I've been out of RPing on here for quite some time. For those who know me, howdy. For those that don't...howdy anyways.

This story is fairly simple, on the surface. It takes place 50 years after the events of Mass Effect 3. Synthetics and the mass relays are back in action, but the synthetics are no longer threatened by sentient species. It's a good time. Well, except for the fact that the criminal element is still out there. One of those criminal elements has set off a bomb near the Council chambers, though fortunately, none of the members of the Council were injured. Despite that, several innocents were caught in the blast, as well as the not-so-innocent, but terribly unlucky bomber. Problem is, the bomber was marked with the insignia of a gang that had faded into obscurity. And on the omni-tool of the bomber, one message was found intact..."The Sun will rise again."

Well, after fifty years, there are quite a few changes. The main one is that there are quite a few Spectres. However, the Spectres are not given free reign anymore. After all, look what happened to Saren. Instead, Spectres are allowed to use whatever means necessary, but only within a certain area. The galaxy is split up into 7 segments, based on what species is the main population of that sector (human, turian, asari, salarian, krogan, or quarian). Each Spectre is ordered to patrol each section, but not beyond that, other than the Citadel, which every Spectre reports to, but is only patrolled by another group of Spectres.

This one big change has resulted in several smaller, but still important, changes. First, investigations done between sectors are a bit trickier, requiring coordination between Spectres. The biggest change, however, has only started occurring within the last 10 years. With each sector populated by certain species, you want to be able to have the investigating be done properly. After all, it wouldn't be easy for a salarian to get a straight answer from a krogan, or vice versa. For that reason, and in a decision with mixed popularity, some krogans and quarians have been granted Spectre status. Of course, it's not an easy job, even compared to that of other species, but it is still progress.

Another change is rather simple. 50 years after taking back their homeworld, albeit with a bit of a delay in taking advantage of that fact thanks to the fact that the geth were destroyed, some younger quarians have developed a healthier immune system. Not enough to be unsuited permanently, mind you. But a ruptured suit is no longer a death sentence, and suits can even be fully removed in generally sterile environments.

The rules are pretty much the same as most RPs. No godmoding, no trenchcoating, etc. There is one last rule I'd like to add, however. There is one Spectre. That is my character. It's not that I have something against other characters being heroes. In fact, I'd imagine that could be a source of conflict in-character. But with the whole "Spectres have one sector to patrol", trying to figure out jurisdiction is a bit of a headache.

However, there is another thing I want to point out. You know how the parties in most games get along fine, with no conflicts? I'm not expecting that in this RP. Within reason (no killing off other characters without permission, and even with permission, expect serious in-game consequences), act as your character would. I'm not interested in telling you what you can or cannot do. But expect realistic consequences for your character's actions.

If you are interested, please let me know. I'll put up a sample character sheet with what I am looking for. I'm going to stick with a group of 8 or so to begin with, although more might join later, depending on how the story goes.

Name: Sera'Zarda vas Citadel

Age: 28

Gender: Female

Species: Quarian

Description: Sera is fairly tall, with a lean muscular build. Her armor is dark blue, with a lighter blue visor. She has curves, but not to a ridiculous degree. She's a Spectre, not a model.

Weapons (two per character, or more if you take away an ability): pistol, SMG

Abilities (three max, one less per extra weapon): Tech Drone, AI hacking, tech armor

History: Sera left for the Citadel from Rannoch at the age of 19, getting a job in C-Sec due to her skill in mechanical maintenance. Once there, she slowly worked her way up, become a Lieutenant at the age of 23. Two years later, after taking the major part in breaking up a large smuggling ring (taking a shot to the gut in the process), she was put into consideration for becoming a Spectre. She was only granted Spectre status one month prior to the bombing, making this her first real assignment. Her only area of operations is the Citadel, and some of the bombing material was quarian in design, making her the prime candidate for the job.

Further Notes: She is a bit rash in her actions, having a tendency to act first, rather than think through potential actions and reactions. This is the main reason it took so long for her Spectre status to be approved, and pretty much all of her superiors agree that she works best when she has someone to tell her when she is making a mistake, rather than working alone. Not that she'd tell you that.

Name: Robin Drake

Race: Human, N7 spec ops commando (Project-slayer/vanguard)

Gender: Male

Description: Usually wears N7 armour, but in casual situation wears simple Alliance fatigues. Most of his combat gear minimizes sound and increases mobility, but leaves a little to be desired in the way of protection.

Weapons: Paladin X, Biotic Sword.

Abilities: Cloak, Biotic slash, Biotic charge.

History: Born 27 years after the reaper wars, Robin has never known a time of war.He has extensive training at the Shepard Academy on Vancouver, earth, and became one of the youngest humans ever accepted into the alliances N7 program. Due to his Agility and natural talent for biotics, Robin became a master of espionage and joined the Slayer Vanguard program within the N7. He has excelled in many stealth and recon missions, earning commendations from many of his superiors. He currently functions as part of the N7 black operations team codenamed: Shattered Echo.

Born aboard The Rayya whilst his parents where engaging in routine negotiations with the quarian admiralty, Robin has always felt more comfortable in space, and privately prefers the company of aliens. The alliance provided him with a small ftl ship for personal flights and one man missions, and he often visits Rannoch to keep up with his childhood friend Ilaia vas Rannoch.

Currently the alliance has found intel of disturbances occurring on the moon Helios 2. Intelligence suggests that a resurgence or the eclipse gang is causing disruption to to a small mining operation is to blame for the comms black out. Drake has been sent to investigate.
Name: Gnos, Urdallias vas Cuttlefish

Age: 406 (This might need to be changed I'm not exactly sure of the dates)

Gender: None

Species:
Asari (Quarian father)

Description:
Short for an Asari Nace's skin is a bright turquoise shimmering slightly with darkened stripes. Her crests are rather damaged indicating fairly extensive surgery. People seem to find her attractive which she guesses is just part of being an Asari. She doesn't really put much effort into her appearance dressing practically as opposed to stylishly. She wears an old dusters coat and boots designed to walk on any terrain. Her clothes and equipment are all built to minimise noise where ever possible.

Weapons:
Sniper Rifle, Omni-Blade

Abilities:
AI hacking, Tactical cloak, decoy

History:

Born on Rannoch in the early days of the geth, before the morning war. Her Asari mother was a traveller/ explorer who spent most of her time away from home exploring the galaxy trying to make it rich. Her "father" was a Quarian scientist a key researcher in the development of the geth. They met when the first cuttlefish crashed on Rannoch and fell for each other while the ship was being repaired.

Early life wasn't so easy Gnos was born with several mental problems; they ranged from an inability to form memories to emotional instability. These combined with her natural biotic powers made her very dangerous.

Neither of her parents was very good at the emotional side of things so their solution to her problems were a little unconventional. Using the still nascent geth tech her father constructed a neural implant.

Its purpose was simple, use a partial Ai (not quite its own person but close) to help compensate for her mental deficiencies and manage her brain functions. For example her memories could be stored and managed on a hard drive to help both with storage and recall.
It worked; at least mostly it allowed her to control herself much better, her memory and ability to think clearly and quickly were massively improved. But you don't make someone part Ai without causing a few problems. For one her biotic powers proved unmanageable, so there was no choice but to inhibit them as heavily as possible. The lack of biotic powers does cause problems between her and other Asari, especially since she doesn't know any so closely.

She also became more socially distant especially for an Asari, she got a reputation for being cold and calculating and she still struggles with working out emotions.

In essence she changed. It didn't help that after the surgery her mother travelled even more and was home even less or that her father was taken away because the war was starting.
She was still extremely young, not nearly old enough to fight so she was evacuated with her extended family to the flotilla. Time passed, her mother never returned. Maybe she couldn't or maybe she didn't want to. What happened to her father was never officially confirmed but she didn't need confirmation.

Being as long lived as she was she saw generations of her family come and go.
Unfortunately it was common knowledge there was geth in her, as time advanced tensions grew before reaching breaking point. She left, not entirely willingly but not entirely unwillingly either.

She spent the next 50 years or so finding herself. She came to realise there was science and war in her blood and started using her natural talents. Working as a gun for heir or in some cases spying. Her unique situation caught the attention of certain special interest groups. Something about an Overlord. She did her best to avoid them, sticking to shadows not being noticed.

Eventually she received a message.

"You won't know me, but I've heard all about you. I know what you are and I know people want that. But I'm here to make a deal. If you can do a little job for me I can offer you protection from Cerberus, There's been an attack on the citadel council and we need someone like you to look into it."

A less desperate or hunted Gnos wouldn't even have considered the offer. But in these times. She accepted

Name: (CPL.) Baxter Yates

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Description: 6'1 with cleancut black hair and clean shaven, his build is that of a standard soldier. The only things that make him memorable are his piercing green eyes and his ability to seemingly never smile. He favors his modified Krogan Liberator armor for it's protection. When off duty, he wears his fathers hand-me-down N7 leather jacket and cargo pants.

Weapons: Avenger assault rifle and a Paladin pistol, modified heat sink to hold 5 rounds.

Abilities: Frag grenade, armor piercing rounds, First-Aid (can be switched out with Adrenaline rush).

History: His father was an N7 agent, and one of the men defending London with Shepard, but he took a ship out when things got too hot. He was arrested for desertion, and his legacy has hounded Baxter since he first joined up. Baxter had to work his way up from the ground floor as a national guard member to marine, and almost made it to N7. That was ruined when a rumor circled around that he had raped and killed a Quarian on Omega, but the case was acquitted due to lack of evidence. Ever since he's been doing stunt after stunt, hoping for that shot again.

Name: Valentin Niktovich Volkov
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Species: Drell
Description: Tall, wiry, and green. Extensive burn scars up the left side of his torso and face (eyes intact). Looks like he would have been very handsome before the scarring. Wears a button-up shirt, waistcoat and jeans.
Weapons: Heavily modified & personalised sniper rifle, named 'Kostya'. Throwing knives.
Abilities:*see below
History: Valentin doesn't know the circumstances of his birth, or who his real parents are - all he knows is that he was dropped on the doorstep of a Moskovian couple who had recently moved to the Citadel and he was raised by them. This resulted in him being raised in a human culture, meaning that he has no strong connection to the drell or drell identity - for example, he is not religious, as many of the drell are, and he has no great love for the hanar. He neglects to tell people about his childhood for reasons that only he and his personnel file know - but at age 18 he ran away from his home to live on the streets somewhere else in Zakera ward. It didn't go well for him, and after an incident with a gang leader that left him unconscious in a ditch with extensive burns up the left side of his body, he was taken in by C-Sec and given medical care and a job. He didn't talk much, but spent most of his time in the firing range avoiding contact with anyone else. He was eventually promoted to investigator despite the animosity of his peers, has recovered from his depression following his injury, and has remained in the wards fighting crime since.
Further Notes: Things I know but haven't included here for the sake of dramatic tension are: the state of his childhood, what his parents were like, if he ever saw them again, why his gun is called Kostya, the incident with the gang leader. Valentin is...how to put it...fond of taking the piss? He's not of the belief that 'professionalism' entails 'acting like Scrooge with a stick up his end all of the time', and is fond of joking around both in his free time and on the job, a habit which has earned him equal parts respect and derision.

* abilities. If you don't object at all, I would like to trade in all 3 abilities for improbably good aim with his rifle (and competency with throwing knives, as a given). If not, please say.

Name: Spade

Age: NA

Gender: NA

Species: Geth Hunter

Description: As a hunter, Spade's appearance is fairly standard, a glassy black outer shell with raised shoulder pads that detach for non-combat moments. Spade's light glows a dark green though, unlike most Geth and that tends to differentiate himself between other Geth.

Weapons: Plasma shotgun, plasma sniper rifle.

Abilities (three max, one less per extra weapon): AI Hacking, Decryption, Invisibility

History: After the war, Spade was used primarily as an investigator for the Citadel to hunt major criminals whom would otherwise be difficult to apprehend. His cloaking and other infiltration modules allow him to easily get inside an armed base and stealthily kill a criminal, leaving without a trace. It's history of working with organics over other Geth has puzzled many others, some saying he is merely dysfunctional, but they allow Spade to keep on with its life as it does not effect the other Geth.

Further Notes: Spade shows little in the form of remorse for its actions, though it does attempt to understand organics and their rituals. It is also not above working for Cerberus or any other shady company in order to maintain its ship. Spade's ship is a small fighter designed to quickly go from place to place. The weapons systems are active but Spade rarely if ever has to use them. The ship also has a cloaking generator and a radar blocker in order to allow for an easy escape should that be needed. It has no organic life support, windows or anything that would allow for a non-Geth to be present as those systems were deactivated, though Spade can reactivate them if it wants to move an organic in its ship.

Name: Alia T'Vani

Age: 166

Gender: Female

Species: Asari (Turian father)

Description: Alia is a towering example of Asari physiology, standing over 6 and a half feet tall and rippling with muscles from years of training. Her skin is a tone between Azure and Cerulean. She wears Turian facial markings; the same as her fathers. When off duty, she favors formal Asari, military attire. on duty, she wears her Polarlex Power-Armor (pictured below)

Weapons: Assault Rifles (Asari modified Geth Pulse Rifle), Heavy Weapons (M-490 Blackstorm)

Abilities: Barrier, Biotic Charge, Nova

History: Alia was born the daughter of an Asari police-officer and a Turian spectre. The two met during a criminal investigation on Thessia, both hunting the same criminal (a rogue Asari crime lord). The two agreed to work together to catch the criminal after several less-then friendly encounters with each other and their target. Their alliance eventually turned into something deeper - though neither would ever say it was love.

Alia's mother died giving birth to her. As a result, Alia grew up on Thessia (where her parents had settled), but in a very disciplined household/ Whether by genetics or nurturing, she grew to love the ordered life of her Turian father; taking to it like a fish does water. For the first part of her life, it was simple and quiet - save a fair deal of military training thanks to her father's brand of child rearing.

This all changed with the Reaper Invasion. When Thessia came under assault, her father put her on one of the last ships to the Citadel - very much against her will. By the time she reached the Citadel, she had enlisted in the Asari Military so she could get back there. Seeing the massive losses their military was taking and given her already significant knowledge of military techniques and tactics, Alia was pushed toward a new, heavier armored brand of Asari Huntresses and Commandos - focusing on heavy strikes and powerful defenses. It was a brand of fighting that Alia had little trouble grasping and she earned a reputation as a Heavy-Weapon Specialist.

Of course, thanks to Commander Shepard, the war was over before she ever got a chance to fight. Though she was happy the war was over, she regretted never getting a chance to strike back at the monsters that took her life from her. When all was said and done, all she could do was return to Thessia with the relief crews to pick up the pieces. She never found her father, though this was hardly surprising considering the reapers method of "troop enlistment"

Alia has been a soldier through and through since then; doing as her superiors tell her without question or argument. She hopes to work her way up the chain of command, and follow her father's footsteps into the Spectre program. Alia has been described much like humans are; relentless in the pursuit of her goal; almost to the point of insanity. Like Turians, she wants to earn her promotions, and like Asari heritage, she knows she has a thousand years to get there. As such, she masters every new thing she can, before moving to the next. She is considered an Asari Commando - all be it a specialized one.

Further Notes: Despite her attitude, Alia still thinks like a Maiden; curious about everything and entirely restless. Due to her life on Thessia and her subsequent military service; she has almost no experience with races other then Asari and Turians. She is currently Citadel on orders from the Asari high-command, supplementing security following the assassination attempt.

Name: Digit

Age: N/A

Gender: N/A

Race: Geth

Description: A lean, jet-black Geth with many self-modifications, some looking rather haphazard yet somehow holding together. Has the impression of a unit that is constantly tinkering with it's own platform: one arm replaced with a LOKI mech arm, a scope attachment that looks like it comes from an antique monocular over the eye, cables of debatable purpose hanging from back, a bycicle pump sticking out of one knee, etc.

Weapons: Pistol, Assault Rifle

Abilities: Cryo Blast, Combat Drone, Neural Shock

History: A malfunctioning mobile platform that was spaced by the Geth without them realizing there were still active runtimes inside (Malfunctions in the body made it impossible for them to detect the runtimes). Later taken aboard a passing ship as salvage, and nicknamed "Digit" by the crew when it would only give a series of numbers as a name, the Geth has repaired itself heavily using whatever was available. Due to errors in it's programming, Digit is far more curious than other Geth, and has an impulsive need to seek out new knowledge. Because of this, it now simply wanders the galaxy aimlessly, repairing abandoned ships to explore new worlds and make new discoveries. It has a special fondness for discovering new technology and integrating it into other tech, including it's own body.

Further Notes: Self-preservation is unusually strong for a Geth, as Digit is unable to upload it's programming to another body. Nonetheless, curiosity often overshadows this.

Name: Darren Branden

Age: 32

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Description: Standing around 5ft 11 inches, Darren is of average build and is quite strong. Short brown hair and green eyes. His armour reflects his mercenary work and is very practical with a very deep, shining black colour. You might say he was handsome if you were looking from a distance and didn't notice the two scars on his neck and face, but now you'd say he looked suited to the job.

Weapons: Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun.

Abilities: Adrenaline Rush, Disruptor Rounds.

History: Since being born on a human colony world, Darren had lived and learned about what it meant to be a human in the galaxy, he had been told their race stood tall and one of their number had saved all life. Darren wished to follow this example and readily became a soldier, looking for his chance to be a hero.

That chance never really came, his unit was disbanded two years after he had joined it. They were considered to be surplus to requirements. Now, with all the skills of a soldier, his youth and no cause, Darren was soon convinced he could earn a lot of money as a mercenary. So that became his lot in life, protecting rich employers, fighting other mercenary bands, getting to spend time between contracts enjoying himself.

This continued for a while, the cycle of getting contracts and getting time off wearing thin. A brush with death in a firefight with other mercenaries made him re-think his career decision and instead decided to go legitimate, trying to set himself up as some sort of investigator. However, C-Sec made it clear to him that there was no place on the Citadel for him, either work for C-Sec or go, Darren decided that he could stomach the long C-Sec hours if it meant he would do his job and be sure of pay.

Since then, Darren has been a C-Sec investigator, though he doesn't feel any sort of loyalty towards them and is often frustrated by their bureaucratic approach. Sometimes he wishes he could just shoot the bad guy instead of arresting him.

Further Notes: Darren likes most kinds of aliens, though he harbours a mild dislike for Turians in general as it was a Turian who gave him his scars and he had never really got along with Turians before anyway. Darren did in fact kill someone he was investigating, a wealthy man who had paid his way out of a C-Sec cell before. Darren cornered him and knocked him out, then threw him onto a walkway below, head first to make it look like the man had died attempting to escape. He prefers people to act within the law but is willing to break the law if procedure is becoming an obstacle.

Name: Garjen 'Nighthawk' Zeros

Race: Salarian male

Description: Goes into combat in a jet pack suit similar to the turian one in the Retaliation MP DLC. His skill at maneuvering in this suit is how he earned his name. Otherwise he is a fairly unremarkable middle aged Salarian, with dark green skin.

Weapons: Carnifex or Javelin, depending on the job, and a rather expensive omni-tool.

Abilities: Cloak, Sabotage, Neural shock grenade (is it ok if I made that up?).

History: Born about 20 years after ME3 on the Salarian homeworld, Garjen was the result of a particularly successful marriage contract, and was groomed for Salarian Intelligence. He performed beyond this, showing aptitude for infiltration and sabotage. He was made a Specter. For the next few years he was active on several missions. However after only a short time in service, he dug up a mole in the Specter system who was leaking information to rival factions. The mole was a close colleague of Garjen's, so he made the mistake of confronting him before anyone else to see if it was true. His Salarian colleague acted fast, and managed to frame him for the info leaks. He fled the Salarian sector, renamed himself Nighthawk, and now spends his time covertly combating the traitors efforts, and gathering proof of the treachery so that he might one day bring justice. He also does some semi-illegal infiltration/assassination work to keep himself provisioned. It is currently unresolved, but Garjen is slowly building up a basis to attack the traitor.

Whichever color was the Destroy ending. That's why I mentioned that the synthetics had to be rebuilt, and why there was a delay on the quarians getting their immune systems fixed.

Interest is piqued. Character will be constructed. Questions though:

1) What about the other races (volus, hannar, batarian, synthetic, etc); can they be played? I'm personally not going to play any of them (I'm leaning Human or Asari, because the idea I have in mind requires biotics), I'm just curious.

2) Are the abilities limited to those in the games or can they be unique? More directly, I really want to be able to punch someone in the jaw with a biotic-induced, fist.

3) Any major political changes since the events of ME3 (have the Volus finally rolled to the top, or is the sky still Asari blue?).

Let me know at your convenience.

1) They can, but playing as a volus would be tricky thanks to the whole "One shot, go boom" thing.

2) What you want to do is an ability in ME3, so that's fine. Unique abilities are subject to my approval, to make sure they are balanced.

3) Not really, other than the krogan and quarian Spectres. 4 race Council. They do have quarian and krogan diplomats, however, to communicate with the Council, basically putting them at the level of the volus and other such races.

Yes. But keep in mind, geth are probably not totally forgiven 50 years later, when there was a 300 year old grudge against them.

So, since they have free will, should I start saying I as a geth? That was never answered I don't think.

Geth and Hanar are the only 2 species that are interesting.

Everything else is far too human like. If extraterrestrial civilizations exist, they will probably be very different from us.

Mass Effect lore was never appealing to me, but good luck.

Is it ok if I'm an ex Specter by the way? If not just change it all to Salarian Intel.

?You won?t know me, but I?ve heard all about you. I know what you are and I know people want that. But I?m here to make a deal. If you can do a little job for me I can offer you protection from Cerberus, There?s been an attack on the citadel council and we need someone like you to look into it.?

A less desperate or hunted Gnos wouldn?t even have considered the offer. But in these times. She accepted.
She would need to be older. Geth wars started about 350 years ago.

I was going to ask if I could be a yahg but I don't think it would work...

So I will be...

Is it ok if I'm an ex Specter by the way? If not just change it all to Salarian Intel.
Neural shock grenade is fine, but what are the weaknesses of the jet pack? Being allowed to fly around willy-nilly could cause some issues with finding balance.

As for the ex-Spectre thing, that works. I just don't want any current Spectres.

I?ve made a few edits along with the age thing.

The lack of biotic powers does cause problems between her and other Asari, especially since she doesn?t know any so closely.

So is that all? Is the character accepted?
