Hello everyone,

Seeing as the remake of Turtles in Time came out this week, I got the itch to dig out my old SNES and play the original again. I was expecting to find a fun game, but no where near as good as I remembered it to be because of age. I was actually pleasantly surprise to find a game that has stood the test of time pretty well. The fighting, while as simple as "mash attack button, jump, repeat" is satisfying enough to keep me kicking the shit out of foot soldiers with a big grin on my face well into the last level. I also don't think there is any other beat-em-up that gives you the ability to hurl your opponent toward the screen. Plus the music, oh God the music, is just as catchy today as it was years ago.

I've heard the new remake is based more off of the arcade version rather than the superior SNES version and that saddens me a bit. It's almost universally recognized among gamers that the arcade version is not as good and why they chose to rip that one is beyond me. So I want to know: What games have you gone back and played that stood the test of time? Or even more fun, what games have you played that you loved as a kid but have gone back to play and been severely disappointed? Let the nostalgia commence!!

Turtles in Time, Goldeneye, Sonic 1-Sonic 3, and if you count around 10 years, then Starcraft and Half Life.

I think alot of old-school survives the test of time, simply because people into said games are large in numbers enough to be a demographic. Seriously, if no one still liked simple 2D platformers, Megaman 9 would've floundered.

Not exactly old enough to be old school, but I think that The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask will always stand the test of time.

Spyro the Dragon stood the test of time for me, but that could just be because I was severely biased due to a hazing of nostalgia while playing it. On the flip side, I'm not so big on Super Mario 64 anymore, but that could be because I expected it to become noticeably easier when I grew up and it didn't.

I recently went back and played Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, and the attention to detail and the depth of the design still blows me away. More modern games should take a less on from those.

Chrono Trigger. Still a paragon of beauty and brains. A moving tale, wonderful characters. Hell, to this day, even the soundtrack makes me all misty-eyed. It's...comforting, if that makes any sense.

Most recent is Worms Armageddon.

Remember buying it when it first came out in a HUGE box just for a CD. I was really glad to see people are still online with it. :D (and its the best Worms ever, they got worse in 3d)

FFIX I think I enjoyed just for the nostalgia however.

Super Mario 3.

Frogger, that was my favorite game ever I have never been beaten in it however now its no longer fun because no one is a challenge to me and my spastic button pressing skills.

I can't remember a really old game that I used to enjoy that I've played recently, but last spring I played through SMB3 for the first time and found a surprisingly solid title. I knew it was supposed to be great, but I didn't think that it would hold up to SMW in my mind; and then it was a lot of fun.

Sonic 1 and 2 as well as Super Mario Bros 3 are still amazing games. I also enjoy Need for Speed High Stakes once in a while.

The Arcade versions that were ported to the NES were awesome!

Final Fantasy 7. Got it again for PC, and played through it again.

I'm never gonna say it's the "messiah of RPGs" so many claim it to be, but taking it for what it is, it's pretty fun.

Apart from graphics, i'd say Mischief Makers still holds a lot of entertainment value. So do Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. I still play that one.
