eugh...why.. why cant they just leave things alone in hollywood? Just make one successful, good film without the obligatory milking session a few decades later.

Although that being said, if it were to come anywhere close to the titan of a piece that the first one was, i'll probably end up enjoying it anyway :)

I really need to watch Blade Runner but can someone tell me what version to watch though? I hear there are a LOT of versions.
The first one i watched was the latest directors cut - not that long ago. From the large number of people that i've seen comment on the issue, i think the majority confirm that the last is also the most..."complete" of the films - but that they're all very relevant in different ways.

Go with the directors cut, then watch the theatrical. they have different endings.

Normally, I'd be completely opposed to something like this... but Ridley Scott's absolute confidence in this project just seems to calm my nerd-raging soul.... I don't understand how this is happening...

..... I mean it's not like the Blade Runner universe is too small to explore further... and by not bringing back any original characters... it might not feel like some George Lucas abomination.

The only thing that's feel odd to me.. is that they'll have to try to bring back the dystopian 2019 Los Angeles which looked more Asian/Hong Kong-influenced. That's less than 10 years away and I don't think LA looks like that...

Normaly this is the kind of news I would take with a sigh and think "it might not suck". But this is Ridley Scott!

Ridley Scott is a septuagenarian, isn't he? I hope the shoot for this one is not as hellish as his shoot for the first one was, otherwise he'd probably die.

First the Alien prequel, now this. I am conflicted.
On the one hand, Ridley Scott is involved, but it is a sequel to one of the most influential SF films of all time. Perhaps after I watch Prometheus I will have a more developed opinion on the matter.

i love blade runner. for me, one of the best SIFIs ever made. got my self the collectors edition with 5 version of the movie and some other goodies.
good ot hear that the sequel is made by the same director and does not follow with the same characters.
i will keep an eye on it.

There are seven different versions [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Versions_of_Blade_Runner] of Blade Runner. You can safely ignore all but the "Final Cut".

Am trying to suppress my premature-ejaculation. Its such a good thing that Philip wrote a sequel, right ;? Nevertheless, sounds like a marriage made in heaven, particularly gien the fact that Ridley is now pretty ancient and soesn't need the cash. I'm hoping for a labour of love, and my optimsim will only be adulterated when I see botoxed androids in the promotional vids.

Ah excellent, all those wretched 'sequel' books can now be consigned to realm of Fan Fiction where they belong

I hate to be a buzzkill here, but when was the last time Ridley Scott made a truly good movie?

He's still a competent director, but he simply doesn't have the same mojo he used to with Alien and Blade Runner.

Also, expect the grimey grit of the original movie to be replaced by sterile CGI.

You haven't seen The Hitcher, have you? Or Flesh and Blood?

Rutger Hauer getting cast would be nice, as it's always nice to hear your fellow countrymen become famous, such as actress Carice van Houten.
You do remember that character died, right?
Yes but he got a bit older since then, so could play like some old man secondary character (or maybe just has some random hobo on the street, just to have him in the movie for old time sake and has a pun =p). without it seeming to be the same guy, other then the voice.
