When you stop and look, you can always see me. If you try to touch you cannot feel me. I cannot move, but as you near me, I will move away from you. What am I?
A shadow

Old Mother Twitchett had but one eye and a long tail which she let fly; and every time she went through a gap, a bit of her tail she left in a trap.

What is she?

We are very little creatures; all of us have different features.
One of us in glass is set; one of us you'll find in jet.
Another you may see in tin, and a fourth is boxed within.
If the fifth you should pursue, it can never fly from you. What are we?

Right. Well, "vowels," but I knew what you meant.

I heard of an invading, vanquishing army sweeping across the land fast as the wind; conquering everything, quelling resistance. With it came darkness, dimming the light of the sun. Humans hid in their houses and animals took to shelter, while outside millions of spears pierced, shattering even stone walls. Uncountable soldiers smashed into the ground, but each elicited life as he died: when the army had vanished, advancing onwards, the land was green and growing and the air refreshed.

What was this army?
