When my little sister watches the shit they produce nowadays, it makes me sad.

No one will ever know the joy of shows like Megas XLR, Courage the cowardly dog, the original Thunder cats etc.

Also that Rocko's modern life vid just creeped me out something fierce. O.O

Courage the Cowardly Dog terrified me as a child. I'd freak out and leave the room every time is was on.

I recently watched Nostalgia Critic's Disneycember series and OH my God the memories that came flooding back because of movies I was way too young to remember.

Like it suddenly came rushing back that I thought most of sleeping beauty was boring. How I thought it was funny that Snow White and the prince got married without knowing each other. How much fun I had watching Winnie the Pooh and how freaked out I was at the pink elephants in Dumbo.

Made me wish I could watch them all again.

Ed is systematically abused by both Sarah and her mother, which probably doesn't get better when you consider how... Special he is at times. His dad evidently isn't very much present anymore, coming home and crashing in front of the TV each evening. When Ed is grounded, they also dismantle the staircase to his basement room and fit the door with a heavy duty bolt. Their marriage is going down the plug, their son is mentally challenged and their daughter is a little tyrant. How long will the facade of wholesome suburban life last?

Edd is unseen and unheard by his parents, who only acts in his life through left post-it notes, detailing his daily chores and tasks. He is also pushed pretty hard through school, no doubt "destined" for greater education, wether he like it or not.

Another theory exist on the matter, as well...

Eddy, in turn, long lived in fear and pain beneath his older brother's thumb and uncaring parents. Eddy could never truly get past what his brother did to him, almost having a stroke of Stockholm Syndrome to how he remade the memory of his tyrant brother into a kind, cool guy who looked out for and respected his little bro. There is much boiling and churning beneath that suave, scheeming facade he has erected for himself, which he can't yet find the courage to challenge.

Rolf and his family fled from the bloody civil wars of the Balkans, being granted asylum and citizenship in the United States, eventually settling in Peach Creek. Unable to cope with their flight, Rolf still to this day attempts to live the life that his ancestors had done before him, before his land and heritage were cruelly snatched away, growing crops and raising cattle on the small, suburban back yard. He is a son of a shepheard with no herd to lead.

His often mentioned nanna, supposed to be living in the Rolf household but never seen, didn't set foot outside their homeland, killed in the civil war.

...This is rather fun in some horrible, horrible way. Forgive me, Edboys...

This came up tonight:

One is an enjoyable person and another is a desperate annoying asshole.

Can you figure it out?
They're both douchebags.

I'm assuming you did not grow up with the show...
I did. Dag and Norbit were jerks. It was a pretty terrible show, honestly, as was Catdog, Rocket Power, The Wild Thonberrys... Really all of the nicktoons they started adding in the early 2000s, after the originals got cancelled and/or turned into franchise zombies.
I liked it....so did many others.....

At least give it credit for not being 90% of the trash that is on today.
For not being 90% of the crap that was on in about 2008, maybe, but I'll take Cartoon Network's current lineup over pretty much anything that was on Nickelodeon at the time. Nickelodeon had kind of an awkward phase there, which got slightly better when Fairly Oddparents and Jimmy Neutron came out, and then got bad again a few years later.

Edit: Come to think of it, Spongebob's release may be a better marker for the point where they left that awkward phase. Basically from the time the original crop of Nicktoons was cancelled to the time Spongebob Squarepants came out, Nickelodeon was kind of fumbling around trying to find its footing. They also cancelled all of the good live action shows they had in the early 90's around the same time. It was a pretty big upheaval, it took them a while to find their footing on the new focus for the network, and it never did get quite as good as it was in the 90's.
Finally, somebody who knows TV.(I didn't mind any of those shows, though. But you're right about them not being superior to new stuff)

Brave Little Toaster. I was in college and a friend found it on DVD. A bunch of us who had seen it as kids watched it and all realized how totally fucking disturbing that movie was. If you enjoyed it as a child, I shit you not, DO NOT watch it ever again. All your happy memories will fade into horrific realizations.

You have been warned.

You don't believe me. I can hear you thinking "oh, it can't be that bad." Don't do it.

...

I'll just wait here.

There was an episode of Slappy the Squirrel I watched when I was younger, and a certain joke was put in there that, when I look back at it, I wonder how the hell it got past the censors.

If you watch it, you'll know the moment that I'm talking about.

Starts at 3:20...and hide the kids.

Like the junkyard song? Or the post-traumatic stress disorder Air Conditioner? Or the Clown Dream?

Yeah, I'm convinced that one of my friends is completely off her rocker because she doesn't think there's anything creepy about that movie.

Yeah, that was, like, half of the jokes in Animaniacs.

Heck, it has its own page on TVTropes just for all the jokes that they got past the censors.

GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!! TVTROPES BECOMES AN INESCAPABLE BLACK HOLE ONCE YOU STAY ON FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES!

But, wow, that video. I knew about a lot of the adult humor slipped into that show (which I have always loved since its creation), but I somehow missed that one...

Because that freaked me out as a kid.
DOOOOOOOOD I know how you feel. I still watched the shit out of that VCR tape, though--probably one of my favorites.

Know what freaked me out as a kid? Brave Little Toaster. That bit with the flaming fireman clown thing where it gets all up in the camera and says "RUN." had me running from the room every time.

Now when I watch it, I notice all the horrible metaphors for the awful sides of humanity.

Or the slightly appliancorotic relationship between the toaster and blanket. *Shudder* When we watched it in college we had one friend who was just behind the age curve and hadn't seen it during her childhood. She spent most of the movie going "Why would anyone subject their children to this?"

None of us could give her a good reason. So, yeah, not knowing much else about your friend, I agree. Totally of her rocker.

Well, in the animated version of Batman, I recall when his parents got shot, it just showed the popcorn dropping. I always thought they got turned into popcorn until I realized that they died.
I don't even know if I saw it as a kid, but the episode "Over The Edge" had me almost weeping yesterday. There's a scene near the beginning that is just heartbreaking.
Watching that episode right now, You sir have made my night.

also Nightwing rocking a killer mullet.

I found out about that particular episode from this podcast: http://smodcast.com/episodes/fat-man-on-batman/
It's Kevin Smith interviewing Paul Dini for about an hour and a half. There's a lot of solo Smith promotion stuff to skip through at the beginning, but the rest is fascinating. I immediately had to buy Volume 4 from Amazon (only $15). I'm holding off on 2 and 3 because according to bestbuy.com, they're getting rereleased with a Dark Knight Rises coupon. (It's been so long since I bought Volume 1, which came with a movie ticket coupon for Catwoman.)

I think it's a great little film, but it just creeps me out a little when the cobra talks. It scared the hell out of me when I first watched it, I was like 6 at the time, but I lost my copy of it so I can't watch it anymore. :(

I love the Brave Little Toaster! That part made me jump too and the bit where the gang is in the office and all the appliances are singing that creepy song to them and then go back to normal. That was weird.
