That is really nice. I've never seen that level of responsible parenting.

My parents, seeing as though they didn't speak much english, and therefore had no idea what was going on, were fine as long as my uber-genius sister said it was fine. She's a tomboy by the way, so I got Halo and Gta when I was like 6.

When the children were under 10 we were more strict - only supervised Internet access (Well, we were always in the room but no always watching what they were doing) and we were careful with games although at that sort of age they don't necessarily want to play violent games anyway, there is enough violence in the average Tom&Jerry cartoon for a 9 year old! By the time they were teenagers we were more relaxed, not blindly following the ratings but maybe trying a game 1st or reading reviews before allowing them to play it, there were few games that we banned, counterstrike was allowed by the time he was about 13 for example. The only one that was banned until much later was the aforementioned GTA which was not allowed in the house (Although he played it at his friends houses) primarily because of the portrayal of casual violence and treatment of women.

I was a young when I played GTA III and I haven't turned into a serial killer just yet.
Restricting games for 15 years olds is moronic to me.
I work with children and young adults, some of them have attitudes straight out of computer games. Not saying that the computer games are responsible as more of the blame lies with the parents but being screamed at to f*** off by a 13 year old and then being told that I'm going to get stabbed on my way home by him and his mates makes me think that there is some justification in at least making an educated decision regarding age-related games. Not blindly following the recommendations, just taking them into consideration.

I only have stories of irresponsible parenting. One when I was at EB games and a Dad was buying a game for his <10 year old son, I didn't see the name of the game, but the clerk told the dad the game was MA15+ and the Dad exclaimed "There are ratings for games?" /facepalm. This is why the Attorney General didn't want R18+ ratings in Australia, because most parents don't know about ratings for games.
