I still think its an abortion of the original wolfenstien idea but I'll still play it for the same reason I played Doom3.

Hmmm... am I the only one who looks at the Veil and thinks of the Underworld in the Soul Reaver Series? The only things missing are the various souls and monsters roaming the dimension. Or am I wrong? I didn't see any evidence of enemies that roam the veil.

Still, it definitely sparked my interest. And after blowing the heads off of countless enemies in Fallout 3, I need something new to laugh maniacally at. :)
There are creatures called Geists (not to be confused with the GameCube game of the same name) that float through the Veil. If you shoot one, it'll kill nearby enemies. They look kind of like fishies just sort of hanging out, floating around.

Thanks for the review, The single player seems to be exactly what I expected from an Id game. Fun, just blasting away and nothing overly serious.

However I play these singleplayer parts through once and then focus on the multiplayer for months afterwards, kind of wishing there was abit about that part.

Question. Is the multiplayer like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, and is it as good? Please don't compare it to Call of Duty or something, compare it with W:ET and Quake Wars. :)

Not going to pass any kind of judgment on the multiplayer, because I am definitely not a multiplayer kind of gal. So this is where we turn to our community -- guys, what do you think of the multiplayer?

I don't know if I'm somehow missing a patch or what, but I haven't seen a single multi-player game since release on the PC version. It makes me kind of sad I know it's not going to be like W:ET but it could still be fun using veil powers in objective based team-play.

Aside from not being able to find any multi-player matches the single player portion of the game is excellent if you're looking to have a bit of fun. Even though it's running on the Id tech 4 engine it still looks quite good at high resolutions and it runs great as well.

I enjoyed the game quite a bit. I loved the particle-cannon and the flame-thrower. But now that I think about it...I really should've used that poof-gun

Wolfenstein is fucking awesome. It's simplistic, yet complicated, if that makes sense. It's an FPS to the core with a layer of badass with the Veil. Also, B.J. Blazkowicz sounds like the name of a porn star. He also has a bitchin' jacket.

Poof!

Poof gun? Slaughter should never be that adorable.
It get worse, next time I poof an enemy I'll get Susan's voice going "hello mr mean Nazi"
then "BOOF boof"

And why did I just describe a frag as i'm poofing someone?, Susan!, no more poofing!.

All in favour of calling a frag a poof from now on?

Its got more forethought put into it than bioshock and doom 3 combined, other than not having alot of of mods for the weapons the game is rather good.

Leichenfaust is an odd name for a weapon. (a direct translation would be corpsefist)

Did you even like the game? I think you forgot to mention that somewhere in your 'review'.
Methinks she's been studying from the book of Yahtzee, only she puts out the powerpuff girl side of reviewing. You just gotta follow how she describes the gameplay, the AI, the interface, etc. I always look forward to Susan's reviews. Whenever I might be down I just stream up her video review for Splosion Man.
Awesome review Susan, this really feels like a vast improvement over Return to Wolfenstein, if it is perhaps too far into the easy end. But with some tweaking Id can put out some make-you-cry DLC that will be just as fun. Time to start saving the moolah, cuz I want it!

Does it have Hitler in a giant mech? This is very important to me.
Ugly mustachioed guy is overdue for his encore. Can see it now, The big Feuhrer on one of his rant speeches, camera scrolls down to see a leather jacketed BJ watching briefly before walking over to snap some poor soldier's neck. A bit cliche but would be damn cool, if later in the game it came to a faceoff between BJ and Hitler in a steampunked mecha.

i just hate it that there are still games that use collision model for bullet impacts and in worse case for all stuff that gets applied to the surface.

While the game does provide some entertaining and intriguing moments, the game play is lacking. Like many FPS games, repetition will eventually overtake you. Though the biggest blow is the lack of robot Hitler, but the ending is quite spectacular.

No, your just stupid. Why in the love of god, some ppl try to explain to others somthing they have no idea about ? How can something be bigger than it really is ? WTF ?!? The problem comes from the physbox-prop polycount diffrence. It has nothing to do with any colision detection, its just a lazy level designing. Props affected by physics and animated character have a second vesrion with a 10-100x smaller polycout, so there is less collision points when they hit somthing, and it isnt that haevy on the cpu or gpu. But when you hire begginners as 3d modelers, or just ppl that cant do their job correctly, they tend to not alling the both vesrions, or just not give it enought tris.
I also know what part you talking about, the goddamn rocks, it really pissed me off, when i was seeing the enemies but could kill them ;/
Oh yeas, and i loved the game, best fps game this year.
I appreciate your point of view, though you should probably learn how to better express it. Please read the forum guidelines, and treat your fellow Escapists with respect. The Escapist is not a forum of pointless insults, but one of discussion and pleasant debate. Welcome.

Consider the possibility that this issue is caused by bullet collisions being calculated by the bounding box, rather than the visible mesh, or even a collision mesh. The bounding box always has a greater volume than the object it applies to, and can thus be considered "bigger" than the object. It doesn't get rendered, but mathematically speaking it's larger. The bounding box is the "quick and dirty" collision detector, and objects that move at incredible speed (like bullets) likely don't make it past this step in all cases.
