Headline: Ever wanted the equivalent of a RAMBO game? Well, here it is with the flaws you'd expect but an experience to get!

Black is perhaps best described as a purely focused with action FPS from the start to end. I mean that this is the equivalent of a Hollywood movie; the story is full of style that goes mostly nowhere, it only lasts for so long, its original concepts of entertainment begin to dull, and the enemies are... sleepy overall.

Gotta blow up that tractor, gotta blow up everything!

You play as a character put in jail for his previous actions, as he tells his story, you play out those events. Your arsenal feels quite well weighed; while some weapons are more used as tools like snipers and RPG's, the remaining majority feels just right, sound great sound, and can be modded. The game is focused at letting you either shoot enemies down in confined corners, or blow 'em to smithereens. While the variety aside is low, there becomes a tendency that there's a big, flashy boom right around a group of enemies (Just like in movies).

Black in terms of looks is a breakthrough, it isn't about the art, it’s about just how god darn amazing everything looks. Very few jagged areas, solid textures, beyond this console lighting, simply beautiful weapons, and explosions that go the extra mile. The acting is Hollywood and dialogue is well worn, yet kind of cheesy; but there are resounding sound effects. When the set pieces go off it is very easy to not screw up that OMG feeling the developers were going for allowing for all the beauty to just rip right open like you're in heaven, you couldn't feel much happier.

Here, have some explosions :)

So, it is Rambo very much; the enemies too have the same concept. They stand around in a war zone or run down a fleet of stairs while taking no cover for themselves. While it is one of many flaws, it at least goes the way everything else does. Black unfortunately is short, 6 to 8 hours is all it offered up; not even multiplayer and with such a linearly, preset set game, different routes of play are mostly out of the question. However, Black still may be worth a purchase (or a double rental) because the experience will eventually still end up being too much fun to shelf after just one play. It’s like a DVD, if you bought it, you should likely see it more than once.

7.5/ 10 GOOD (PS2)

+Fantastic weapon set and modding options

+Loads of destruction

+Has some of the best set piece battles I’ve played

+Beyond this generation graphics and sound

-Linear and super repetitive

-Short

-Enemies are morons

BLACK was one of the first FPS games I ever tried.

I had great times with it but you're right the A.I is a little stupid.

Black was my very first shooter, I actually still have it laying around somewhere.
It was for what I can remember pure hardcore gun porn and I loved it.
