So, I got back into Soul Calibur V, mostly because of how awful IV is.
Was very pleased, until I decided I didn't have enough toys for my virtual dolls to dress up in: time to buy dlc

now, my psn wallet is empty, so I can't buy anything. That's fine, i forgot i had bought another item. So I'll just total up the DLC to see what i'll need to put in my wallet to get it all: i want all the doll accessories, why not?

I paid 60 dollars for the game brand new. I preordered it. Got a nifty little bobblehead to prove it. I feel like I paid enough for the game. But I'm not gonna complain about few extra bucks for a few extra bells and whistles.

But a few extra bucks is not what I found. Totaled, the dlc comes to ~63 dollars. 68 if you include fucking Dampierre (because I got it at gamestop). Now, theres a lot of stuff, so surely that isn't THAT ridiculous. Except that each of the armor packs are stupidly inflated individually.

two of the packs (Soul Calibur V Character Equipment 1&2) only include ITEMS THAT ARE ALREADY IN THE GAME. both cost 3 bucks each and only include an unlock code for items that the default characters possess. the rest tend to come with 3-5 items, total.

FUCK YOU NAMCO.

This is the most disgustingly abuse of the DLC premise I have ever seen. Yeah, yeah, everybody whines about horse armor, but that was ONE pack out of how many others? EVERY piece of extra content is ridiculously overpriced.

Now, I realize I don't have to buy it. I'm not going to. But it pisses me off, nonetheless

EDIT: god dammit, the CAPTCHA was "fancy pants"

1) Moving this to Gaming Discussion, as it's, well, gaming discussion.
2) You must be new to Namco-Bandai. They ... well, do that. Did it with SCIV, did it with some airplane flying/fighting game, and are doing it with SCV. Luckily, few of their DLC packs are crucial, but I agree that it's, as the thread title states, ridiculous.

I don't see how this is worse than Capcom selling the true ending to Asura's Wrath as DLC.

Seconded.
Atleast this DLC is all cosmetic so all it does it look pretty. Capcom had the balls to sell off the ending to a game as DLC

From what I have seen, all fighting games have ridiculous DLC. They alway's have lots of it and it's usually all overpriced.

I think there needs to be rules against shit like this. I was livid when I found out that Arkham City didn't let me unlock the other suits just by playing the game, but that I had to spunk thirteen quid up the wall on them.

It is absolutely disgusting that companies are now attempting to charge --on top of the games already loft price tag-- money for things that used to come part and parcel with the game; it's utterly disrespectful of the consumers that have supported them through the fledgling years of the industry but, as long as there are people willing to pay for that shit, I guess we deserve to be treated like idiots.

I'm sad that DLC seems to have replaced unlockables for many games :[

One of the most satisfying things about 5th-6th gen fighting games was unlocking awesome new characters. It gave lonely people a reason to keep playing.

Um... you can still unlock the weapons normally. The DLC is just there for people who don't feel like playing a lot to unlock them.

At least, that was the case with IV. Pretty sure it's the same with V. Then again I never looked at V's DLC. Never really cared.

Not to pick on you specifically, but why do people feel the need to comment if they know they have nothing to add?
For one, the dlc in question is exclusively costumes. Secondly, unlike IV all of the DLC, despite much of it EXISTING on the disc, is not unlockable. Thirdly, you admit to never dealing with the topic of the thread. I mean, I appreciate the bump, but why add anything?

At any rate, the DLC is a ripoff, im whining about it, and no one wants to whine with me. might as well close the thread lol

Congratulations, you've learned how fighting games work.
You see, some people will buy single costumes for each character they want to use the most right? Say you are a fan of Ivy for instance, rather than sell you individual costumes for her, they'd rather increase the price to get you bundles for things you don't necessarily need. This works even better if you get overlap on the different packs, they raise the price to give you things you already own, so the only loss they suffer is the possibility to sell you more.

Then again, I suppose this might very well be your own fault, considering you are willing to pay for new costumes for characters that don't change anything.

Yeah, always wondered about that. I'd see those DLC trains pop up in the "Latest Releases" section every so often and the prices just seemed absurd. I figured this is either a zero-fucks-given semi-scam or I'm missing something, maybe something about train fans...
