Aww shit! It's Morsomk's first thread. I wonder what novelty of literature(or swirling maelstorm of chaos) will he create?

Here's the setup!
This here Somkmeister(did I just seariously call myself that?) was just cruising along on the internet waves when I found this piece of gem.

Yessiree, it's cod gamers going nuts, how fantastic(not really)! This got me thinking, if we got ourself in a hypothetical situation of where we have the power to actually make these guys chill down in any way we can imagine, what would you do and how would you do it?

I have my own 3 personal methods of doing it.

First
I would tell them this. "Guys, chill the fuck down and eat some Kropp" What, No! Not that kind of Kropp, you...dirty...dirty you!

Second
I would corner them in alleyway and tell them this. "Dude, your behavior in the gaming community is a whole is shameful. That is why I have found the best medicine that will help make you into an outstanding member on the gaming community"

Third
Poof! A cloud of smoke appears in front of them, with me appearing naked in front of them(terminator style aww yeah), I immediately tell them that the future is in danger because of the reckless use of certain words being used in their tweet against David Vonderhaar. People are dying left and right as a cybernetic being known only as "CodNet" is sending out Hyperventilated SuperCoDplayers against Humanity.
The only way of saving us all is if they proceed to digest this special compound that I somehow seem to be carrying even though I am actually naked

Now, you might be thinking to yourself "Morsomk? Why on Earth did you link to us three pictures of a delicious chocolate candy known as Kropp?"

Well that is because you might say that the people on this website are quite Kropp!

But seariously though...lets talk about this kind of behavior in whatever manner we want to(and I would be very pleased in seeing your idea on how to "help" these people") even if it might be filled with humor or seriousness, I look forward to seeing your comment on this situation,

Burn the night away guys!

Joking aside, there really does need to be something done about these kind of people. I'm of the mind that less than 1% of gamers are this way but these assholes are the ones shining a giant spotlight on themselves to everyone, making everyone think that THIS is what a gamer is. These people are not gamers; they're pathetic and completely soil the reputation of every other person who calls gaming their hobby.

The problem is...I don't know what we can do about it.

*Tippy2k2 puts on old man suspenders and prepares to chase a child off of his lawn. Old man Tippy2k2 is getting on his soap box;

Frankly, I think it's this generation (or I should say a small but incredibly fucking loud section of this generation). The generation that has grown up with the mindset that what you say on the internet doesn't count as real life. The people who seem to not believe that saying "I will shoot your family and make u watch" and "You cancer riddled fuck. I hope that your children get raped by some ugly **** with HIV" are wrong because it's the internet and that's what you do on the internet. These are the people who cause such stress with their classmates on Facebook that the classmate decides to end their life.

Honestly, to get rid of this kind of shit is going to take a massive mindset change in internet culture. I don't know how to bring about that change but somehow, people need to be taught that this kind of behavior is unacceptable.

That's quite a debut, Morsomk.

First thing would be to sit them down one at a time and ask how those changes affect them. Then when he gives some dumb answer like "It makes this weapon bad" I'll ask why that matters. If he gives another dumb answer then I'll have the men in white reveal themselves and we'll begin with the turn-of-the-century mental health programs. From what I've seen, electroshock is the least of their worries.

Meh, it's the internet. Screaming moronic bullshit and over the top death threats is a thing some small number do. Honestly, I think they get sucked into it; one person scream outrageous bullshit, and everyone else tries to match or top them. So how would I calm them down? Have them sit face to face with the guy they're screaming at. Problem solved. What, you really think they're going to say this dumb shit to a live person they're looking at?

It's times like these that I sigh and think:
Maybe the world just wasn't ready for the internet

It's really disappointing, the sense of empowerment anonymity lends some people. Also disappointing that people also take anonymous garbage people say seriously.

Hopeful but doubtful. Probably late high school or early college. Sadly. Also if the UK is (whether they where right or wrong to do so is a discussion I don't feel like having) going to imprison that LoL player for far less hateful and directed comments why are these people still roaming the streets?

pfft hahaha, get a load of this dopey cunts tweet:
"UR A FUKIN IDIOT!! I FUKIN HOPE I DIE OF A TESTICULAR CANCER!!" - Dex7eritehh

But seriously, it's sad that such a small thing will incite such mental anguish that they would wish death upon themselves. And in such a painful way too ...

Well as long as you give people a soap box to troll on they will do so, not only that but it's a self perpetuating system where newcomers will do the same because that is what the community taught them, so it is a simple matter of taking undesirables out of the community until they learn the proper code of conduct.

And no I don't mean banning because people just come back with new accounts and troll harder, you need to gradually inconvenience them to a greater extent until they can't be bothered anymore (first offense - silenced for an hour, second - a day, then two days, then 3, 4, ...).
Obviously the most important part is to moderate these things on the spot not leave them for several months until everyone forgets what it's about.

I'd handle this by getting a committee to rate each of their tweets for their over-the-top comedic value.

i hope you die in the gas chambers like your parents did
-7/10

KILL YOURSELF YOUR BALD BECAUSE YOU HAVE CANCER I HOPE YOU DIE ALL ALONE! MAJE A GOOD GAME & U WOULD GET DEATH THREATS!
-8/10. Kill yourself bald? That's got to be a new one.

I will shoot your family and make u watch
-3/10

i am going to kill your family
-2/10

I'd also make sure that each of the committee tweets their ratings back to their inbox.

Fucking Oath! Were these... things raised by wolves? I've played COD online plenty of times and I haven't seen this yet. Yeah, I can see now why people would get offended by that.

Not much you can do except tell the mods to ban them as soon as it happens. That's a punishment that always sticks.

Why are we paying attention to this at all?
Because it's a problem in the gaming community. And as the gaming community it's our responsibility to do something about it. We shouldn't rely on others to police it.

I agree with this sentiment. These people are nothing like me. I have neither the time nor motivation to change that.

This is why I wish there was some global reputation system for not just games but Twitter, FB, Steam, PSN, XBL, everything.

"Hey, there's that ThriKreen fellow, his profile says while he's not an ace, at least he's a solid team player, and good to have around." *invite to team*

"Oops, there's that Kross person telling me to kill myself over Twitter. But from his profile shows he's a troll and no one wants to play with him, so let's mute him and ignore his insults since they don't mean anything."

Granted I realize there's problems with trying to enforce a global system, people want aliases for some anonymity. And we saw the backlash from Blizzard's Real ID snafu. And one could just make a new account, even though you'd be back to rep zero and have to work to increase it again. And others could farm for rep points and exploit it with concentrated attacks.

In the link I see 12 CoD being nasty. That warrants being made a big deal? Furthermore we need to stop generalizing the whole gaming community based on things like this.

Gamers in general DONT.

It is the media and others that see the negative side of gaming and pounce on it like it represents a majority
