Many controllers were broken.
Took me so god dam long...
I'm sure I would of ragequit if it was any other game.

OT: Towards the end of Ratchet and Clank 2 the difficulty curve turned into a brick wall, so it's a good job I had the RYNO =D

Dante's Inferno, albeit on Hellish difficulty only. Its not so much a difficulty 'curve' as a difficulty Big Dipper between won-in-one combo easy and dying so often the game taunts you with the message that pressing back at any time allows you to change the difficulty... what they really mean is 'press back to turn all the insta-death attacks OFF'.

I Wanna Be The Guy, final boss. Played for about 5 days to get to The Guy and then it took me another week to beat him.

Devil May Cry 4, first playthrough. It's not really that hard at the start, it just eases you along, and then you hit Dante and he just stomps all over you. He's easy once you figure it out, but IMO he's pretty hard to "figure out" without a guide.

CoD: WAW on Veteran. The first few levels are pretty easy, with the sniper duel being a possible stumbling block. Then you get to "Their Land, Their Blood" and the grenade spam begins...

Mass Effect 2, Insanity difficulty with an Infiltrator. It's all well and good, until you come up against a timed section with bum-rushing enemies, and you have a sniper rifle.

But most of all:

Ninja Gaiden NES - First level is cake, then you get halfway through the second and suddenly the game decides hurl abuse and laugh at your horrible ineptitude. I've beaten The Guy and I play most of my games on their highest difficulty, but this just made me completely lose my shit. I haven't even passed the third level.

The Ninja Gainden on the orginal XBox, it was fine until 15 minutes into the game and you get your first boss. I can't remember ever beating him.

Veteran on CoD, fucking grenades.

Insanity on Mass Effect 2, it's all fun and games until you realize those ten enemies rushing at you all have armor and/or shields that you have to get through to use any skills on.

No one's mentioned it yet? Seriously?

The Water Temple from OoT. Everything's a breeze for the entire game, and then BAM! Lowering/raising water levels, going all the way to the clothing menu to change into your iron boots, and worst of all, being able to get yourself stuck forever if you do things wrong with absolutely no warning that such a thing was even possible.

Still haven't beaten it.
I found it to be one of the easier temples actually, it's just a case of exploring everywhere and remembering where things are.

I did it in around 3 hours with no guide.

Sentinel + Miranda + Grunt

Capable of handling just about any combination of enemies

Insanity is fucking hard though.

I found it to be so easy.I only died twice. And then I get it on the third try.

OT:The second boss in Vampire Night. It's very frustrating not hitting those fireballs and then dying. And having a controller does not help with Vampire Night being a rail-shooter.

The original Megaman, maybe I'm just not a serious enough platform gamer, but that one is tough.

Civilisation - Cid.

A lot of games have settings where easy/normal is way too easy and hard is way too hard with nothing in between though aand that just makes a game boring.

HL2 'Episode' Two. I breezed through it on normal dif until the horrible Strider defense mission at the end. Even on easy it took a friend taking over my mouse and keyboard before I could get past it.
I eventually managed to do it on normal once, but I still consider it an impossible raise in difficulty (and judging by the Steam stats, I'm not the only one who never could get past it).
THat battle is apparently scripted so you always end up winning at the last second i heard. SO what you do doesnt really matter.
Personnaly i tried once, but hated it one minute in, stupic sticky mines seem to arbitrarily NOT work when i needed them to.. i just want a rocket launcher and get it over with!

And as usual, since we a teh Gordon. We have to do everything.

Same with the end battle of episode 1, from wave to wave, to save a bunch of useless civilians so many ennemies were piling up against me and forcing me to take longer routes i got fed up with this pathetic excuse of a battle and never bothered to finish it.

Star Ocean 3. All three of the first ones seem to have this to some degree due to having a large number of sidequests and expecting you to do a good number of them. Once you arrive on Planet Styx however, every battle becomes a fight for your very existence unless you've mastered Item Creation and made some uber-weapons before going to the Lunar Base.
