I was a handicapped child, in that my parents didn't believe in video games, but rather *gasp* going outside or reading books instead lol.

So I'm looking for some good retro games to play on PC, preferably on the easier side of impossible since I probably have a worse gaming skill set than your average 5 year old. :S

What can we suggest that I can find/download/buy that were Escapist favourites?

PAPER MARIO! Find an N64 emulator (I use Project 64) somewhere and download the original Paper Mario rom. It is so super awesome and fun, I still go back to it today ^^

*Plays decently on even crappy laptops whose video card is integrated with the processor :p

Duke Nukem 3D! Been playing it like mad on XBLA (which is the PC version). Other good old PC games are ofcourse, Starcraft, first Command and Conquer, Torment, DOOM, Quake, Sim City 2000...
These are just all the ones I played anyways in my short time as a child PC gamer.

dont forget red alert, absolutely amazing game, AND FREE TOO! this is legal by the way, ea released it for free prior to red alert 3 coming out.

other than that, deus ex, half-life and its expansion opfor (opposing force), fallout 1 and 2, blood, diablo 2, uplink. you really have a catalog of thousands of games to choose from.

oh, and by the way, gog is awesome, especially in these situations.

Warcraft III's campaign mode is easy at first and ramps up pretty quick, but is a good start in real-time strategy games.
Sims 2 is a good casual game experience, Sims 3 as well if you're looking for pretty grahics but I think it lacks something.
Fable 1 for the PC is a pretty accessible title that's pretty satisfying to play. In that regard any of the King's Quest games as well since they're basically point and click games.

All of those with PC in mind.
I'd suggest Icewind Dale II over Fable 1 because it's basically Fable one except with, you know, an interesting plot. Downgrade in graphics, true, but totally worth it for some of the dialog options. x3

Hard because there's no real genre list. But some of the ones I adored were Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Populous: The Beginning, Simcity 2000 and 3000, Wing Commander, and Dungeon Siege: Legends of Arrana.

This is true, and although N64 roms are known to have buggy emulation, Paper Mario is one of the better ones.

While we are on the Mario topic though, the Mario Party series?

It is a little hard seeing as I know the OP only has a (crappy) notebook, a Wii, N64 and PS2 (N64 and PS2 are on loan from myself and her cousin respectively) ^.^

The default video plugin for Project 64 makes the game pretty unplayable though, I'd recommend Rice's if you're using that.

Hey, apparently the PS2 is MINE, ALL MINE. Just coz I have not the faintest idea how to play it doesn't detract from MY ownership lol!

Oh and btw I hate your 64 controllers since they only thing they "control" is my anger levels when attempting to do ANYTHING with 'em... :S

But let's assume I have working tech for now, shall we? :D

But that would be boring. =3

I'll go have a look through my games later and see if anything comes to mind.
