can see by reading this anyway next time you create a post calm the hell down so we can understand what you are saying.

Despite the fact that we're sliding into 2011, I still play MUDs. You just don't get that kind of customizeability in other online games.

My ten year old sister plays a lot of PS2 (in my room) and N64 games (on emulator) and perfers them over today's games. Same with my brother.

Utter bullshit.

That irritating nostalgia is flaring up again. There were a ton of crappy older games. (E.T. anyone?)

Hell look at the Prince of Persia series. Who would rather sit down through the horrible mess that is Prince of Persia 3D than play Sands of Time?

Old ≠ Good

Good = Good
