Progression be damned, I'm REALLY stoked for this one. Shaping up to be what I hope to be one of many GOTY contenders coming out of Nintendo.

I'm pretty sure you the second player could stun enemies in the original SMG as well.

..and damn it, I really want this game but won't be able to play it for another 3 weeks.

Good review as always.
This game might finally give me a reason to dust off the Wii and take it out for another go. :D
Will there be any chance that the next review on the Escapist will be Red Dead Redemption?

Did anyone expect this game to suck? A great review though! Poor Luigi, he is getting upstaged by Yoshi at this point. Ouch!

Well, I never liked 3D mario since the camera and the platforming don't work well together, but I still gave SMG a try due to its high praise. And I was utterly disgusted and disappointed by that game due to the same poor control dressed up with interesting looking but ultimately the same level designs.

Hearing that this game is just more of the same still has me pretty skeptical. I guess I just gotta try it out at Bestbuy or something.
...what kind of games DO you enjoy? And you know you can change camera modes (and have been able to in every 3D mario game, ever). You're not impressing anyone by not jumping on the bandwagon here.
Sounds like someone's mad that I don't like a Mario game. I kind of expected this, but not from this forum actually. Um, how do I explain this, changing camera modes doesn't help solve the camera problems. In fact, the game is even more annoying to play when it's in first person view.

It's actually very interesting that you think that there's actually an anti-SMG bandwagon to jump into. The way I see it, your opinion is that people have to either love this game, or they're just wrong.

Edit: Oh, and what kind of games I enjoy. I enjoy 2D mario games, Contra, Pong, Tetris, NMH, MGS, Uncharted 2, GT series, Mario Kart, etc. I know it's shocking that I can not like SMG and still like playing other games.

"more like a faceship" ~ so very, very wrong.

I miss the hubworlds, I know I'm in a minority here but I liked having a little world to explore in between missions, it was pretty.

Fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy and I'm glad to hear this isn't too much different. I'm really surprised they pulled another concept out of the "what are the stars for" hat. I'm sure they'll run out eventually but today is not that day! It's cool that they've put in a motive to not use auto-pilot but I wouldn't have minded at all if they didn't. It's a single-player game, what do I care if other people cheat? I'll buy it for MY enjoyment, not anybody else's. Maybe when they introduce a global leader-board I'll start caring.

I think your problem is, that you generally don't like 3D Plattformers, which is ok, but the problem here is, that you try to justify your opinion by blaming a good game for being bad though it's not really true, because the game is good regardless of your personal opinion. The elements do play well together to give a player a good 3D plattforming experience, it's just not your cup of tea probably due to your general problems with 3D Plattforming as such. It would be much easier just to write that YOU don't like this game, because YOU have problems with it, that prevent YOU from enjoying it. The sole try to to disguise your personal opinion as a fact may have provoked "Brainst0rm" to his unfriendly sounding question.

Susan, have you player Bowser's Inside Story? Kuribo's shoe makes an appearance in that game. Mario get kidnapped by one and Luigi gets trapped in an unconscious shoe.

From the second I saw those things I started wishing "please let me in that shoe, please let me in that shoe/".

Great review. I'm kinda sad I no longer have a Wii, because I really want to play this game.

About a 100% chance, yep. :)

Oh, and the banktoad changes his appearance depending on how many star bits you've deposited. At 1000, he switches to glasses, at 2000, he switches to a spear and shield. So he's not always being...friendly...with a star bit.

I thought that's what I said. If it isn't, that's what I meant. I don't like SMG because I don't like 3D Mario platforming because I don't like the way the camera works with its platforming. I felt that the level designs are generally the same that looks different.

And I do like 3D platforming. Ratchet and Clank and the Jak series are some of my favorite games of all time, but jumping in the Z axis in those games somehow feels much more natural to me than for 3D mario games.

By the way, "your opinion by blaming a good game for being bad though it's not really true, because the game is good regardless of your personal opinion" is an oxymoron. Isn't "good" an opinion? A good thing for one person could be bad for another person, can't it?
